Abstract

Studi perihal maksud penutur dalam cyberpragmatics perlu terus digelorakan karena konteks konvensional dalam berkomunikasi di era teknologi informasi telah bergeser dan berubah wujud menjadi konteks siberteks berdimensi multimodalitas. Konteks siberteks berdimensi multimodalitas ini tidak lepas dari kehadiran teknologi internet dalam berbagai bidang sebagai wujud nyata dari perkembangan budaya masyarakat digital. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan peran konteks siberteks visual sebagai pengungkap maksud yang paling dominan dalam kajian cyberpragmatics berperspektif multimodal sosio-semiotik (Kress & Leeuwen, 2011). Penelitian ini berjenis deskriptif-kualitatif. Teori yang dijadikan dasar penelitian konteks siberteks visual ini adalah teori makna pragmatik, cyberpragmatics, dan multimodalitas sosio-semiotik. Data penelitian berupa teks-teks siber berdimensi visual dalam berbagai jenis media sosial yang memiliki wujud konteks siberteks visual sebagai pengungkap maksud penutur. Metode pengumpulan data yang diterapkan adalah metode simak dengan teknik baca-catat. Metode analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah metode analisis padan ekstralingual. Teknik yang diterapkan untuk menganalisis data adalah teknik hubung banding. Langkah terakhir tahapan analisis data adalah pemaknaan atau interpretasi yang selanjutnya disajikan dengan metode informal. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa konteks siberteks visual memiliki peran yang paling dominan sebagai wahana pengungkap maksud penutur dalam berkomunikasi di media sosial. Sebagai pengungkap maksud yang paling diminan, konteks siberteks visual tersebut memerankan fungsi-fungsi berikut: (1) memperjelas maksud tuturan; (2) mempertegas maksud tuturan; (3) melatarbelakangi maksud tuturan; (4) mendukung maksud tuturan; (5) memerinci maksud tuturan.

Abstract

This study investigated Indonesian school-age children’s written narratives of their experiences involving happy and sad emotions. A question addressed in this study is: do different themes influence the composition of the components in the narratives? This study aimed to explain the children’s ability to produce narratives in written forms by focusing on the structures and comparing the components of the narratives on two experiences, applying Labov & Waletzky’s (1997) narrative components. The participants were elementary school students, aged 8–11 years (N = 131). All the children were assigned two writing tasks: one on a happy and one on a sad experience. Differences in themes in narratives were examined quantitatively. We identified the components of the narratives and classified them into complete, incomplete, complex, singular, and plural narratives. It was found that the children could already write cohesive stories, but some skipped certain components of the narratives. Differences between the stories were found in the number of clauses and the components.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendokumentasikan nama-nama dukuh di setiap dusun yang ada di desa Gadingrejo, mendeskripsikan proses pembentukan nama-nama dukuh secara morfologis, serta mengkategorikan nama-nama dukuh berdasarkan aspek penamaannya. Data penelitian kualitatif ini dikumpulkan dengan cara observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori morfologi Kridalaksana (2007) dan aspek toponimi Sudaryat, dkk. (2009). Hasil penelitian berupa terdokumentasikannya nama-nama dukuh yang ada di Desa Gadingrejo, yaitu sebanyak 45 dukuh yang berada di enam dusun. Proses morfologi yang ditemukan pada pembentukan nama dukuh di desa Gadingrejo ada lima macam, yaitu derivasi zero, afiksasi, reduplikasi, abreviasi, dan komposisi. Pembentukan nama dukuh didasarkan pada aspek perwujudan, kemasyarakatan, dan kebudayaan.

