Abstract

Cr(VI) is a toxic, mutagenic, and carcinogenic metal. This heavy metal have effect harmful on organism and the environment. In this study, an electroanalytic approach was improved for detection of the Cr(VI) using a pencil lead electrode modified with gold thin layer by cyclic voltammetry. Gold thin layer was electrodeposited on the pencil lead electrode surface with potential-sweeping technique at scan of potential from 1.2 V to 0 V. Since the Cr(VI) species depends on the pH, effect of supporting electrolytes matrix at various pH were investigated. It was found that Cr(VI) gave a reduction peak with a peak potential of 0.35 V vs Ag/AgCl in cyclic voltammogram with 0.1M HClO4 as supporting electrolyte. The calibration curve for Cr(VI) at gold thin layer modified pencil lead electrode shows linearity in range of 5 µM to 100 µM with a detection limit of 2.3 µM achieved.

Abstract

Reports of the chemical constituents of Andrographis paniculata showed that this plant produced various secondary metabolites with antibacterial activity. Further exploration of bioactive compounds from A. paniculata can also be conducted by analyzing its endophytic fungi. Isolation of endophytic fungi from the twig of A. paniculata obtained three isolates of endophytic fungi. One of the isolates, RS-2, was fermented on rice media and extracted with ethyl acetate to give the EtOAc extract. The EtOAc extract from fungus RS-2 was analyzed for their antibacterial and phytochemical screening. The results exhibiting the EtOAc extract of fungus RS-2 has activity to inhibite bacterial growth. Overall, the study of the antibacterial activity of endophytic fungus obtained from the twig of A. paniculata was firstly carried out in this study

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of rhizobacteria and seed pruning on the growth and yield of red chilies. This research has been carried out in the Malvinas Delta permanent nursery, Padang Watershed Management Agency (BPDAS). This experiment used a factorial completely randomized design with 2 factors. The first factor was pruning the seeds, namely: without pruning, trimming at 21 days after sowing, trimming at 30 days after sowing. The second factor is the provision of rhizobacteria which consists of: without rhizobacteria and given rhizobacteria. The observations made in the experiment were plant height, number of primary branches, age of flowering, age at first harvest, length of fruit, number of fruit planted, and weight of fruit planted. The results of the experiment showed a significant interaction between pruning seeds and giving rhizobacteria to the growth and yield of red chilies at the plant height and number of branches. The influence of rhizobacteria on the growth and yield of red chilies on the parameters of the age of flowering, number of fruit planted, and fruit weight of the plant with a yield of 156.70 g/plant.

Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) is one of the diseases suffered by people over the world due to musculoskeletal disorders. Blood serum was analyzed for total cholesterol, LDL-C, HDL-C, and triglyceride levels. Cholesterol surface ultrastructure analysis was performed using a SEM microscope. The results showed that total cholesterol and LDL-C levels decreased in the blood serum of LBP patients who had undergone acupuncture therapy by 10 times. Morphology of the surface ultrastructure of cholesterol in the blood serum of LBP patients also showed a reduction in the amount of cholesterol after acupuncture therapy by 10 times. These two results might be useful to improve scientific information for reducing LBP pain, especially through acupuncture therapy.

Abstract

Infant mortality is an indicator to determine the degree of public health. Infant mortality is death that occurs in the period from birth to before the age of one. The high rate of infant mortality indicates that the quality of public health services is not optimal. The number of infant deaths is an example of count data that follows a Poisson distribution, so it can be analyzed using Poisson Regression. The assumption that must be met when using this method is the equidispersion or variance of the response variable is equal to mean. However, this condition rarely occurs because usually the counted data has a greater variance than the mean or it is called overdispersion. One way to solve this problem is to use the Negative Binomial Regression method. The data used in this study is the case of infant mortality in the city of Padang. First, we model the data using Poisson Regression, then we check the assumption, if there is overdispersion, we handle it by modeling the data with Negative Binomial Regression. The results showed that the equidispersion assumption could not be met so that the data was modeled with Negative Binomial Regression.

Abstract

Dr. Soetomo Surabaya Hospital in 2019 received 167,000 cancer patients, and the highest was breast cancer. The increase in the stage of breast cancer is caused by the size of the tumor and how widely the cancer cells have spread to other organs. The purpose of this study was to apply the ordinal logistic regression method in the case of factors that support the condition of breast cancer stage in Dr. Soetomo Surabaya Hospital. The result of this study is that the factors that support the condition of breast cancer stages are grade and family history of breast cancer with a classification accuracy rate of 84.3%. Breast cancer patients at Dr. Soetomo Surabaya Hospital with grade 3 is likely to support staging conditions from locally advanced to advanced by 0.06 times compared to grade 1 patients. patients with grade 2 is likely to support staging conditions from locally advanced to advanced by 0.17 times compared to grade 1 patients. Patients who have a history of breast cancer in their family will have a risk of developing breast cancer with locally advanced stages to advanced stages 3.84 times than in patients with no family history of breast cancer.

Abstract

Komodo National Park is located in East Nusa Tenggara province which has a dry tropical climate. Air temperature in this area is relatively high with a lower rainfall compared to most of other Indonesian regions. This condition causes ecosystem in Komodo National Park to be unique with a wide area of savannah and dryland forest. This study aims to identify the change of rainfall and land cover in Komodo National Park in 2018-2020. The analysis was conducted using secondary data from observations and satellite products. The result shows that West Manggarai is classified in Aw climate type. The value of rainfall follows the pattern of ENSO events with a correlation between tree-month data of rainfall and the Ocean Nino Index (ONI) is 42% in average of June-December. The land cover of vegetation in March/April has decreased by 2,240 Ha (2018-2019) and 2,517 Ha (2019-2020) or around 4% and 5% of total area. La Nina has occurred during wet season 2017/2018 followed by El Nino in the coming years. There was decreasing of rainfall during November-February period in 2019 and 2020, which was 17% and 37% lower compared to 2018.
