Abstract

Sekarang ini karena tuntutan jaman, pengajaran bahasa Inggris untuk mempersiapkan guru-guru PAUD dalam memberikan model English pronunciation amatlah penting sehingga setelah mereka lulus mereka siap dalam memberikan model English pronunciation yang baik kepada siswa-siswanya kelak. Mengingat mahasiswa PG PAUD dapat digolongkan dalam pembelajar dewasa maka pengenalan simbol IPA dianggap cocok dengan karakteristik mahasiswa PG PAUD. Akan tetapi perlu dilakukan penelitian untuk mengetahui sejauh mana keberterimaan mahasiswa prodi PG PAUD terhadap pengenalan simbol IPA dalam pengajaran English pronunciation. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi seberapa penting mempelajari simbol IPA menurut pandangan mahasiswa PG PAUD, mendeskripsikan manfaat yang diperoleh mahasiswa prodi PG PAUD dalam mempelajari simbol IPA, dan mendeskripsikan kesulitan yang dialami mahasiswa prodi PG PAUD dalam mempelajari simbol IPA. Data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui angket terbuka dan tertutup yang diisi 47 mahasiswa Prodi PG PAUD UMS angkatan 2013/2014 yang mengikuti mata kuliah Micro Teaching in English. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa meskipun semua responden menyatakan mempelajari simbol IPA itu penting namun mereka masih mengalami kesulitan dalam mempelajarinya.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out whether or not the use of “Wondershare Quiz Creator Software” significantly improves the students’ reading comprehension of the English Education Program Class E and G, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah University of Makassar Academic Year 2012/2013, based on the narrative text was applied in reading material and investigating students’ interest in learning of reading through Wondershare Quiz Creator Software. The research employed the true experimental method. This research assigned two groups namely experimental group and control group. Each group consisted of 45 students. The sample was chosen by applying cluster random sampling technique. The researcher used reading test both in control and experimental group. The data obtained through the test were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics through SPSS 16.0 version. In conducting the research, the researcher applied the “Wondershare Quiz Creator Software”. The research result showed that there was an improvement in the students’ reading comprehension between pretest and post-test in experimental group after the treatment. It was proven by the result of descriptive and inferential statistics in testing the students’ score either in pretest or in the posttest. The result of the data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the result of posttest of experimental and control group, where the mean score of posttest of the experimental group was 82.22 which is higher than the mean score of posttest of the control group was 72.07. The research also showed that there was interested in the students on learning reading comprehension by using “Wondershare Quiz Creator Software”. It was proven by the result of the mean score of students’ Interest was 86.53 from the total respondent was 45 respondents. Hence, it is worthwhile concluded that “Wondershare Quiz Creator Software” significantly improved the students’ reading comprehension and students are interested in “Wondershare Quiz Creator Software”.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out the improvement of the students’  ability in writing specially for narrative text in terms of grammar and vocabulary by using Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) model.The researcher used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) to explain the improvement which was conducted in two cycles in which every cycle consisted of four meetings. The location of this research was taken at thesecond year of Senior High School Muhammadiyah 2 Kapopposang Makassarwith the number of the subject i.e. 22 students. The data analyze shows thatthe application of SIOP model issignificant in improving the students’ writing ability in terms of grammar and vocabulary. It is proved by the mean score of cycle I is 6,11 then improved to be 7,22 in cycle II. They are higher than the mean score of diagnostic test namely 5,69. It means that there is the improvement of the students’ writing ability in terms of grammar and vocabulary in narrative text. Based on the findings above, the researcher made conclusion that by application SIOP Model could improve the students’ writing skill achievement in narrative text.

Abstract

This research intention is to observe and to know the increase of the students’ speaking ability in fluency at the second grade Exact students of SMA Muhammadiyah 7 Makassar for exactly 22 students joined as the samples. To run this researcht, the researcher applied Classroom Action Research (CAR). The step are Diagnostic test, test cycle I, and test cycle II. Before holding test cycle I and cycle II, the researcher administered action to the students through two cycles, there were  four meetings in every cycle. In cycle I test result had shown the improvement in the students speaking skill compared with the diagnostic test, it was 3.6 for fluency in the diagnostic test. However the improvement was still not complete the standard score which was 6.5, hence the researcher applied cycle II. In the test cycle II the students got the improvement significantly which was 7.6 in fluency.

