Abstract

This study investigates the factors influencing artificial intelligence (AI) adoption readiness among Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (Islamic Elementary School) teachers in Polewali Mandar, Indonesia. Employing a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design, the research examined the relationships between teachers' perceptions of AI benefits (PB), teachers’ attitudes toward AI (TA), and their readiness to adopt AI technologies (AR). Data were collected from 45 teachers selected through purposive sampling based on specific criteria including minimum teaching experience and basic digital technology knowledge. The research instrument consisted of a questionnaire with a 4-point Likert scale measuring the three main variables. Data analysis was performed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings revealed strong support for all three hypotheses: teachers' perceptions of AI benefits significantly influenced their attitudes toward AI (path coefficient = 0.914), teachers' perceptions directly affected their AI adoption readiness (path coefficient = 0.603), and teachers' attitudes positively influenced their adoption readiness (path coefficient = 0.389). The model demonstrated exceptional explanatory power with R-square values of 0.942 for AI adoption readiness and 0.836 for teachers' attitudes toward AI. The SRMR value of 0.075 indicated adequate model fit. These results suggest that while positive attitudes contribute to adoption readiness, the perception of tangible benefits appears to be the more influential factor in teachers' decisions to embrace AI technology. This research provides an empirical foundation for educational stakeholders to design effective AI implementation strategies in Islamic elementary schools by prioritizing demonstrations of tangible technology benefits as the key factor in enhancing teacher adoption readiness.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of extracurricular activities in shaping the character of elementary school children, as well as to examine the integration of local values in these activities. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design involving eight informants—teachers, parents, principals, and students — who are actively involved in extracurricular activities. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. The results of the study indicate that extracurricular activities in elementary schools have a significant influence on developing students' character, such as discipline, cooperation, leadership, and a sense of responsibility. Extracurricular activities such as Scouting, Paskibraka, futsal, and drum band play an essential role in fostering positive character in students. Additionally, these activities incorporate local values, such as cooperation and environmental responsibility. Despite challenges related to time constraints and limited resources, support from schools, teachers, and the community is crucial to maximizing the benefits of these activities. This study reveals that integrating local values into extracurricular activities not only strengthens students' character but also preserves local culture and traditions while reinforcing national pride and cultural identity. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of extracurricular activities in character education and provide recommendations for the development of more effective educational policies in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study evaluates pre-service science teachers’ conceptual understanding of global warming using the Content Representation (CoRe) instrument. A descriptive design was employed with purposive sampling of second-year science education students. Data were gathered through eight CoRe prompts eliciting essential concepts, rationales, instructional sequencing, student considerations, decision factors, assessment strategies, and anticipated challenges. Responses were scored with a four-level rubric to derive profiles of strengths and weaknesses. Findings indicate overall understanding at a medium yet tending-to-low level; participants could identify core ideas and justify relevance but struggled to organize coherent conceptual sequences, connect student context to instructional decisions, and articulate specific indicators of understanding. These findings highlight the necessity to enhance mechanism-based content knowledge, assessment literacy for conceptual comprehension, and evidence-informed practice via microteaching and data-analysis activities. The study recommends integrating CoRe as a structured reflection tool within teacher education curricula.

Abstract

Project-based learning integrated with technology requires and hones many digital competencies of teachers and students. Digital literacy, as a step to strengthen the digital competencies of teachers and students, is a manifestation of the use of information and communication technology brought into 21st-century learning. This study aims to describe teachers' and students' perceptions of the effectiveness of digital literacy in project-based learning and how digital competencies are applied by both teachers and students in project-based learning. The results of this study show that digital literacy was implemented by teachers offering choices of relevant digital media for students to use in their projects, demonstrating examples of their usage and outcomes, and students then studying and selecting the most appropriate media for their projects. This method of implementing project-based learning encouraged the process of digital literacy among teachers and students. The study also found that students perceived the application of digital literacy as highly effective, particularly in terms of speed and ease of project completion. The multimodal approach encouraged them to become more independent, and this independence fostered their active engagement in completing their projects. Teachers observed that allowing students the freedom to choose digital modes for their projects promoted creativity in producing project outcomes. This study demonstrates that good implementation of digital literacy, with attention to creating interactive spaces, enables students to have positive experiences by granting them the freedom to select their digital modes within project-based learning. It recommends that future research develop models of digital literacy for project-based learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore how female English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers with double responsibilities as a wife/mother and teacher describe their grit in self-directed Professional Development (PD) in Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) context and the challenges they face. This study employed a narrative inquiry approach to understand participants’ stories. The study recruited three female EFL teachers in Indonesia as the research participants. In Indonesia, a female teacher typically had double responsibilities by being a wife/mother in their family and a teacher in school. The first stage allowed the researcher to collect all data of biographical survey, teachers’ concept map, and narrative interview. Following the steps for qualitative content analysis, all the data were then being processed. In the second stage, the researcher provided these ideas value by combining or recreating them in a narrative way through stories. It was based on the idea that humans gave the world as well as their knowledge, action, and value through narrative constructions. The results showed: 1) Indonesian female EFL teachers’ grit in CALL context was typically described by their passion for teaching, support system (family, colleagues, students), and responsibility of being a teacher, and (2) during their journey of self-directed PD in the CALL context, female EFL teachers faced challenges in constructing grit such as time management, burnout, and stereotypes as novice teachers. The results were expected to provide a new perspective for schools and government in comprehending female EFL teachers’ needs and challenges.
