Abstract

Improving the health and well-being of teenagers is essential, especially during puberty. Teenage girls undergo a variety of changes, both physically and mentally. Adequate nutrition is necessary to support the completion of puberty. Menstruation, which involves the shedding of the uterine lining and egg cells is one of primary bodily changes young women experience during puberty. Adolescent girls’ menstrual cycles are influenced by hormonal changes during puberty. Menstrual problems or disorders that need to be known and frequently become complaints include dysmenorrhea (pain during menstruation), menorrhagia (large blood volume during menstruation), amenorrhea (menstruation that abruptly stops for no apparent reason or has not occurred since the age of 16), and oligomenorrhea. This study, conducted at the women's dormitory at Tribhuwana Tunggadewi University in Malang, aimed to assess young women's nutritional adequacy during their menstrual cycle. Utilizing a robust correlational research design, the study was carried out from July to August 2024 to ensure the reliability of the results. A total of 32 respondents participated. Statistical analysis with the Chi-square test yielded significant findings: adolescent girls' BMI had a significantly impacts on nutritional adequacy, with a p-value (2-tailed) of 0.000 (p 0.05). The analysis showed 19 respondents had a normal BMI (59.4%), while 12 (37.5%) were classified as underweight. Additionally, 28 respondents (87.5%) were have adequate nutrition, demonstrating the effectiveness of the study's methodology in assessing nutritional adequacy during the menstrual cycle. It is recommended to increase the number of study sample and examine other factors that may contribute to irregular menstrual cycle.

Abstract

Hypertension is known as a silent killer because many individuals are unaware that they have high blood pressure, which can lead to significant health complications and various diseases. Treatment modalities includes pharmacological intervention (medication) and non-pharmacological intervention (treatment without chemicals). Consuming fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins, water, and minerals such as cucumbers can be utilized as non-pharmacological treatments to manage blood pressure.  Cucumbers contain potassium, which helps to dilate blood vessels thereby reducing blood pressure. This study aims to determine the impact of administering cucumber juice to elderly individuals with hypertension. The research design employed quasi-experimental design, with the one group of pre-post-test method. The study included 30 respondents whose blood pressure was measured before and after consuming cucumber juice. The results were analyzed using Wilcoxon analysis test, with a p-value of 0.0001 0.05, indicating a significant impact of cucumber juice to elderly with hypertension. The Health Center is encouraged to implement and advocated for the use of cucumber juice as a non-pharmacological intervention for managing hypertension among the elderly.

Abstract

Shivering is a common issue experienced by patients during surgery, caused by exposure to cold operating room air. This loss of body heat can make patients uncomfortable and require more oxygen. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the management of shivering and hypothermia based on literature review. A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA). The article selection process followed the PICO framework. The population consists of individual patients undergoing surgery with spinal anesthesia. The study included patients who experienced shivering and underwent non-pharmacological interventions for temperature management. Articles published between 2018 and 2024 were searched in four databases: Scopus, EBSCO, ProQuest, and PubMed. The quality of the articles was evaluated using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) format. The initial search identified 270 articles, which were narrowed down to 12 after removing duplicates and reviewing titles and inclusion criteria. In this study, 1326 individuals undergoing surgery were surveyed. To prevent hypothermia and shivering, several non-pharmacological methods can be used, such as pre-warming using forced-air warming, which increases body temperature. Isothermic irrigation was found to reduce the decrease in core temperature and the incidence of shivering. Preoperative warming can be done for durations of 30, 15, and 10 minutes before induction. To conclude, shivering can be prevented by non-pharmacological methods to increase core body temperature so that it will increase patient comfort during surgery. One of the innovations that can be done is by making warm vests

