Abstract

Children are a nation's valuable asset and must be continuously educated and guided, both academically and in terms of character development. Among the children who require special attention are the refugee children from Nduga District, who are pursuing primary education at YPPGI Napua Primary School. The primary issue they face is their low literacy skills in reading, which negatively affects their academic abilities and further limits their ability to follow lessons, ultimately impacting their overall learning outcomes. Therefore, this community service program aims to train and guide refugee students at YPPGI Napua Primary School, Highlands Papua, who struggle with literacy and academic skills. The method used in this program is based on a participatory approach, where each student is provided with guidance tailored to their abilities and needs through five stages: Initial Coordination and Preparation, Pretest and Student Grouping, Reading and Academic Tutoring, Posttest and Progress Evaluation, and Advanced Learning and Final Testing. The results showed a significant improvement in reading ability and academic understanding. The final test conducted at the end of the program indicated that around 85% of the students made substantial progress. In conclusion, the literacy and academic tutoring program for refugee students at YPPGI Napua Primary School successfully achieved its primary goal of improving students' literacy and academic knowledge, and had a positive impact on their motivation and self-confidence in facing exams and advancing to junior high school. This program made a significant contribution to the development of education in the refugee area and could serve as an effective solution for improving education quality in remote regions, offering inspiration for the implementation of similar models in other areas facing similar challenges.

Abstract

Malnutrition is one of the biggest causes of morbidity and mortality in children under 5 years of age in developing countries related to metabolic, social, and environmental risk factors during the first 1000 days of life/HPK (from conception to the first 2 years of life). Stunting is the most common form of malnutrition in children, and exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0-6 months and continued until the child is 2 years old is an effort to prevent stunting. Breastfeeding mothers can experience various problems in the breastfeeding process, such as decreased production and smoothness of breast milk which can cause failure of exclusive breastfeeding. Breastfeeding training using Oxytocin Stimulation and SEFT breastfeeding (SOS Breastfeeding) for cadres and breastfeeding mothers with their families is an effort to maintain breast milk production and smoothness, through relaxation techniques and reducing stress levels to help minimize prolactin inhibitors and gentle massage for oxytocin stimulation to increase smoothness of breast milk. The training was attended by 7 cadres and 15 breastfeeding mothers with their families. The training method was conducted directly with lecture techniques, simulations, and demonstrations to Posyandu cadres, breastfeeding mothers, and their families. Participants were given a pretest, an explanation of the process of breast milk production and release, a simulation and demonstration of SOS breastfeeding, and a post-test. The results of the training showed an increase in the knowledge, attitude, and skills scores of cadres and breastfeeding mothers before and after training with an average knowledge and attitude score of 6.8 pretests (with the lowest score of 4 and the highest score of 8) and an average posttest score of 8.6 (the lowest score of 6 and the highest score of 10), and breastfeeding mothers and cadres were able to redemonstrate the SOS breastfeeding technique according to the guidelines. To maximize the results of the training, this activity requires ongoing cooperation between families with breastfeeding mothers, cadres, and regional midwives, to continue to improve the support system and interest in breastfeeding until the child is 2 years old.

Abstract

The continuous availability of forage throughout the year, both in quality and quantity, is an absolute requirement for livestock development. Forage that is abundant during the rainy season must be processed by preserving it so that the nutritional quality of the forage remains guaranteed. One technology for processing feed using preservation techniques is making silage. Making silage is done to preserve and minimize nutrient loss and can also improve feed nutrition. The main problem faced by goat farming groups in West Lengkosambi Village, Riung District, Ngada Regency, is the provision of quality and continuous feed. To increase breeders' knowledge about making goat feed using the silage process, it is necessary to provide training to breeders in Lengkosambi Barat Village, Riung District, Ngada Regency. This training activity was carried out on 11-12 October 2024. 57 participants attended the silage-making training. Participants' enthusiasm was very high when taking part in the silage-making training. Participants have the willingness to play an active role in making silage. This activity concludes that the training carried out was able to increase the knowledge and skills of members of the West Lengkosambi Village goat farming group regarding the benefits and techniques for making silage and its use as goat feed. Providing quality feed during the dry season can be overcome so that livestock growth and production levels will be achieved optimally.
