Abstract

Pincuran Gadang Farmers Group, a part of the BUMNag Balai Panjang enterprise in Lareh Sago Halaban District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, faced the problem of low sales performance in its Jawarandu goat business due to a conventional marketing approach. Over the past year, the group’s average sales reached only two to three goats per month, mainly relying on word-of-mouth and limited Facebook promotion. This community service program aimed to enhance the group’s income and business competitiveness through the implementation of a hybrid marketing strategy combining conventional and digital promotion methods. The activities included field observation, participatory mentoring, the creation of printed brochures for goat marketing, and the development of an official Instagram account as a digital promotion tool. The results indicated improvements in members’ understanding and skills in managing promotional media, stronger business branding, and increased interaction with potential customers within and beyond the local community. Furthermore, the adoption of digital marketing expanded the group’s market reach and improved consumer trust in local livestock products. The integration of printed and digital promotion proved to be an effective approach to strengthening the economic independence of smallholder livestock farmers while fostering the community’s digital capacity. The sustainability implication of this program lies in the establishment of a sustainable community marketing model that can be replicated by other rural farmer groups to promote inclusive and resilient agribusiness development.

Abstract

This activity aims to strengthen this independence by integrating digital technology solutions into the school's financial management system. The method used was a participatory qualitative approach with four main stages: preparation, implementation, mentoring, and evaluation. This process involved the active participation of the school's administrators. The implemented solution focused on the use of the digital application "Buku Warung" to simplify transaction recording, stock management, and financial reporting. The results showed a significant impact. Before the intervention, 100% of the recording was done manually, incomplete, and prone to errors. After mentoring, the boarding school administrators' understanding of digital and financial literacy improved substantially. Adoption of the application reached 95%, effectively transforming the recording system into a digital and detailed one. The time efficiency of preparing financial reports such as profit and loss and cash flow increased by 75%, enabling administrators to make faster and more accurate business decisions. Despite obstacles such as limited internet access at the site and initial resistance to change, these obstacles were successfully overcome through ongoing education and practical mentoring. The conclusion of this activity was that the combination of technological solutions and practical mentoring proved effective in improving the economic management capacity of Islamic boarding schools. To ensure the program's sustainability, it is recommended that Islamic boarding schools integrate all their business units into a single, integrated system and expand collaboration with various parties for further support.

Abstract

This program aims to increase the elderly's knowledge about TB prevention and control through the “Market TB” (Let's Recognize and Treat TB) outreach activity. The activity was carried out at the Belimbing Community Health Centre’s elderly health post. The method used was a lecture using posters, accompanied by pre-tests and post-tests to measure the increase in knowledge. Interactive discussions were held to reinforce participants' understanding. Educational posters were also displayed in strategic locations to expand the reach of information. The results showed an increase in the average post-test score (8.11) from the pre-test score (5.05). The outreach activities were carried out successfully, as evidenced by the active participation of the target audience and a 3.06-point increase in knowledge scores after the intervention. Posters and participatory outreach methods proved effective in conveying health information to the elderly. The Belimbing Community Health Centre is expected to continue providing regular education on tuberculosis to the elderly using visual approaches and simple language that is easy to understand. In addition, youth posts can be utilized as an educational medium by providing health information that is easily accessible to the community. Posyandu cadres also need to be actively involved as an extension of health workers in disseminating community-based health information, so that education can reach a wider audience and be sustainable.

Abstract

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus continues to rise and has become a global health challenge, including in Indonesia. The low rate of diabetes screening, particularly in rural areas, exacerbates the risk of delayed diagnosis and management of complications. Early detection through regular laboratory examinations is a crucial preventive step to reduce morbidity and mortality. This community service activity aimed to improve knowledge and encourage early detection of diabetes mellitus through laboratory examinations and health education. The intervention was conducted in Jorong Taratak Galundi, under the working area of Alahan Panjang Health Center, involving 25 participants. The methods included random blood glucose (RBG) testing using a glucometer, as well as health education sessions accompanied by pre-tests and post-tests to assess changes in knowledge. The results showed that all participants had RBG levels <200 mg/dl (100%), indicating normal conditions. However, the education sessions had a significant impact on increasing community knowledge, with post-test scores 22.4% higher on average compared to pre-test scores. This finding demonstrates that educational interventions can effectively enhance understanding of risk factors, symptoms, and prevention of diabetes. The activity confirmed that combining simple laboratory screening with health education is effective in raising community awareness of diabetes mellitus. For sustainability, similar programs should be conducted regularly with a broader reach, involving health workers and local cadres, to ensure rural communities have better access to preventive measures and early detection of diabetes.

