Abstract

CHLB is a measure of livability in society. A high CHLB indicates a society that lives well. However, there is a problem in the probolinggo district that needs more effective public health interventions because of the area's fast population growth and a noticeable increase in infectious diseases. The adoption of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (CHLB) by Probolinggo district is the main focus of this study to find out who is still living below the applicable eligibility standards. In order to minimize the spread of infectious diseases and enhance general public health in Probolinggo Regency, policymakers and healthcare professionals are anticipated to find great value in the study's findings. It also examines the use of binary logistic regression with binary transformation all categorical variables as a supplemental technique for managing complex data relationships and enhancing predictive accuracy. In addition to addressing the pressing issues in public health, this study advances our knowledge of the socioeconomic factors that influence health in rural Indonesia.

Abstract

Iron is one of the most widely used metals in industry. This study was conducted on the performance of inhibitor compounds in rimbang leaf extract against iron corrosion based on several theoretical approaches. The method used is Density Functional Theory (DFT) with the basis set B3LYP/6-31G. The parameters obtained from the optimization results are EHOMO, ELUMO, dipole moment, and total energy so quantum chemical parameters were obtained in the form gap energy (ΔE), electronegativity (χ), ionization potential (I), electron affinity (A), hardness (η), softness (σ), electrophilicity (ω) and nucleophilicity (ε), adsorption energy and bond energy. The calculation results showed that fisetin, alpha tocopherol-beta-d-mannoside and benzene,1-(bromomethyl)-3-nitro- were the most effective inhibitor molecules compared to other compounds. The interaction of inhibitors with Fe (110) crystals seen from the adsorption energy (Eads) and binding energy (Ebinding) shows that among the three best compounds contained in the rimbang extract alpha tocopherol-beta-d-mannoside has the lowest bond energy of -200.13 kJ/mol and the Inh-Fe bond length value is 1.84 Å. The bond energy and bond length values show that the interaction between the inhibitor and the Fe molecule is a chemical interaction.

Abstract

Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease characterized by distinct molecular and metabolic characteristics, making its diagnostics and treatment challenging. The existence of metabolic reprogramming in breast cancer underscores the potential to identify biomarkers through metabolomics studies, offering new avenues for personalized therapeutic approaches. Machine learning algorithms are now increasingly used to uncover complex patterns in metabolomics data. A comprehensive analysis of in silico metabolomics had successfully identified 24 significant metabolites after rigorous univariate and multivariate tests. Pathway analysis highlighted the apparent involvement of glycerolphosphate in glycerophospholipid and glycerolipid metabolism, indicating its potential role in breast cancer pathology. Validation of these 24 metabolites using machine learning algorithms provided superior results, with Neural Network achieving an AUC of 0.979 and a precision of 93%, Logistic Regression showing an AUC of 0.945 and a precision of 95.7%, as well as Random Forest reporting an AUC of 0.974 and a precision of 95.7% in predictive performance. These findings demonstrate the remarkable ability of machine learning to improve biomarker validation accuracy in metabolomics, facilitating better diagnostic strategies for breast cancer.

Abstract

Herbal tea is a beverage made from dried leaves, flowers, seeds, nuts, bark, fruits, and other plant components, excluding Camellia sinensis. This study developed herbal tea bags using gotu kola leaves (Centella asiatica) and Siamese orange peel (Citrus nobilis) sweetened with stevia to enhance flavor and antioxidants. The research aimed to assess the chemical and organoleptic characteristics and identify the most preferred formula. Treatments involved varying ratios of gotu kola leaves to Siamese orange peel: (100%: 0%), (80%: 20%), (75%: 25%), (70%: 30%), and (65%: 35%). A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications was used, and data were analyzed using ANOVA and DNMRT at a 5% significance level. Results showed significant effects of mixing ratios on DPPH antioxidant activity, total polyphenols, water-soluble content, pH, IC50 antioxidant activity, and organoleptic attributes (color and aroma), but not on moisture content, ash content, TPC, or taste. Treatment E (65%: 35%) was optimal, with moisture content 7.54%, ash content 6.65%, DPPH antioxidant activity 58.02%, total polyphenols 746.67 mg GAE/g, water-soluble content 35.33%, TPC 2.8×10³ CFU/g, pH 6.71, and IC50 67 ppm. Panelists preferred this formulation, scoring its color (3.96), aroma (3.72), and taste (3.72) as "like".

