Abstract

Red chilies are a horticultural commodity that is susceptible to damage, resulting in a decrease in product quality. The decline in the quality of chilies after harvest occurs due to the ongoing respiration process, so that the chilies wilt (dry) or rot. Other damage to chilies can also occur due to rotting caused by microbes. Therefore, the red chilies produced by the Samarasa farmer group have been directly sold or used by themselves. If the harvest is large in quantity, it will be sold at a cheaper price. This is done because it is feared that red chili harvest products that are stored for a long time will rot and become unsellable. This service activity aims to provide training and assistance regarding post-harvest handling of red chilies so that they can improve their quality and make their shelf life longer. Several stages of service activities carried out include coordination with partners, post-harvest handling training, discussion and evaluation. This activity went well and smoothly. Evaluation results from questionnaires filled out by participants showed an increase in farmers' knowledge and skills regarding how to handle post-harvest red chilies with an increase of 24% and 12% respectively after attending the training.

Abstract

Oyster mushroom is one of the important agricultural commodities cultivated by the community, especially in Kondang Jaya village, East Karawang District, Karawang Regency, West Java. In the hamlet of Griya Kondang Asri, Kondang Jaya village, oyster mushroom cultivation is carried out to empower women who are accommodated by the Berkah Farmer Women Group which has 20 local MSME groups. However, the implementation of mushroom cultivation is still not optimal because there are still many problems related to cultivation and there is no innovation in the management of oyster mushroom products, so people only sell oyster mushrooms in a fresh condition without packaging. Therefore, this service must be carried out. This activity aims to provide insight to the group of women farmers about mastering mushroom cultivation techniques, improving skills in creating and innovating nuggets and mushroom chips, as well as skills in making packaging designs, to increase the selling value of mushroom cultivation products of the Women Farmers Group. This activity was carried out using the Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) method. The result of the implementation of the service is an increase in the knowledge and skills of farmer group partners in utilizing mushroom crops in the diversification of products with high economic value.

Abstract

Lamongan Hydroponic Farm's vegetable farming has a lot of potential, however managing humidity and temperature is a problem. While farmers there have been successful in creating fruitful hydroponic gardens, they struggle to keep the ideal growing environment. Severe temperature and humidity swings have an impact on harvest quality and raise production costs. The community service team suggested using solar energy and ultrasonic mist maker technologies to solve this issue. It is anticipated that this technology will lower operating costs, produce the perfect atmosphere for plant growth, and automatically control the amount of water in the air. Lamongan hydroponic farming may therefore be more productive and long-lasting. Lamongan Hydroponic Farm's community service program is implemented through the following phases: socializing, training, technology application, mentorship, and program sustainability evaluation. Two key technologies were developed as a result of this process: smart agricultural knowledge and ultrasonic mist makers with IoT and solar panel systems attached. According to the evaluation results, the three pretest and posttest questionnaires received resulted in an average improvement in partner knowledge from 49% to 74%.

Abstract

This Community Service Program aimed to address the challenges faced by farmers in Cikurubuk Village, Sumedang Regency, in marketing their organic rice products. The farmers' limited knowledge of digital marketing and their reliance on traditional methods restricted their market reach and competitiveness. The program aims to enhance farmers’ digital skills by teaching them how to effectively use e-commerce platforms and optimize their branding strategies. The method included three stages: a survey to identify the needs and challenges of the community, training sessions on digital marketing, visual content creation, and branding, followed by mentoring to support participants in implementing these skills. The survey highlighted a significant gap in digital literacy, while the training provided practical knowledge on managing online stores, creating visually appealing product content, and developing strong product branding. Ongoing mentoring helped participants apply these skills effectively in their businesses. The results show that participants demonstrated significant improvements in utilizing digital platforms, enhancing their brand visibility, and attracting more consumers, both locally and nationally. The program led to a notable increase in product visibility and sales, boosting the economic potential of the farmers' businesses. In conclusion, this program successfully empowered local farmers by expanding their knowledge of digital technology and e-commerce, thereby improving their market reach and product competitiveness. This initiative has positively impacted the economic development of Cikurubuk Village and could serve as a model for similar community empowerment programs. It is hoped that this program will inspire other villages to develop by optimizing digital technology to market their regional products

Abstract

Koya is one of the agricultural areas in the Jayapura region, Papua Province. It is expected to become a hub for horticultural crops in Papua. However, the current agricultural system needs improvement by utilizing liquid organic fertilizer known as MoL (Microorganism Local) or biofertilizer, which is environmentally friendly. The main ingredients of MoL are banana stems and corm, and coconut water is used as a substitute for water in the mixture. The goal of this community assistance project is to introduce MoL as an eco-friendly organic fertilizer with significant benefits for soil, plants, and human health. This activity was conducted in three stages: mediation and survey, socialization, and assistance in making MoL from banana stems and corm. The results showed a positive response from the farming community in Koya Koso, who adopted the organic and environmentally friendly farming system. The organic fertilizer is affordable and easy to make domestically. Further activities are recommended to apply MoL to vegetable crops cultivated by farmers in Koya Koso.

Abstract

Stunting is a critical global health issue, with Indonesia experiencing high prevalence rates, particularly in regions like West Kalimantan, where the rate reached 26.6% in 2018. Despite some progress in reducing stunting rates, urgent interventions are necessary, particularly through government initiatives focused on improving nutritional status among pregnant women and young children, as well as comprehensive nutritional education programs to raise awareness and promote healthier dietary practices. The purpose of this community service activity is to enhance the knowledge of mothers with toddlers and improve their dietary intake, particularly focusing on foods rich in calcium to support the physical growth of children. The study utilized a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, specifically a pretest-posttest format without a control group, to assess the impact of educational interventions on mothers' knowledge of stunting and calcium-rich foods. Participants included 25 mothers of toddlers from Posyandu Berdikari, who were engaged through interactive lectures and cooking demonstrations over two months. Knowledge was measured using pretest and posttest questionnaires, while satisfaction with food products was evaluated through a 5-point Likert scale. Data analysis included the Wilcoxon Rank Test for knowledge changes and descriptive statistics to assess satisfaction and organoleptic preferences. The community service program resulted in a significant increase in knowledge among 19 out of 25 respondents, with an average improvement of 25 points and statistical significance (P = 0.00). Additionally, 80% of participants expressed high satisfaction with the calcium-rich Nugget products, while 96% of mothers felt prepared to practice the PMT recipes at home. This indicates a positive impact on both knowledge and acceptance of nutritional education and products. The nutrition education program significantly improved mothers' knowledge about stunting, leading to high satisfaction with calcium-rich products and readiness to implement PMT recipes at home.

Abstract

The Yang Faulinas II fish farming group from Cipadang Village, Gedong Tataan District, Pesawaran, specializes in catfish farming. However, they frequently face challenges related to water quality, waste management, and rising feed costs. A community service initiative was conducted to address these issues by sharing knowledge and implementing the Bio-Integrated Farming System, which combines aquaponic and biofloc technologies. This system aims to improve water quality and feed efficiency, offering farmers a solution to enhance production while also generating additional income from vegetable cultivation. The integration of aquaponics with the biofloc system allows fish farming and vegetable growing to work together, with plants placed above the biofloc tanks. The methods used in this initiative included lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice. As a result, the participants' knowledge increased by 40%, demonstrating that the adoption of appropriate technology provides a valuable solution and opportunity for fish farmers and communities to grow their businesses and boost production.