Abstract

Cervical cancer is a disease with high morbidity and mortality rates and ranks 4th highest in the world. Most people are not yet aware of the importance of early detection of cervical cancer, one of which is by visual inspection of acetic acid. The Health Belief Model Theory is needed to make people aware of the importance of Visual Inspection of Acetic Acid. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the health belief model and early detection of cervical cancer using the visual inspection method of acetic acid. The research design used was a cross-sectional design with a population of all integrated service post cadres in the Jagir Surabaya Health Center working area totaling 84 people. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The sample consisted of 70 people with the criteria of being married and/or having had sexual intercourse. The instruments used were the Health Belief Model questionnaire and the Visual Inspection of Acetic Acid questionnaire. The analysis test used the Chi-square test, and the Fisher’s exact test as an alternative test, which obtained a p value of 0.714 for susceptibility, 1.000 for seriousness and severity, 0.767 for benefits and 1.000 for obstacles. The results of the study showed no significant relationship between vulnerability, seriousness and severity, benefits and barriers to the use of early detection of the IVA method. So that multivariate testing cannot be carried out. The follow-up plan for further research is to provide interventions for women of childbearing age in order to improve health behavior in early detection of cervical cancer with routine Acetic Acid Inspection examinations.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal injuries in school children are one of the problems found, especially in rural areas. Providing health education on first aid for musculoskeletal injuries can build knowledge, motivation, and self-efficacy, so it is important to develop new strategies. This study analyzes the comparative effect of local language first aid short film media and the "“Toma Cemas”” module on students' knowledge, motivation, and self-efficacy. This study used a quasi-experimental method with two groups pretest-posttest. The first group received health education through local language short films and the second group received a ““Toma Cemas”” module on first aid for musculoskeletal injuries. With a population of 234 students, this study involved 84 samples divided into two groups, each consisting of 42 respondents using a stratified random sampling technique. The results of the independent t-test to assess the comparison of knowledge show p value 0.045 (p 0.05) and self–efficacy show 0.005 (p value 0.05).  There is a significant difference in the mean of knowledge and self -efficacy between the two groups there. The motivation variable shows a p value of 0.141 (p 0.05) so there is no significant difference in mean value of motivation. ““Toma Cemas”” Module is more suitable for increasing students' knowledge because the module's materials are in written form accompanied by animated images and explanations. Local language short films have a more effective influence than the ““Toma Cemas”” Module suitable for increasing students' self-efficacy related to the use of local languages, which help students feel comfortable in the process of learning first aid in rural areas.

Abstract

Smoking is a major public health concern worldwide and is a leading cause of preventable morbidity and mortality. In Indonesia, smoking rates are among the highest globally; however, little is known about smoking behavior among older adults, particularly across rural and urban settings. This study aimed to examine the prevalence of smoking and its associated factors among older adults in Indonesia, focusing on demographic, socioeconomic, and geographic disparities. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using data from the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) 2023, which included 97,339 participants aged 60 years and older. A multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method was employed to ensure representativeness. Smoking behavior, cigarette consumption, and indoor smoking practices were analyzed alongside demographic variables, such as age, sex, education level, marital status, work status, and region. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests were used, with adjustments for the complex survey design using STATA 15.1. The overall smoking prevalence was 30.98%, with a higher rate in urban areas (17.77%) than in rural areas (13.21%). Daily cigarette consumption was more common than weekly smoking, and 76.23% of smokers reported smoking indoors. Smoking was significantly associated with a lower educational level, employments status, and marital status. Urban residents showed a higher smoking prevalence and consumption pattern than rural residents. This study highlights disparities in smoking behavior among older adults in Indonesia, emphasizing the need for targeted public health interventions. Efforts should focus on reducing indoor smoking, improving access to smoking cessation programs, and addressing socioeconomic factors contributing to smoking behavior, particularly in urban areas

Abstract

Disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and pandemics have been shown to affect the quality of life, mental health, and economic sustainability of affected communities. In response to these disasters, individuals are expected to prepare themselves and their families for the worst risks that can occur at any time. Currently, family preparedness is very important to be grown in social life. The purpose of this research is to describe the relationship between socio-demographic factors associated with family preparedness in urban disaster-prone areas in Probolinggo District. The research design used was descriptive analytic research design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique with a sample of 122 respondents. Furthermore, respondents will be given a questionnaire to determine or identify family preparedness variables. After that, the data was collected and processed with the help of SPSS 23 for windows using bivariate tests on each variable to determine its relationship with family preparedness. From the results of the bivariate test using Spearman rank, there is a significant relationship between socio-demographic factors and family preparedness including: gender (p=0.000), education (p=0.000), occupation (p=0.000), and knowledge with (p=0.015). Meanwhile, the variables of age (p=0.808) and social support (p=0.195) have no correlation with family preparedness (p value 0.05). These results indicate that it is important to improve family preparedness by correcting deficiencies in several factors that do not have a significant relationship from the research results
