Abstract

This study aimed to identify the type of reasoning and the level of prospective physics teacher students’ logical thinking ability. This type of research was a field study with a quantitative descriptive method. The test was the technique used in collecting data of this study. The instrument used in this study was the standard test like Test of Logical Thinking (TOLT). This test consists of 10 questions that measured five types of reasoning, namely proportional reasoning, variable control, probabilistic reasoning, correlation reasoning, and combination reasoning. The level of logical thinking ability was distinguished into concrete, transitional, and formal thinking operational. The sample of this study was students of physics teacher candidates at the first-year level, totaling 30 students.  All of data was analyzed by quantitative descriptive. In general, students tend to the type of proportional reasoning and controlling variables and less on probabilistic reasoning. Based on the level of logical thinking ability, the results showed that the percentage of 30 students who were in the concrete, transitional, and formal categories, respectively, were 30%, 30%, and 60%. This data becomes the basis for consideration in the development of learning models and learning assessments used in lectures, especially in Department of Physics Education in one of the University in Makassar city, so that they are able to contribute to the development of students' level of logical thinking skills as a provision for the next life.

Abstract

Pentingnya siswa memiliki keterampilan abad 21 dan menguasai dasar-dasar sains, rekayasa, teknologi, dan matematika dapat dibelajarkan melalui pendidikan STEM. Permasalahan terkait waktu pembelajaran yang terbatas untuk mata pelajaran Sains di sekolah dapat diselesaikan salah satunya dengan penggunaan modul.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menghasilkan modul berbasis STEM yang layak untuk siswa SMP. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian dan pengembangan atau Research and Development (R&D). Prosedur penelitian ini mengadapatasi model pengembangan 4D menurut Thiaragaraja. Teknik sampling yang digunakan untuk one to one evaluation dan small group evaluation adalah teknik sampling purposive. Jumlah siswa untuk one to one evaluation berjumlah 10 orang dan untuk small group evaluation berjumlah 66 orang. Modul berbasis STEM untuk siswa SMP divalidasi oleh ahli konten, dan ahli bahasa. Ahli konten mengukur kebenaran dan kejelasan isi materi serta desain modulnya. Hasil dari validasi konten diperoleh nilai 0,93 dengan kategori sangat tinggi. Adapun ahli bahasa mengukur aspek kejelasan informasi, kesesuaian dengan kaidah Bahasa Indonesia dan penggunaan bahasa secara efektif dan efisien. Hasil dari validasi bahasa diperoleh nilai 1,00 dengan kategori sangat tinggi. Pengukuran kevalidan modul ini juga diukur menggunakan instrumen kuesioner keterbacaan dan kepraktisan yang diberikan kepada siswa. Analisis dari hasil kuesioner keterbacaan oleh siswa diperoleh nilai 87% dengan kategori sangat kuat, dan kuesioner kepraktisan diperoleh nilai 80% dengan kategori kuat. Berdasarkan data tersebut modul berbasis STEM untuk siswa SMP dinyatakan layak digunakan.

Abstract

One of the ways to use technology in education is in the assessment process, namely e-assessment. E-assessment is a system designed to make the process more effective and efficient in terms of time, funds and assessment achievements. In this study, an e-assessment has been developed which is oriented towards students understanding. The purpose of this research is to determine the effectiveness of using e-assessment on students understanding. The research method used was a quasi-experimental in the pretest posttest group design. Students understanding data were obtained from a multiple-choice test with 25 questions related to the concept of mechanics. The data obtained were analyzed for the increase with the gain normalization equation. The results obtained indicate that the developed e-assessment model can improve students understanding with the medium improvement category. The increase in students' understanding of concept in the cognitive aspects of C1, C2 and C3 was in the high category of increase and aspects of C4, C5, and C6 increased with the category of moderate improvement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Discovery Learning model on the conceptual understanding of high school students assisted by tracker software on simple harmonic vibration (GHS) material. The method used in this research is quantitative research with a Quasi Experiment design type Posttest Only Control Design. The population in this study were all class X SMA Pembina Palembang which consisted of 2 classes. The sampling technique used saturated sampling because all members of the population were sampled in this study. Class X IPA 1 as an experimental class applied Discovery Learning model assisted by tracker software and class X IPA 2 as a control class applied Discovery Learning model. The data collection technique used a concept understanding essay test instrument as many as 10 questions. The results showed that the mean understanding of the concept of the experimental class students was average = 84.90 and the control class was average= 74.08. The results of the right-side hypothesis test are tcount ≥ ttable, which is 7,567 ≥ 1,653. This means that Ha is accepted. Then the conclusion is that physics learning by applying the Discovery Learning model assisted by tracker software on simple harmonic vibration (GHS) material has an influence on the conceptual understanding of high school students rather than using a learning model without being balanced with learning media.