Abstract

Kajian terhadap penalaran anak usia dini erat kaitannya dengan perkembangan metakognisi anak. Anak yang kuat mengemukakan argumennya dalam berkomunikasi biasanya mempunyai kemampuan metakognitif yang tinggi. Kajian mengenai hal ini masih sangat jarang ditemukan di Indonesia berdasarkan penelusuran peneliti dari berbagai sumber referensi yang dapat diakses. Sementara itu, argumen-argumen tersebut mendesak untuk dideskripsikan mengingat keterkaitannya dengan perkembangan metakognitif anak muda sebagai generasi penerus bangsa. Berdasarkan asumsi tersebut maka dilakukan penelitian terhadap argumentasi anak usia dini. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan dominasi tipe argumentasi pada anak usia dini. Perspektif teoritis yang digunakan adalah teori argumen Stephen Toulmin. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian studi kasus. Studi kasus ini menempatkan Dicto dan Ivo sebagai subjek penelitian ini. Kedua anak kecil tersebut berjenis kelamin laki-laki, Dicto berusia 4 tahun berlatar belakang etnis Sunda, sedangkan Ivo berusia 6 tahun berlatar belakang etnis Jawa. Data penelitian ini berupa tuturan argumentatif berupa sejumlah klaim yang merupakan tanggapan terhadap situasi yang dikonstruksikan peneliti sebagai instrumen penelitiannya. Peneliti menganalisis transkripsi teks video atau audio yang berisi tanggapan spontan terhadap situasi yang dikonstruksi oleh peneliti dan disampaikan kepada kedua subjek penelitian melalui orang tuanya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tipe argumentasi yang dominan pada anak usia dini adalah tipe Claim + Ground.

Abstract

In academic writing, first-person pronouns not only replace the author’s name but also stand out as significant elements of traditional conventions. Consequently, an ongoing debate exists among scholars regarding the permissibility of specific first-person pronouns in certain disciplines. Despite extensive research both supporting and opposing the permissibility of specific first-person pronouns, more empirical evidence is needed, particularly in the fields of chemistry and language studies. This study examines the usage of first-person plural pronouns in English (we, our, and us) and Indonesian (kami, kita) and their clusivity in 40 research articles published by The Modern Language Journal, Nature Chemistry Journal, Litera Journal, and Alchemy Journal in the range 2021 to 2023. This research aims to highlight differences in how authors from diverse disciplines—chemistry and language studies—situate themselves in academic writing. To achieve this, we constructed two specialized corpora: the English Corpus of Language Studies and Chemistry (Encolanche) and the Indonesian Corpus of Language Studies and Chemistry (Indolanche). We utilized Sketch Engine, an online tool facilitating word listing and concordance, for inspection during the research process. A qualitative analysis explored clusivity and the author’s identity expressed through each linguistic form. Classification of authorial identities followed a taxonomy proposed by Martín (2003). Our results reveal frequent use of the pronoun we in Encolanche, with exclusive clusivity primarily employed to express the author as the experiment conductor. In contrast, Indolanche exhibits infrequent use of personal pronouns.

Abstract

English This study applies linguistic landscape theory to analyze the language usage on cultural heritage information boards in Surabaya. It also explores the communication obstacles that impede tourists from accessing heritage sites. A total of 63 images were selected from a collection of 277 photographs using qualitative descriptive methodologies and photographic techniques. These images effectively depict various landscapes and cultural heritage places. The dataset classified media into categories such as road signs, name signboards, information boards, cultural heritage plaques, and establishment plaques. Indonesian is the dominant language, representing the country's sovereignty, but English is used for international tourists. The historical identity of Surabaya is represented by Dutch, Japanese, and Latin influences. Although the language environment is favorable, there are still difficulties in tourism communication due to insufficient information, unreadable text, and media that is not easily available at heritage sites. This study highlights the importance of enhancing signpost design to improve tourist experiences and effectively communicate heritage tourism by making use of language variety Indonesia Penelitian ini menerapkan teori lanskap linguistik untuk menganalisis penggunaan bahasa pada papan informasi warisan budaya di Surabaya. Laporan ini juga mengeksplorasi hambatan komunikasi yang menghalangi wisatawan mengakses situs warisan budaya. Sebanyak 63 gambar dipilih dari koleksi 277 foto dengan menggunakan metodologi deskriptif kualitatif dan teknik fotografi. Gambar-gambar ini secara efektif menggambarkan berbagai lanskap dan tempat warisan budaya. Kumpulan data tersebut mengklasifikasikan media ke dalam beberapa kategori seperti rambu jalan, papan nama, papan informasi, plakat warisan budaya, dan plakat pendirian. Bahasa Indonesia merupakan bahasa dominan yang mewakili kedaulatan negara, namun bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk wisatawan internasional. Identitas historis Surabaya diwakili oleh pengaruh Belanda, Jepang, dan Latin. Meskipun lingkungan bahasa mendukung, masih terdapat kesulitan dalam komunikasi pariwisata karena kurangnya informasi, teks yang tidak dapat dibaca, dan media yang tidak mudah didapat di situs warisan. Abstract