Abstract

Tesis ini membahas tentang strategi kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan di SMA Negeri 21 Makassar, tujuannya untuk mengetahui strategi kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan di SMA Negeri 21 Makassar, mutunya,  faktor pendukung dan penghambat serta alternatif kepala sekolah menghadapi hambatan dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan di SMA Negeri 21 Makassar.             Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode pengumpulan data melalui observasi, interviw, dokumentasi. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan pedagogis, sosiologis, psikologis dan manajerial.   Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, strategi kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan mutu  pendidikan di SMA Negeri 21 Makassar meliputi: komitmen kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan, merumuskan visi-misi pendidikan, membentuk team work sebagai penggerak mutu,  membagi wewenang dan tanggung  jawab, melengkapi sarana-pra sarana sesuai kebutuhan sekolah, memberdayakan seluruh komponen sekolah, mengontrol seluruh kegiatan sekolah, dan evaluasi setiap diri untuk meningkatkan kinerja.  Mutu pendidikannya meliputi: inputnya baik, proses berjalan efektif dan efesien, outputnya baik karena banyak berhasil masuk Universitas  Negeri dan outcome baik, karena mendapatkan apresiasi di masyarakat. Faktor pendukungnya meliputi: Kepemimpinan yang ramah dan tidak sentralistik, sarana-pra sarana memadai, SDM  (profesionalisme),  team work  yang baik, dukungan  seluruh komponen sekolah  dan  masyarakat. Foktor penghambatnya meliputi: Rendahnya sarana,  rendahnya kualitas guru, rendahnya prestasi siswa, mahalnya biaya pendidikan bagi sekolah sebelum ada dana bantuan dari APBN, dan alternatifnya meliputi: Evaluasi kepala sekolah  terhadap; sarana pra sarana agar ditingkatkan sesuai kebutuah siswa, Pelatihan dan Ditlat bagi guru dan staf untuk  meningkatkan profesionalisme mereka, mengadakan bimbingan secara kontinew bagi seluruh siswa untuk meningkatkan kecerdasan dan mengembangkan bakat mereka,  briping setiap hari bersama team work untuk saling berbagi informasi tentang kemajuan dan kemunduran  sekolah, dan  bermusyawara bersama seluruh stake holders jika ada persoalan besar yang harus diselesaikan.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian dan pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran fisika berbasis KIT IPA (Fisika) Berorientasi Aktivitas. Subjek uji coba adalah peserta didik kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Barombong Kabupaten Gowa berjumlah 32 orang. Prosedur pengembangannya menggunakan model Kemp terdiri dari 9 tahap yaitu menentukan sumber belajar, identifikasi masalah dan tujuan pembelajaran, analisis karakter peserta didik, identifikasi materi pelajaran, menentapkan tujuan pembelajaran khusus, membuat sistematika isi pelajaran, merancang strategi pembelajaran, metode-metode pembelajan, dan mengembangkan instrumen evaluasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) perangkat pembelajaran yang dibuat terdiri dari (RPP), (LKPD), Buku Ajar, Lembar observasi pengamatan keterlaksanaan kegiatan pembelajaran, serta lembar angket respon peserta didik. Berdasarkan penilaian para ahli/pakar, perangkat yang dibuat berada dalam kategori valid, serta adanya respon positif peserta didik yang diperoleh dengan menggunakan angket respon peserta didik terhadap penbelajaran dan perangkat yang digunakan memenuhi kriteria kepraktisan. Perangkat pembelajaran ini memenuhi kriteria efektif karena dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan aktivitas peserta didik. Aktivitas peserta didik dalam pembelajaran berada pada kategori sangat baik, yang menunjukkan perangkat pembelajaran yang digunakan mampu mengaktifkan peserta didik. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan efektivitas model pengalaman berbahasa terkonsentrasi (concentrated language encounter) dalam pembelajaran  kemampuan membaca intensif pada siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 5 Sinjai Selatan Kabupaten Sinjai. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen jenis One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah keseluruhan siswa kelas VIII Negeri 5 Sinjai Selatan Kabupaten Sinjai. Sampel dalam penelitian ini terdiri atas kelas eksperimen dan kontrol dengan jumlah sampel 48 siswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan tes hasil belajar, observasi, dan angket Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik statistik deskriptif dan teknik analisis inferensial jenis uji t one-sample statistics. Hasil penelitian pada kelas eksperimen menunjukkan bahwa terdapat dua puluh tiga (95,83%) orang siswa yang mencapai kriteria ketuntasan minimal, sedangkan hasil belajar pada posttest kelas kontrol sembilan belas (79,16%) orang siswa yang mencapai kriteria ketuntasan minimal. hasil analisis statistik menggunakan program SPSS versi 20 pada kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol diperoleh nilai thitung sebesar 2.593 pada taraf signifikan p = .016 karena p < α = 0,05 maka H0 ditolak, dan H1 diterima. berdasarkan hasil analisis data tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pembelajaran kemampuan membaca intensif setelah diterapkan model pengalaman berbahasa terkonsentrasi (Concentrated Language Encounter)  pada kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Dengan demikian model pengalaman berbahasa terkonsentrasi (Concentrated Language Encounter) efektif dalam pembelajaran kemampuan membaca intensif pada siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 5 Sinjai Selatan Kab. Sinjai.

