Tourism is a potential economic sector that contributes to more sustainable economic growth. Not only focusing on economic growth, tourism has also been proven in improving livelihoods as well as increasing benefits for local communities. Tourism can however be a field of rivalry or tension in the society. This article aims to analyse rivalry and clash happen among tourism actors and other elements of the society in Kinahrejo, also with government, which is caused by the growth of tourism in Kinahrejo. Emerging dark tourism in Kinahrejo has stimulated the growth of relevant businesses. However, the growth of tourism has also led to competition and friction in the management of local resources. This study looks at three forms of friction that occur in the management of Kinahrejo tourism assets. First, friction between the tourism actors in Kinahrejo caused by the desire to control the tourism resources. Second, friction between tourism business and stone sand mining business, caused by the lucrative offer of income. Third, friction with the government related to the relocation policy of the people of kinahrejo to a safer place and avoid the eruption of Mount Merapi. Completion of friction is done by optimizing the role of the community association in facilitating relationships between the various groups involved in tensions.

Abstract

In recent years Pamsimas (Penyediaan Air Minum dan Sanitasi Berbasis Masyarakat / Community-Based Water Supply and Sanitation) program has been promoted with a view to respond to the challenge of water shortages and sanitation in rural areas of Indonesia. Improved drinking water and sanitation facilities are presumed to enhance access to water resources and improve hygiene. In the meantime, the delegation of authority from the central to local governments in providing for people’s basic needs (including water supply) became a condition of participation in the program. This paper presents the results of a case study of Pamsimas program as it was implemented in Tajuk Village, Semarang Regency. This paper is an extention of the previous study on the dynamic of water management in decentralization era. This update paper uses political economic and power analysis to understand farmers’ decision in responding to the program. It is found that Pamsimas changed a set of institutional rules governing the use of water resources that are the adoption of water pricing mechanism and the establisment of a new collective choice body. It is argued that farmers’ decisions to implement Pamsimas is not because of the hygienic practices and the importance of participation as narrated by the policy makers, but is entirely centered in the benefits of redistribution.

Abstract

There is a Dayak tribe in the Meratus mountains, precisely in the village of Loksado, which is more tribe named as the Meratus Dayak although there are also people who call it the Dayak Bukit. Socially and religiously, this Dayak Meratus community is under heavy pressure from various parties. This pressure was very visible especially among Christian Dayak Meratus people. But in reality, they are able to survive and even develop. That means there is something that causes them to be able to survive and develop. This is then referred to as resilience. By using the method of observation and interviews, the results of the research show that there are several rituals that become their routine agenda, especially those related to farming processions. Balian roles (priests) become central to the rituals that are followed by almost all villagers. Collective awareness that produces collective morality so that it becomes spiritual capital for this community has played a linear role so that they are able to face various challenges in their lives. This becomes very strong when there is divine intervention in it.