Abstract

Obesity is a manifestation of abnormal fat accumulation which can lead to impairment in several organs, including the brain. Neuroinflammation is considered the cause of cell death as well as reactive oxygen species in hippocampal neuron cells. It results in disturbance of memory forming process. Impaired learning and memory function affects a person's ability to carry out daily tasks and lower quality of life over time, so they should be circumvented with preventive, curative, and rehabilitative measures. The understanding of the pathological mechanisms of obesity-induced memory impairment based on the changes at molecular levels is imperative for an effective management. We collected and reviewed research articles to summarize the pathological mechanisms. Twenty studies were included in this review in terms of signaling pathway, molecular markers in brain and changes in memory and behavior pattern. It is showed that memory changes in obesity could be resulted from inflammation, impaired neurogenesis and cell senescence via various mechanisms and pathways. In conclusion, the understanding of the pathomechanisms in obesity-induced memory impairment aids to its the prevention and treatment.

Abstract

Hydrophilic and hydrophobic coated metal foams have been successfully prepared via a cleaning procedure and a simple spraying technique to be used as a wick structure in a heat pipe. The main object of this work is to explore the effect of hydrophilic and hydrophobic layers on the metal foam and to study the properties of the metal foams. To achieve this goal, 3D-OM analyses were performed to identify the pore size of the metal foam. To observe the surface morphology and porosity of the metal foam, SEM analysis was carried out and succeeded in observing the changes in the surface roughness of the hydrophilic and hydrophobic coated metal foams. The pore diameter, porosity and density of metal foam were 633.38 µm, 48.46% and 4.62 g/cm3, respectively. FT-IR analysis was also performed with the results showing that the hydrophobic coating did not affect the overall molecular group composition. Contact angle analysis shown that the values were 74° and 112° (first day) on the hydrophilic and hydrophobic coated samples.

Abstract

In ideal conditions, offshore platform design follows standardized international criteria such as the American Petroleum Institute Recommended Practice 2A-LRFD (API RP2A-LRFD) to ensure structural reliability and safety. However, the real conditions in the Java Sea present unique challenges, as environmental loading patterns and regional factors may differ from those assumed in global standards. This study proposes a comprehensive solution through combined structural analysis and reliability assessment using Monte Carlo simulation methods. The urgency of this research stems from the critical need to validate and potentially adjust design standards for regional applications, ensuring the long-term safety and reliability of offshore structures in Southeast Asian waters. The research objectives focus on evaluating the structural reliability of a four-legged jacket type platform using both deterministic and probabilistic approaches, specifically assessing the applicability of API RP2A-LRFD criteria to Java Sea conditions. Results demonstrate that while the structure meets basic design criteria, the reliability indices (β = 16.70 for LRFD, β = 22.29 for unfactored) suggest current load factors may be overly conservative for regional conditions.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that increases susceptibility to bacterial infections, particularly in chronic wounds. This study aims to identify Klebsiella pneumoniae in wound swab samples from diabetic patients and evaluate the antibacterial activity of soursop leaf (Annona muricata L.) extract. Wound swabs were collected aseptically and analyzed through Gram staining, biochemical testing, and selective media to confirm the presence of Klebsiella pneumoniae. The antibacterial effect of the extract was tested at concentrations of 20%, 40%, and 60% using the well diffusion method, with gentamicin and chloramphenicol as positive controls. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and steroids. Results demonstrated a concentration-dependent inhibition of Klebsiella pneumoniae, with the highest inhibition zone observed at 60%, though smaller than the standard antibiotics. This study highlights the potential of Annona muricata extract as a natural antibacterial agent for diabetic wound infections and supports its role in developing alternative therapies. Further studies are recommended to optimize its efficacy and explore clinical applications.

Abstract

The Sidenuk black rice mutant is the latest development of Sidenuk Rice which is known to excel in high rice production and is resistant to pests. Due to the many health benefits offered by black rice and no data on anthocyanin content and antioxidant activity of the mutant black rice variety Sidenuk, further research is needed. This study aims to analyze the anthocyanin content and antioxidant activity of Sidenuk black rice mutants (Oryza sativa var. sidenuk). The yield of concentrated macerate of Sidenuk black rice mutant produced was 23.25%. Based on the results obtained in the qualitative test and information from the journal, it indicates that Sidenuk black rice mutant contains anthocyanin compounds, but not in Sidenuk white rice mutant. The cyanidin 3-glucoside compound was the most abundant anthocyanin compound in the Sidenuk black rice mutant, followed by peonidin-3-glucoside. The total anthocyanin content in black rice is 1.07 ± 0.04 mg/g. This data is higher than black glutinous rice but lower than other black rice varieties. The IC50 value of Sidenuk black rice mutant is 36.02±5.09 µg/mL, which is classified as strong antioxidant and is the strongest of all black rice varieties in this study.