Abstract

Food vendors play a vital role in ensuring food safety and consumer health, as they are directly involved in food preparation. Therefore, the application of personal hygiene and environmental sanitation is essential. Personal hygiene includes maintaining cleanliness through handwashing, body care, and appropriate attire. Environmental sanitation refers to efforts to create a clean and healthy environment. Adequate knowledge is necessary to influence vendors' attitudes and behaviors in practicing hygienic food handling. This study utilized a total sampling technique, in which the entire population was included as the sample for the research. This community service activity employed educational outreach and door-to-door interviews with 119 food vendors located in Cupak Tangah Sub-district, Padang City. Participant characteristics showed an age range of 18–51 years, with an average age of 26 years, and most respondents had completed senior high school. The intervention covered two topics: personal hygiene and sanitation. Prior to the intervention, only 3.3% of vendors demonstrated adequate knowledge of personal hygiene and 4.4% had knowledge of environmental sanitation. Following the educational intervention, knowledge levels increased significantly, reaching 100%. Education proved effective in significantly increasing food vendors’ knowledge of personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, and food handling practices. Similar interventions are recommended to enhance food safety awareness among small-scale vendors.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which primarily affects the lungs but can also involve other organs such as the kidneys, bones, brain, and lymph nodes. TB remains a significant public health concern in Indonesia, including in Pisang Village, Pauh District, which records one of the highest TB prevalence rates based on data from the Pauh Community Health Center and local government. Poor sanitation conditions and low public awareness are among the major contributing factors to the high number of TB cases in this community. This community engagement activity aimed to enhance public understanding and awareness of TB through the emotional demonstration (emo-demo) approach. This interactive method was used to effectively communicate key health messages regarding the causes, transmission mechanisms, and preventive measures of TB, while also highlighting the importance of environmental sanitation and the implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors. The results of this activity demonstrated a noticeable improvement in community knowledge and awareness related to TB symptoms, causes, transmission routes, and prevention strategies. Participants showed increased interest and understanding, indicating positive behavioral changes and greater willingness to adopt preventive practices. Therefore, the emo-demo approach proved to be an effective educational strategy for strengthening TB prevention and control efforts at the community level.

Abstract

Nutritional status is an important indicator that determines the quality of health and development of school-age children. Adequate nutrition supports children's physical growth and cognitive abilities, and contributes to academic achievement. This community service activity aims to analyze the nutritional status of Bustanul Ulum Elementary School students by measuring height, weight, and Body Mass Index (BMI). The method used is quantitative descriptive with a sample of 150 students from grades 1 to 6. Measurements were carried out using standard and calibrated measuring instruments, while BMI was calculated using the formula body weight (kg) divided by the square of height (m²). The results showed that 75% of students had normal nutritional status, 10% were underweight and stunted, and 15% were overweight and obese. Factors that influence nutritional status include an unbalanced diet, lack of physical activity, and family socio-economic background. Children from families who have access to healthy food and good nutrition education tend to have better nutritional status. Based on these results, a comprehensive intervention program is needed in the form of nutrition education for students and parents, provision of healthy food at school, and promotion of regular physical activity. Collaboration between schools, health workers, and parents is essential to create an environment that supports optimal and sustainable child growth and development.

Abstract

Mental health disorders among Generation Z students are increasing significantly due to intense academic and social pressures, leading to stress, anxiety, and social isolation. This phenomenon is exacerbated by low mental health literacy and high social stigma, which hinder students from seeking professional help. This community service program aimed to improve the literacy, awareness, and early detection skills for mental health issues among students at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Nusa Cendana University (Undana), through a participatory-educational approach. This program utilized an experiential learning method involving 120 FISIP Undana students. The intervention consisted of a series of sessions including presentations, demonstrations of relaxation techniques, interactive discussions, and the introduction of the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-29) as an early detection tool. The program's effectiveness was evaluated using pre-test and post-test questionnaires to measure changes in participants' understanding and readiness. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in understanding across all measured aspects. On average, participant understanding improved by 43–47% across five key indicators, which included knowledge of mental disorder symptoms, stress management skills, and readiness to implement mental health strategies. The highest improvements were recorded in readiness to implement mental health strategies (47%) and stress management skills (45%). Based on these findings, the educational program was proven effective in enhancing students' awareness and preparedness to maintain their mental health. This success not only signifies improved literacy but also fosters a more empathetic, stigma-free campus culture, reinforcing the importance of institutional support for students' psychological well-being

Abstract

The use of medicines is common among adults; however, for children, medication is often considered unfamiliar because their knowledge of the benefits and risks of medicines remains limited. Therefore, early education about medicines is essential to build proper awareness and encourage children to become agents of change in promoting the rational use of medicines within their families and communities. This community service activity aimed to improve medication literacy and awareness of rational medicine use among elementary school students through the Correct Medicines Learning Model (CBOB). The program was implemented in six stages: (1) socialization with partners, including teachers, students, and parents; (2) training of junior pharmacists for fifth-grade students; (3) application of science and technology through the CBOB model; (4) post-activity mentoring; (5) evaluation; and (6) sustainability. The evaluation phase specifically used pre-tests and post-tests to assess students’ knowledge, perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors. The results showed an increase in knowledge scores from 53.5 to 63.4, perceptions from 37.7 to 49.4, and attitudes from 67.9 to 71.6, while behavior remained stable at 69.3. In addition, the Little Pharmacist Community, School Medicinal Plants (TOS), and Apotekids Corner were established as tangible outputs of the program. In conclusion, the CBOB model effectively enhanced students’ understanding and awareness of rational medicine use and has the potential to be developed as a sustainable, school-based medicine education model.

Abstract

The challenge of digitalization is a major obstacle for MSMEs in South Solok Regency in expanding their market reach and building competitiveness. This community service program aims to strengthen the competitiveness of Nagi Sipadeh, a red ginger drink producer in Sangir District, through the use of simple, easily accessible digital technology. A participatory approach was applied in the implementation of the program, which consisted of several stages: observation and interviews to identify business needs, designing a promotional website based on Google Sites as a digital storefront and product information center, content management training to enable business owners to update information independently, and evaluating website utilization to measure the impact on digital visibility. The program results showed a 57% increase in online interactions through Google Reviews and an expansion of promotional reach after the website was integrated with social media. The website also strengthened business owners' digital literacy and enhanced their ability to manage online communication channels with consumers. Furthermore, the website provided an initial foundation for the development of broader digital marketing and promotional features. This program has proven effective in increasing business exposure, expanding market networks, and encouraging MSMEs' digital independence by utilizing simple technology. Continued efforts such as increasing digital marketing capacity and strengthening partnership networks will support more competitive business growth.