Abstract

This research is aimed to determine the effect of guided-inquiry learning model using PhET simulation on creativity at SMAN 1 Tanjung of academic year 2019/2020. This research is quasi-experimental with non-equivalent control group design. The population of this research is all student of grade XI SMAN 1 Tanjung of academic year 2019/2020, while the sampling technique used purposive sampling, while the sampling are the student of grade XI MIPA 2 as the experimental group and the student of grade XI MIPA 1 as control group. Creativity data be measured on creativity test which the type test used 7 essay. The research hypothesis was tested using t-test independent. The result of t-test show that tobtained>ttable. It means that there is the effect of guided-inquiry learning model using PhET simulation on creativity at SMAN 1 Tanjung of academic year 2019/2020.

Abstract

Inter-semester courses (KAS) Classes are identical to low grade classes with students whose level of understanding is inadequate. Students in this class usually have a misunderstanding of many concepts or misconceptions. Efforts that can be performed to improve the student’s concepts is the method of conceptual change through unexpected questions, namely questions that most likely have not been thought of by students or the answers have not been thought of before by the student. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of conceptual change learning with unexpected questions to improve understanding of concepts. This research was conducted in the inter-semester course class of 2018-2019 school year which was conducted in July 2019, with students from all study programs at the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education, Teaching and Education Faculty, at A University in Mataram City. The results of this study indicate that this method can significantly improve understanding of the concept. The treatment has successfully increasing the understanding of concept from 26.4% to 62.9%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to see the difficulty level of physics exam questions at SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh in the 2018/2019 academic year. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. Those who will be the subjects of this research are students of class XII MIPA at SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh for the 2018/2019 academic year, who took the trial test determined by 32 students who were selected by lottery based on the list of participants in the trial test. Furthermore, the object of this research is a matter of trying physics for the 2018/2019 academic year originating from the Aceh provincial education office. The data test technique was carried out using documentation data, namely in the form of test questions for physics testing for the 2018/2019 academic year along with the student test scores. The data obtained were analyzed using the difficulty level formula (difficulty). The results of the data analysis showed that of the 40 items tested, only 7.5% of the items were too easy, 37.5% of the items were easy, 32.5% of the items were medium, 17.5% of the items that came were difficult difficult) and 5% of the answer items are too difficult (difficult). This shows that the physics experimental questions have varying levels of difficulty (difficulty).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of physics teaching materials on student learning outcomes. The type of research used is a meta-analysis that analyzes 25 pre-existing national articles starting from 2013-2019. The data analysis technique used is to calculate the effect size for each article. Based on the results of the study, it was found that physics teaching materials had an effect on student learning outcomes. So that it is known that first, the influence of physics teaching materials on student learning outcomes from 25 articles obtained an average effect size of 1.1308 with a very high category. The effect of the two teaching materials based on education level with the highest effect size is at the junior high school level, namely 1,395 with a very high category. The third is based on the highest effect size class level in class VIII, namely 1,395 with a very high category. Fourth, based on the type of teaching materials with the highest effect size, namely 1,418 with a very high category on teaching materials. The fifth effect magnitude based on the highest learning material is found in the material for parabolic motion, circular motion and Newton's law, which is 3.29 with a high effect category. Sixth, based on the unit method, strategy, and model, the highest effect size is 2.19 with the category having a high impact on the student recap strategy.

Abstract

This research was conducted to develop discovery learning-based E-modulees combined with PhET in kinetik gas theory materials with the aim of: 1) producing discovery learning-based E-modulee products in the analysekinetik theory of gassesmaterial subjects for students. (2) knowing the feasibility of discovery learning-based E-modulee products in kinetik gas theory material for students. referring to the R&D (reaserch and development) method of the step of development refers to Thiagarajan (4D) which has been adapted to the purpose of research only until the development stage. The development procedures in this study include define, design, and development. This research resulted in a product in the form of discovery learning based emodules on the subject matter of kinetik gas for students with a decent category. Based on the results of validation by experts, the overall product feasibility percentage is 87.7%, which means that the product falls into very valid criteria. The readability test conducted on 14 students of physics education UM obtained an average reading result of 96.4% of the readability criteria included in the legible category.

Abstract

The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Material Mechanics, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mataram University. The purpose of this research   determined  the effect of the Pack Carburizing  parameters (temperature, soakin  time and carburizer media composition) on the thickness  of calsium carbida layer  (CaC), which is formed on the surface of low carbon steel. The thickness of the calcium carbonate layer affects the surface hardness number  of low carbon steel. This research used low carbon steel  grade SS400 as the specimen. Carburizer media is a mixture of corncob charcoal powder and Pinctada maxima shells  powder (PMSP).  Packs Carburizing was carried out at various temperatures: 875 0C, 900 0C, soaking  time: 1,2,3 hours and the percentage of PMSP on the carburizer media: 10%, 20%, 30%. The results of the research show that the temperature carburizing , soaking time and the addition of PMSP  affect the thickness of the calcium carbide layer on the surface of SS400 steel which is subjected to pack carburizing process. This is indicated by an increase in the surface  hardness number of 421%, the wear resistance 62,2 %.  the thickness of the calcium carbide layer 1050 µm, the formation of pearlite structure, at the carburizing temperature of 900 0C,  soaking time 3 hours and 30% addition of PMSP.
