Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Inquiry Learning and the impact of Powtoon-assisted learning on students' interest in learning and understanding of mathematical concepts at SMKN 3 Mataram. The low interest in learning and understanding of mathematical concepts that persists in schools is caused by learning that tends to be conventional and does not involve students actively in the learning process. Therefore, a learning model is needed that can increase active student engagement while being supported by engaging learning media. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental type and a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group. The research population was all class XI students of SMKN 3 Mataram in the 2026 academic year. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely the experimental class, which was given treatment in Inquiry Learning using Powtoon, and a control class using conventional learning. The research instruments were a learning interest questionnaire and a mathematical concept understanding test. Data analysis was conducted using prerequisite tests (normality and homogeneity tests) and hypothesis testing with the Independent Samples t-Test. The results showed that Inquiry Learning and Powtoon-assisted learning are effective in increasing students' interest in learning and understanding of mathematical concepts. This is indicated by an increase in the average score in the experimental class, which was higher than the control class, both in terms of interest in learning and understanding of mathematical concepts. Thus, it can be concluded that Inquiry Learning and Powtoon assistance are effectively used in mathematics learning to increase students' interest in learning and understanding of mathematical concepts at SMKN 3 Mataram

Abstract

Mathematical critical thinking ability is an important skill that students must have in learning mathematics. However, the lack of clear data regarding this ability at SMKN 7 Mataram prompted this study. This study aims to analyze the mathematical critical thinking ability of grade X students of SMKN 7 Mataram on quadratic equations. The study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. The research subjects were 460 students from 13 classes. Data were collected through tests, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results showed that students' mathematical critical thinking ability was in the medium category, with 102 students (22.22%) in the high category, 230 students (50.00%) in the medium category, and 128 students (27.78%) in the low category. Students in the high category were able to fulfill almost all critical thinking indicators, while students in the medium and low categories still experienced difficulties in providing arguments and evaluating the results of problem solving. The results of this study are expected to be a basis for improving students' mathematical critical thinking ability through more effective learning.

Abstract

Cognitive ability is an important aspect of early childhood development, particularly in recognizing the surrounding environment, including animals. Conventional learning methods, which are generally one-way in nature, are considered less effective in optimizing children's active engagement. This study aims to describe the implementation of the PUZOOVA (Puzzle Zoo Adventure) Digital Game in stimulating the cognitive ability of kindergarten children to recognize animals. The study was conducted with Group B kindergarten children aged 5–6 years at PAUD Kamilia. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving 10 Group B kindergarten children as participants. Data were collected through participatory observation, unstructured interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the use of the PUZOOVA Digital Game had a significant positive impact on children's cognitive ability to recognize animals. A total of 90% of the children were able to recall animal names after the activity (categorized as Very Well Developed), while 80% demonstrated high levels of enthusiasm and active participation. The use of real animal images in an interactive digital puzzle format was proven to broaden children's cognitive knowledge, enhance logical reasoning, improve hand-eye coordination, and develop problem-solving skills in an enjoyable and meaningful way.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has increasingly transformed English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing instruction, particularly in vocational education where students are expected to develop workplace-oriented communication skills. This study aimed to explore teachers’ and students’ perceptions of AI tools in teaching EFL writing at a tourism-focused vocational school. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, the study involved three English teachers and fifteen eleventh-grade students of SMKN 1 Batulayar. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis of students’ writing products. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while triangulation was employed to ensure trustworthiness. The findings revealed that teachers generally perceived AI as a beneficial instructional support tool that facilitates grammar checking, feedback provision, and material preparation. However, they expressed concerns regarding students’ dependence on AI, declining vocabulary retention, reduced critical thinking, and diminished writing originality. Students, on the other hand, viewed AI as a practical and efficient tool for generating ideas, improving grammar, translating vocabulary, and completing writing assignments. Despite these benefits, many students reported feelings of guilt, lack of confidence, and reduced independence in composing texts. Classroom observations and document analysis further demonstrated a discrepancy between students’ submitted writing products and their actual language competence. The study concludes that AI possesses significant pedagogical potential when utilized as a learning scaffold rather than a substitute for students’ cognitive efforts. Therefore, AI integration in EFL writing instruction should be accompanied by AI literacy education, process-based assessment, ethical guidelines, and teacher-mediated feedback. These measures are essential to ensure that AI supports students’ writing development while maintaining their critical thinking, language competence, and professional readiness.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of creativity in the learning process among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 9 Sampit. The teaching methods used remain one-sided and rely heavily on textbooks, leaving little room for students to explore and develop their own ideas. The objective of this study is to enhance student creativity through the use of smart card learning media that integrates digital links, contextual case studies, and summaries of course material. A Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, employing a descriptive quantitative approach based on the Kemmis and McTaggart cycle model, was utilized. The study was conducted in two cycles, with three sessions in each cycle. All 27 eighth-grade students participated as research subjects. Based on Munandar’s four affective indicators of creativity—curiosity, imagination, willingness to take risks, and respect for others’ opinions—observation sheets and creativity questionnaires were used to collect data. The research results show that the average creativity score increased gradually, from 2.2 in the pre-cycle to 2.8 in Cycle I and 3.3 in Cycle II, exceeding the minimum success criterion of 3.0. The “willingness to take risks” indicator received the highest score of 1.5 points, and the “curiosity” indicator received the highest score of 3.7 at the end of Cycle II. This success was found to be influenced by reflective improvements made in each cycle, which included enhancements to the game mechanics, group role assignments, and targeted motivation. This study found that smart cards effectively enhance student creativity. The results indicate that smart cards can serve as an inventive alternative for teaching social studies and other subjects.
