Abstract

This activity aimed to improve the quality of life and public health post-disaster through an integrated approach in health and disaster management. The service was conducted from September 21 to November 13, 2024, using methods of included socialization, simulations, and education using pre-test and post-test approaches to measure intervention effectiveness. Activities were carried out in the form of disaster mitigation counseling for elementary school students involving 200 students, maggot-based waste management training with more 30 participants, healthy lifestyle education for the elderly through the GERMAS program, and nutrition education for parents to prevent stunting with more than 20 participants. The results showed an increase in community understanding of disaster mitigation, with the average pre-test score rising from 58,4 to 82,7 in the post-test. The community demonstrated a better understanding of the importance of waste management to prevent environmental pollution, awareness of early hypertension detection, and fulfillment of balanced nutrition to prevent stunting. Active participation in simulations, Q&A sessions, and discussions serves as indicators of the activity success. It can be concluded that this community service program successfully enhanced the knowledge and awareness of the Pandai Sikek community regarding health and disaster preparedness. The sustainability of this program requires support through collaboration with local governments, educational institutions, and community groups to expand its positive impact. It is recommended to actively involve younger generations and strengthen implementation monitoring to optimize and sustain the program's outcomes.

Abstract

In Nagari Sako Pasia Talang, Sungai Pagu District, South Solok Regency, the scarcity of accessible animal protein sources coupled with limited employment opportunities poses a considerable socio-economic challenge. This programme was designed to enhance household incomes and fortify food security through the structured development of broiler poultry farming. The implementation strategy encompassed community outreach via structured training sessions and hands-on workshops, alongside expert consultations facilitated by academics from Andalas University. An integrated educational and participatory approach was employed, incorporating technical training in broiler husbandry, the construction of standardized poultry housing, feed formulation utilizing locally available ingredients, livestock health management, and farm business financial analysis. Tangible support was also provided in the form of poultry housing units, day-old chicks (DOC), feed supplies, and essential farming equipment. The intervention yielded marked improvements in both the knowledge base and practical skills of participating community members, enabling the adoption of efficient, locally adaptive broiler farming techniques. A pilot, collectively managed poultry enterprise was successfully established, producing 970 market-ready broilers from an initial stock of 1,020 DOC, while achieving a competitive feed conversion ratio (FCR). Financial analysis revealed a potential net profit of IDR 9,131,160 per 35-day production cycle, underscoring the venture’s economic viability. Beyond income generation, the programme broadened community access to affordable and nutritious animal protein, and catalyzed the emergence of new, livestock-based entrepreneurial models. With its demonstrable success, the initiative holds significant potential for replication as a sustainable, village-centered strategy for economic resilience and food security.

Abstract

Low public literacy regarding the utilization of medicinal plants as functional foods remains a challenge, particularly in rural areas. In fact, Curcuma xanthorrhiza (temulawak) and Zingiber officinale (ginger) contain bioactive compounds such as curcumin, gingerol, and shogaol, which have been proven to exert anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunostimulant effects. This community service program aimed to improve public knowledge and skills in processing these two herbs into functional gummy candies that are more practical, palatable, and economically valuable. The program was conducted in May 2025 in Nagari Sipinang, Agam Regency, involving 40 participants ranging from productive-age adults to the elderly. A participatory approach was applied, including pre-test, interactive lectures, group discussions, hands-on gummy preparation, quizzes, post-test, and mentoring. Evaluation instruments consisted of knowledge questionnaires, interactive quizzes, and skill observations. Success indicators included increased health literacy, practical skills, and interest in product development. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge, from 40% before the intervention to 85% afterward. More than 80% of participants were able to explain the health benefits of temulawak and ginger, and actively engaged in the gummy preparation process. Enthusiasm was also reflected in the high participation rate during discussions and quizzes, along with the expressed interest in developing gummy products as potential local businesses. In conclusion, an integrated educational program combined with practical training effectively enhanced community health literacy and skills. The innovation of temulawak–ginger gummy not only supports immune health but also offers potential economic opportunities through locally based functional food products.

