Abstract

Digital transformation in the health sector has accelerated the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic and professional environments. However, concerns regarding ethical implications, academic integrity, and digital health literacy persist among health sciences students. This study aimed to assess the baseline levels of AI utilization, perceived usefulness, and ethical awareness among students in a public health faculty, as the foundation for implementing a capacity-building workshop on responsible AI use. A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted involving 181 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Andalas, who completed a structured online questionnaire prior to the workshop. Data were analyzed descriptively using frequency distributions and percentages to identify patterns of AI usage and ethical concerns. Results showed that 94.5% of respondents actively used generative AI tools, primarily for academic tasks such as searching for scientific references and completing assignments. Despite high adoption, 44.2% reported moderate concerns related to plagiarism, algorithmic bias, and data privacy. Students predominantly obtained AI-related knowledge from social media platforms rather than formal learning sources. These findings indicate a substantial digital utilization gap, particularly in ethical and critical literacy dimensions, highlighting the need for structured educational interventions. Integrating AI literacy, emphasizing ethical responsibility and critical evaluation into the curriculum of health sciences education is recommended to prepare future health professionals for equitable and trustworthy digital health transformation.

Abstract

Childhood tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health concern in Indonesia, where low family awareness and limited treatment support contribute to continued transmission. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a family-centered digital health education intervention in improving literacy regarding childhood TB at the primary care level. A quasi-experimental one-group pre–post test design was conducted among 15 families with confirmed or suspected childhood TB in Pisang Sub-District, Pauh Community Health Center, Padang City. The intervention consisted of door-to-door health education supported by digital media—an animated video and an electronic leaflet, aligned with national childhood TB guidelines. Knowledge outcomes were measured using a validated 20-item questionnaire administered before and after the intervention, and data were analyzed using a paired t-test with a 95% confidence level. Results indicated a substantial improvement in family literacy following the intervention, with mean knowledge scores increasing from 8.70 (SD=1.83) to 14.85 (SD=1.52) (p<0.001). Participants demonstrated better understanding of symptom recognition, household infection prevention, and adherence support roles during treatment. The use of digital media enhanced accessibility and reinforced knowledge retention, confirming its suitability as a family-centered health promotion method. In conclusion, integrating digital health education into home-based interventions effectively strengthens family literacy related to childhood TB and supports national TB control efforts. Broader implementation is recommended through linkage with routine community health services such as posyandu, alongside continuous monitoring of behavioral outcomes to sustain long-term impact.

Abstract

Adolescents are vulnerable to nutrition-related problems due to unhealthy eating patterns and limited nutrition literacy. Strengthening nutrition knowledge through engaging, interactive, and participatory approaches is essential to support healthier decision-making. This community service program aimed to improve junior high school students’ understanding of balanced nutrition through a participatory education model integrating creative media and interactive games. The intervention was conducted at junior high school 14 Padang in September 2025 involving 57 ninth-grade students. Educational activities included a structured presentation, visual materials such as posters and leaflets, and interactive nutrition games based on the “Tumpeng Gizi Seimbang” and “Isi Piringku” concepts. Knowledge assessment used pre-test and post-test questionnaires, and data were analyzed using paired sample t-test. Results showed a significant improvement in students’ knowledge (p = 0.001), with the proportion categorized as having high knowledge increasing from 75.4% to 87.7%. These findings highlight the effectiveness of combining participatory strategies with creative media and interactive activities in enhancing adolescents’ understanding of balanced nutrition. The implications of this program indicate that, when implemented consistently and supported by the school environment, participatory approaches may contribute to more sustained improvements in students’ nutrition-related awareness. Schools are encouraged to incorporate interactive media in health education and conduct periodic follow-up activities to maintain knowledge retention.