Abstract

This study investigated correlation between cognitive test-taking strategies and achievement in TOEFL reading comprehension. It was conducted to find out: (1) the most dominant cognitive test-taking strategy applied by the students of English Department at the State University of Makassar, (2) the TOEFL reading achievement of the students of  English Department at the State University of Makassar, (3) the correlation between students’ cognitive test-taking strategies and their achievement in TOEFL reading comprehension. The research applied correlation research design. This research was conducted to the fourth semester students in three fields of study at English Department of State University of Makassar. There were 20 students were from English Education, 12 students from English Literature and 15 students from Business English. The data were collected through documentation of TOEFL reading comprehension score and questionnaire. The research result showed that (1) comprehending strategy was the most dominant cognitive test-taking strategy applied by the students of English Department at the State University of Makassar, (2) the TOEFL reading achievement was achieved into fair category. It was proven by mean score 42.51 range from 21-30 score. (3) there was correlation between cognitive test-taking strategies and TOEFL reading achievement with r = .822 classified as high category in which score interval was higher than 66. Therefore, cognitive test-taking strategies have a role toward TOEFL reading achievement.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether through Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) Strategy (An Experimental Study at the Second Grade of SMA Datuk Ribandang Makassar) can improve the students’ speaking proficiency in terms speaking accuracy dealing with pronunciation and  fluency dealing with smoothness. A pre-experimental design was employed with one class of the second grade in SMA Datuk Ribandang Makassar, selected purposively as sample. The data obtained through a pre-test and post-test in speaking test. The research results indicated that the use of Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) Strategy could improve the students’ accuracy and fluency in speking proficiency especially in pronunciation, vocabulary and smoothness. It was proved by the students’ mean score of pre-test was (5.28) and in post-test was (7.62). The findings of this research shows that the value of t-test in the posttest is higher than t table (4.29 > 2.09). It means that there was significant difference of the students’ pronunciation and smoothness in speaking English before and after being taught using Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) Strategy at the Second Grade of SMA Datuk Ribandang. The statistical computation showed that Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) Strategy was effective in improving the students’ speaking proficiency in accuracy and fluency.

Abstract

The present study was aimed to find out the topics of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) for Nursing students of Islamic State University of Alauddin Makassar (UINAM), Indonesia, based on need analysis.  This research employed a qualitative research. The participants were 50 nursing students, 5 graduates and 3 English lecturers who teach more than two years in this university. For collecting data, the students and graduates were required to fill out the questionnaires, and a semi-structured interview was applied by the researcher for the English lecturers. The research result indicates that 14 topics of English materials which related to the students major. Speaking as the most difficult language skill was needed by the students. It was followed by writing, reading, and listening. In line with teaching method, the students need practical demonstration as teaching method should apply in the classroom. The result of this research as the topic of ESP will be proposed to the institution, curriculum designer, and lecturer in order to design English Material for nursing students based on need analysis.