This paper discusses two different attributive possessive constructions in Pagu, a West Papuan language spoken in Halmahera. They can be categorized into double and single marking. Semantically, the former construction allows only human possessor, while the latter both non-human and human – with a restricted use for human on the core kinship relations only. The paper also discusses the definiteness of the possessor or possessee in each construction, which I argue result from the familiarity of both the possessor-possessee after being introduced in the discourse. It also allows either the possessor or the possessee to occur alone. The structure of each of the constructions will be presented in the Role and Reference Grammar’s Layered Structure of the Noun Phrase. It will help us see the functions of each possessive marker and the relation between the possessor and possessee.

Abstract

This study is concerned with the effect of globalization on language usage, especially in the context of the Indonesian workplace. Within the context of international workplaces where employees often use English to communicate with their foreign colleagues, the researchers found that Indonesian addressing terms such as Pak or Bu are often mixed in with English. This study considers this phenomenon typical in high language contact situations; and sees the mixing of some Indonesian in the English spoken in Indonesia as a distinct characteristic of the localized English used in the country. Specific patterns and motivations for such mixing of the Indonesian addressing terms in the local English may uncover certain identity expressions by Indonesians as a reaction to globalization. To explore these issues, interviews were conducted with employees of international workplaces in Indonesia to determine: (i) different motivations for mixing Indonesian addressing terms in the local English, and (ii) what the different motivations may reveal about the identities of different Indonesian speakers. Results from the interview reveal that the use of Indonesian addressing terms and the related speakers’ identities are largely dependent on social class.

Abstract

This study examines the morphosemantic features of Indonesian light verb constructions (LVCs) that utilize the light verb memenuhi. LVCs are a common linguistic feature in Indonesian, consisting of a light verb and a noun that gives the construction a specific meaning. Using a corpus-based approach, this study analyzed LVCs with memenuhi from the Indonesian - Leipzig Corpora Collection (ILCC). This analysis focused on the semantic and syntactic properties of these constructions. The findings indicate that memenuhi is crucial in assigning specific meanings to LVCs. This study identified, at least, four semantic patterns: (1) /memenuhi/ + noun denoting ‘requirements’ or ‘expectations’, (2) /memenuhi/ + noun denoting ‘goals’ or ‘objectives’, (3) /memenuhi/ + noun denoting ‘obligations’ or ‘duties’, and (4) /memenuhi/ + noun denoting ‘situations’ or ‘encounters’. The first semantic pattern can occur in constructions such as /memenuhi kriteria/ ‘meet a criterion’ (-occurrence: 89.100). The second semantic pattern can occur in constructions such as /memenuhi target/ ‘meet a target’ (-occurrence: 47.931). The third semantic pattern can also occur in constructions such as /memenuhi janji/ ‘fulfill a promise’ (-occurrence: 8.238). Lastly, the fourth semantic pattern can occur in constructions such as /memenuhi panggilan/ ‘answer the call’ (-occurrence: 69.672). Syntactically, LVCs with memenuhi exhibit a range of structures, including transitive, intransitive, and ditransitive constructions. Among these three structures, there are at least three thematic relationships that can be found, namely agent, patient, and beneficiary. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the role of light verbs in shaping the meaning of LVCs in Indonesian.