Abstract

Sugar-Sweetened Beverages (SSBs) are a major contributor to the rising incidence of diabetes among children due to their high added sugar content and frequent consumption. The Indonesia Health Survey (2023) reported that 53% of children aged 5–9 years consume sweetened beverages at least once daily. A 250 ml serving of SSB can contain more than six teaspoons of sugar, surpassing the Ministry of Health’s recommended daily limit of 50 grams. Limited regulatory control, low prices, and intensive advertising further promote high SSB intake. To address this issue, SDN 14 Pauh, located in Pauh District, an area with relatively high diabetes prevalence in Padang City was selected as the site for a community education program aimed at enhancing children’s understanding of SSB-related health risks. The program employed a combination of pre-test assessments, interactive lectures, question-and-answer sessions, and post-test evaluations. Educational materials were delivered through PowerPoint presentations designed to match the comprehension level of primary school students. The intervention produced a marked improvement in students’ knowledge regarding the dangers of SSB consumption. The average score increased from 64.56 in the pre-test to 89.09 in the post-test, representing a 38% improvement in understanding. The educational intervention was effective in increasing awareness among primary school students about the health risks of consuming SSBs. Continued implementation of similar educational programs is recommended to foster long-term awareness and promote healthier beverage choices from an early age.

Abstract

Low public awareness of routine health monitoring and knowledge of proper medication use remains a significant problem, leading to increased adverse drug reactions and a decline in health status. Furthermore, a lack of health literacy and high self-medication practices also increase the risk of inappropriate medication use. To address this need, this activity combines health screening and medication education as an integrative approach to improving public health awareness and drug literacy. This study used a quasi-experimental one-group pre-posttest design and was conducted on 24 October 2025, at SDN 07 Ganting, East Padang Panjang, involving 34 participants. Activities included blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid screenings; medical consultations; and medication education and counseling. The majority of participants were women (80%), with a dominant age range of 41–59 years (50%). Mean blood pressure was 129.1 ± 25.0/86.26 ± 13.60 mmHg, glucose 132.41 ± 74.5 mg/dL, cholesterol 214.7 ± 33.8 mg/dL, and uric acid 5.6 ± 1.8 mg/dL, indicating the presence of risk factors requiring monitoring. Knowledge levels were in the good category at both pre-test (90%) and post-test (93.3%), with no significant difference (p = 0.541). This activity contributed to strengthening drug literacy through direct education linked to screening findings, enabling participants to understand their personal health risks. This integrated screening-education approach shows potential as a more effective community intervention model in increasing public knowledge and awareness of health and the safe use of drugs.

Abstract

Padang Timur District has the second-highest number of cases of child violence in Padang City, with 50% occurring in elementary school students and below. This program aims to improve students' knowledge about bullying prevention at SDIT Cendikia Andalas, one of the elementary schools in Padang Timur District. This activity uses a pre-experimental method with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The target of this activity is 23 fifth-grade students. The use of engaging media, such as the Snakes and Ladders game, to educate elementary school-aged children about bullying is one effective way to improve their knowledge. Evaluation of student knowledge is conducted using pretest and posttest questionnaires, which are then analyzed using a paired t-test. The results of the activity show that students' knowledge increased after playing the Snakes and Ladders game, as indicated by an increase in the average score from 17.00 (pretest) to 19.52 (posttest) with a p-value of 0.000. These findings suggest that the game is effective in enhancing students' understanding of various forms of bullying and strategies for prevention. Using the Snakes and Ladders game as a teaching tool is a good way to teach elementary school children how to prevent bullying. As an applied recommendation, this media can be used by teachers and schools as an engaging learning tool to strengthen bullying prevention efforts in the classroom.

Abstract

Larasati Art Studio in Purbalingga represents a cultural community with significant potential in performing arts and local heritage preservation. However, the studio faces challenges in leveraging literacy-related competencies, particularly in Javanese script, for cultural product development and digital marketing. This gap limits the studio’s ability to strengthen its image as a center for Javanese cultural preservation at the Banyumas Regency level. This study aims to enhance the studio’s capacity in Javanese script literacy and cultural product creation. A community service program was conducted involving 45 participants, utilizing lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice to produce handicrafts incorporating Javanese script. Pre- and post-training evaluations were administered to assess literacy improvement and skill acquisition. The results indicate a significant increase in participants’ literacy and product-making abilities, with the average pre-training score of 61.47% improving to a post-training score of 84.33%. Participants successfully produced 50 cultural handicraft items integrating Javanese script, which were subsequently documented and promoted through digital platforms. These outcomes demonstrate that structured literacy training and practical product development can effectively strengthen the studio’s public image and enhance its role in cultural preservation. In conclusion, the program successfully improved Javanese script literacy, facilitated cultural product creation, and reinforced Larasati Art Studio’s function as an inheritor, preserver, and developer of local Javanese culture. The study recommends continued literacy-based interventions to sustain cultural engagement and community empowerment.
