Negative effects of chemical pesticides experienced by farmers have encouraged researchers to develop bioinsectiscide. Beauveria bassiana is one of entomopatogen fungus that may be used as an active compound of mycoinsecticide. The main constraint of this mycoinsecticide is retaining the viability of Beauveria bassiana propagules. The encapsulation of active propagule of Beauveria bassiana using sodium alginate and corn starch was studied in this experiment. The aim is to get the formula of mycoinsecticide with a high viable propagules contain for long storage period. Liquid fermentation were proceed to produce active biomass of Beauveria bassiana, followed by encapsulation using sodium alginate (Formula I) and corn starch (Formula II). After encapsulation and the 1st, 2nd, and 3th Week of storage in room temperature, viability test was carried out. The result showed that Formula I and II were able to immobilize effectively, but the number of viable propagule was slightly reduced. The number of viable propagule of Beauveria bassiana in Formula I and ll after three Weeks storage was 8.75 x 106 cfu/g and 6.13 x 106 cfu/g respectively. It can be concluded that encapsulation using sodium alginate and corn starch could retain propagule of Beauveria bassiana in viable number.

Plants can be sources of immunomodulatory agents. Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav. (red betel) leaves have been used to heal many diseases, especially to increase endurance. The aim of this research was to investigate the imunomodulatory effect of methanolic leaf extracts of Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav. and its fractions by in vitro phagocytic macrophage activity test. The result showed that methanolic extract of Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav. 75μg/mL could stimulate phagocytic macrophage activity equal to 100μg/mL product-X® that contained Echinacea extract. Separation of the extract by vacuum liquid chromatography using gradient solvent n-hexane - ethyl acetate yielded 5 fractions. The second fraction showed the highest activity. It contained alkaloid and terpenoid, while the extract also contained flavonoid and essential oil. Alkaloid and/or terpenoid could be the compound in the leaves of Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav. that responsible increasing phagocytic macrophage activity.

Black pepper (Piperis nigri fructus) has been empirically used to eliminate fatigue and to increase stamina or as stimulant. The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of black pepper infuse as stimulant on 30 male DDY mice using swimming and rotarod methods. The mice were divided into five groups. First group was given distilled water as control, second group was given caffeine of 0.36 mg/20 g bw. The other three groups were given orally with black pepper infuse of 0.32 mg/20 g bw, 0.65 mg/20 g bw, or 1.3 mg/20 g bw. Observations on mice swimming endurance and mice endurance on a rotarod, were carried out 60 minutes after oral administration of the solutions. Analysis using Kruskal-Wallis showed that there was significant difference in the stimulant efficacy between the black pepper infuse and the negative control (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in stimulant effect between the 0.32 mg/20 g bw of black pepper infuse and the caffeine positive control, however, the infuse dose of 0.65 mg/20 g bw and 1.3 mg/20 g bw have demonstrated stronger stimulant effects (p>0.05) as compared to the caffeine positive control.

Xylan is one of the most important components of hemicelluloses, which could be enzimatically hydrolized by xylanolytic enzymes. One of the xylanase producing fungi is Trichoderma harzianum, which growth in a medium requires sufficient nutrient, such as Carbon, Nitrogen, microelements and vitamins. Xylan as a polysaccharide could be used as Carbon source in a growth medium of T. harzianum. The purpose of this experiment is to assess the growth ability of T. harzianum in a medium with xylan as a sole Carbon source. Three media are tested in this experiment, i.e. Medium I, Medium II, and Medium III. The result shows that the best growth of T. harzianum is obtained in Medium III, followed by Medium II and then Medium I. The best medium pH is neutral (+7) to mild acidic (6.2).

Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious disesase in the world. According to the WHO, it is estimated more than 3 million people die every year as a result of this infectious disease. One factor that causes diffi culty handling TB chemoteraphy is not effective against the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis that causes TB . Effectiveness of treatment is often hampered by the emergence of bacterial resistance against M. Tuberculosis chemotherapy agents are given. From some research found that bacterial resistance may occur in more one type of chemotherapy agent also known as multi-drug resistance (MDR). Mycobacterium tuberculosis develop resistance mechanisms that are different from other bacteria in general. In prokaryotes, resistance is generally due to the transfer of genetic, either through plasmids, transposons and other. Reference sequence beta sub unit of RNAP protein M. Tuberculosis with accession number NP_215181.1 and M. tucerculosis rpoB gene with accession number NC_000962.3 used to obtain preliminary information from the data base www.ncbi.nlm.gov and www.uniprot.org . Mutation done according to several studies literature. Analysis of the composition, profi le, location and structure of protein using www.expasy.org, TMHMM and http://bioinf.cs.ucl.ac.uk/psipred. The primer design is done with Primer Design Program. Based on the analysis of mutation in the beta subunit of RNAP protein M. Tuberculosis, codon 531 (Ser ->Leu), it is known that mutations cause changes in some properties and structure of proteins. Possible changes affecting the nature of bacterial resistance to antibiotics rifampicin. However, further analysis needs to be done with the analysis of the docking technique.

Quinine intravenous for severe malaria and complications, is recommended until the patient is able to use the oral formulation. The purpose of this study was to monitor the side effects that arise during the administration of quinine in malaria patients in Bontang Public Hospital and evaluate the use of other drugs that may increase the incidence of quinine side effects. This study was conducted by using descriptive study design. Monitoring of side effects is based on qualitative data, through clinical observation before and after the patients received the drug. The events of side effects were evaluated from the data collectedby usingNaranjo algorithm to determine possible (score 1-4), probable (score 5-8) and certainty (definite) (score 9). From the study, it is found that 32 patients (88.89 %) experienced quinine side effects, 2 patients (5.55 %) did not experience significant side effects. 7 patients (19.44 %) were using cimetidin, 6 patients (16.67 %) had more than 2 side effects. Possible influence of cimetidine on the clearance of quinine that cause the increase of quinine levels in the blood may increase the risk of the events of quinine side effects.