Abstract

Adolescent smoking behavior remains a significant public health issue, contributing to the increased risk of non-communicable diseases and reduced quality of life. Schools play a strategic role as a locus for educational interventions in smoking prevention. This community service activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and awareness of students at SIMA Junior High School, Padang, regarding the dangers of smoking through a school-based education program. The method employed was a participatory community-based approach involving 30 students. The program consisted of socialization, interactive counseling, and the distribution of educational media in the form of an educational video. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test to measure changes in students’ knowledge before and after the intervention. The results showed an increase in the mean knowledge score from 71.99 in the pre-test to 76.0 in the post-test. A paired t-test yielded p=0.002 (<0.05), indicating a statistically significant improvement in students’ knowledge about the dangers of smoking after the intervention. Although the distribution of the “high knowledge” category slightly decreased, the overall increase in mean scores suggests that the educational program effectively strengthened students’ understanding. In conclusion, the school-based educational program proved effective in improving students’ knowledge about the dangers of smoking. Program sustainability requires periodic updating of educational materials and active collaboration among schools, teachers, parents, and the community. Such efforts are expected to prevent the emergence of novice smokers and support the establishment of a healthy, smoke-free school environment.

Abstract

Effective logistics management in the maintenance and storage of medical equipment plays an important role in ensuring patient safety and supporting service efficiency at community health centers (Puskesmas). However, several Puskesmas in Solok Regency still face challenges such as suboptimal logistics management, limited storage facilities, and inadequate monitoring and evaluation processes. These issues increase the risk of equipment damage, service disruption, and occupational safety hazards for both medical staff and patients. This community service program aimed to strengthen the logistics management capacity of Puskesmas through socialization and training on the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) principles and integrated logistics management. The methods included coordination with the Solok District Health Office, training for Puskesmas staff, mentoring in logistics recording, and the provision of educational media such as banners and leaflets. The results showed an improvement in participants’ understanding of logistics management and OHS principles, with more than 80% of participants able to apply proper storage systems and conduct periodic monitoring of medical equipment. In addition, internal coordination in the procurement and distribution of medical equipment at partner Puskesmas improved significantly. This program contributed to enhancing safety, availability, and the quality of health services at Puskesmas, and is expected to serve as an initial step toward developing a sustainable logistics management system in Solok Regency.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of Indonesia’s economy, yet many traditional businesses lack adequate financial literacy, particularly regarding the calculation of the Break Even Point (BEP), which is essential for determining the breakeven level and profit planning. This community service program aims to improve BEP understanding among MSME actors of Maco Adaik in Nagari Sungayang. The program was implemented from July to September 2025 at the Sungayang Village Hall using a participatory approach through interactive lectures, simulations, and group discussions based on real business data. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test with Likert-scale questionnaires to measure participants’ comprehension. The training results showed a significant improvement, with 70% of participants able to calculate BEP independently after the program. Analysis of Maco Adaik business data indicated that breakeven is achieved at 30 packages per month with a selling price of IDR 18,100, fixed costs of IDR 300,000, and variable costs of IDR 8,083 per unit. This understanding encouraged participants to develop more structured pricing and production strategies and raised awareness of cost recording. Social impact was evident through active community involvement and strengthened entrepreneurial capacity based on local potential. This program effectively enhanced MSME financial literacy and is expected to contribute to business sustainability. For further development, digital-based financial recording training and collaboration with BUMNag are recommended to strengthen business institutions and replicate the program in other villages.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a strategic role in supporting national economic growth; however, many business actors still face challenges related to legality, marketing, and financial management, which affect their competitiveness. One MSME experiencing such issues is “Oh My Sharga Bread” steamed bread. This community service program aims to strengthen business legality, improve digital marketing strategies, and organize financial reporting based on the Micro, Small, and Medium Entity Accounting Standards (SAK EMKM). The mentoring activities included problem identification, technical guidance, facilitation of Business Identification Number (NIB) registration and halal certification, training in financial recording using the SIAPIK application, digital marketing assistance, and redesigning product packaging and logos. The results showed significant achievements: business legality was obtained, financial reports became more structured, and digital marketing expanded market reach. Sales turnover increased by 30%, the number of customers grew by 50 people, and social media engagement rose by 45%. The new packaging and logo design enhanced product image and consumer appeal. The impact of this program goes beyond solving technical problems; it also builds the partner’s capacity to compete in broader and sustainable markets. This activity contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 8 on decent work and economic growth. Therefore, this mentoring program effectively improves MSME competitiveness and serves as a participatory empowerment model that can be replicated.

Abstract

This educational activity aims to increase mothers' knowledge about nutritious and healthy food by optimizing interpersonal communication in Puskesmas Dadok Tunggul Hitam, Padang City. The activity design is a pre-post intervention without a control group, implemented in late August and early September 2025, targeting 15 mothers. The educational activity, supported by leaflets, includes initial activities in the form of a pre-test, individual education and counseling, discussions, and ends with a post-test. The partner for this activity is Puskesmas Dadok Tunggul Hitam, which plays a role in providing licensing support and data provision. The characteristics of mothers of toddlers are that more than 50% of mothers are aged 30-39 years, have a high school education, and are housewives. The results of the education show an increase in mothers' knowledge after being given individual counseling. The average pre-test score of mothers of toddlers was 7.4 ± 1.183 and increased to 9.4 ± 0.737 in the post-test, with a p-value of 0.0001 (p < 0.05). This indicates that nutrition education through interpersonal communication, which has not been widely used in educational activities, and assisted by leaflets, is effective in increasing mothers' knowledge about nutritious and healthy foods. This increase in knowledge is expected to be implemented in family food consumption behaviors towards a more balanced and healthy nutrition in everyday life, thereby contributing to improving the nutritional status and health of the community.

Abstract

Acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) is a serious clinical condition that can be an early sign of polio disease. Since the discovery of a new polio case in Aceh in late 2022, Indonesia has experienced another polio outbreak after being declared polio-free in 2014. Early detection of AFP is critical to ensure no transmission of wild polio cases in the community. AFP case finding in Ophir health center working area of West Pasaman district is low. Therefore, cadre strengthening is needed to improve their capacity to detect and report AFP cases. Through this activity, cadres gained knowledge and practical skills to recognize AFP signs and symptoms, conduct early reporting, and support rapid case follow-up. This activity was conducted in Jorong Pujorahayu in September 2025 involving 20 posyandu cadres. Methods used were pre-test, education through interactive lecture, discussion, reporting simulation, and post-test. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, attitudes, and actions of cadres after the intervention (p<0.05). The average knowledge increased from 3.65 to 5.00, attitude from 4.40 to 5.00, and action from 4.30 to 5.00. Interactive education was effective in building cadre readiness to detect and report AFP cases early. In addition, the activity had positive impacts such as strengthening polio surveillance network and providing educational media. In conclusion, this activity has successfully improved cadre capacity and strengthened community-based reporting system. It is recommended that similar activities be conducted continuously at the PHC level to prevent wild polio transmission in the community.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period that is vulnerable to the emergence of risky behaviors, such as smoking, promiscuity, and lack of health concern. These behaviors can negatively impact adolescent growth and development physically, mentally, and socially. This community service activity aims to increase knowledge and awareness regarding preventing risky behaviors through a health education program for students of SMPN 23, Padang City. The activity methods include preparation and problem identification stages, coordination with partners, and implementation stages, including interactive counseling, group discussions, and distribution of leaflets and promotional banners. The first day of education targeted all students in grades VII and VIII of SMPN 23 Padang. On the second day, education focused on members of the Adolescent Health Cadre (KKR) and the Student Council (OSIS), totaling 27 people. Evaluation was carried out with pre-tests and post-tests to measure the increase in knowledge. The activity results showed a significant increase in the average knowledge score of the cadre students (77.78 to 94.07). In addition, the students showed enthusiasm and active involvement throughout the activity. This educational activity was successfully implemented smoothly and brought about an increase in knowledge among students, KKR cadres, and OSIS. Cadre students understand their role and are expected to be able to serve as peer educators when their peers encounter health issues or risky behavior. Similar activities, involving teachers and parents, need to be implemented continuously to optimize risky behavior prevention.
