Abstract

Today, multicultural counseling to be one of the most efficacy and effective helping professionals services in helping counselees achieve positive changes. But, critical question is what makes efficacy and effectiveness of multicultural counseling? The purpose of this study is to explore of the factors affecting the efficacy and effectiveness of multicultural counseling. This study used survey method. The participant included 30 pre-service counselor educators (master’s students) from Department of Guidance and Counseling in Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Data were collected using questionnaire that is Common Factors in Multicultural Counseling Scale in the form of Likert five-level scale. The data were analyzed with exploratory factor analysis. The results showed that there are two factors affecting the efficacy and effectiveness of multicultural counseling in the perspectives of pre-service counselor educators, named: (1) specific factors, such as: counseling approach and techniques and multicultural counseling competencies; and (2) common factors, such as: person of the counselor (wisdom) and counseling alliance. The implication is that counselor educators need to consider and develop these factors in Counselor Education and Supervision programs.

Abstract

This research was aimed to see the research trend psychological flexibility last ten years. The literature review investigated research trend published in international journals, method in research problems, research method, and result of the research. Therefore, the researcher hope this research can contribute positively to the development of guidance and counseling faculty and can be one of the research development sources in the implementation of guidance and counseling services.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the concept of self-awareness analyzed from several theoretical perspectives. This analysis is intended to form a synthesis as a comprehensive definition including the essence, aspects and indicators of self-awareness. The method used is descriptive analysis of various theories with a literature review approach. The results of this analysis will serve as a basis in the preparation of instruments which are expected to have a high level of validity to measure aspects of self-awareness that are more comprehensive in accordance with the context and situation at the present time.

Abstract

Guidance and counselling is a service that all human beings need at one point of their life. There is no human being that has never got a problem at one point or another. Guidance counselling is a noble profession whose importance in the educational system of Nigeria is becoming increasingly recognized by the country’s educational planners and policy makers. Ideally a well-trained school counsellor should be available in each institution in the federation to deal with various aspects of students’ problems and this presupposes the establishment of school guidance and counselling from the primary up to the tertiary levels. The essentials services expected of guidance counsellor in schools was highlighted and the means through which guidance programmes could be enhanced for effective service delivery in Nigerian secondary schools were expatiated. The process involves putting the prevailing situation in proper perspective by identifying the challenges and counselling is a problems solver. The role of the counsellor is to coordinate all the school guidance personnel in order to achieve effective guidance and by extension, the school objectives. The paper however, recommended that guidance service should be integrated into the primary school curriculum and be taught as a class subject and that administration of each institution provides critical leadership and conducive work environment to accommodate the kind of flexible work schedule and organizing regular workshops, seminars and conferences for stakeholders in guidance and counselling.

Abstract

The aims of this study was to find the ideal personal values of the counselor based on the isen mulang philosophy of the Dayak tribe. The research method used is qualitative where researchers act as key instruments, data collection techniques are interviews, observation and documentation studies. The results of the study are that the isen mulang philosophy contains four main values, namely the value of struggle, the value of heroism, the value of sacrifice, and the value of spirit never giving up. The four elements of the isen mulang values are implemented by counselors in everyday life to form an ideal personal competence of the counselor.

Abstract

The Korean wave cultural conformity that occurred in early adolescents was triggered because of a close relationship in friendship which made him adjust his behaviour with his peer group. This study aims to describe empirically the relationship of peer attachment with Korean wave culture conformity of students. The research uses a quantitative approach with correlational methods. The samples used were saturation samples, namely all students of class 7th grade SMP Negeri 44 Bandung Academic Year 2018/2019 who enjoyed Korean wave culture in the form of Korean pop and Korean drama totalling 88 people. Data collection techniques using peer attachment instruments adapted from the inventory of parents and peer attachment-revised and the Korean wave cultural conformity instruments developed by researchers. The results showed that in general, the peer attachment of students was in the category of secure attachment and Korean wave cultural conformity of students was in the category of obedience. This study recommends basic group guidance services that can improve the achievement of peer attachments and can reduce the Korean wave cultural conformity of students.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to conceptually and empirically analyze cultural intelligence from a variety of perspectives. Intensive conceptual and empirical studies of the trends in the dynamics of cultural intelligence in the perspective of the fields of psychology, sociology and organization are the research methods used. This paper is expected to contribute to the development of science in the field of multicultural services, especially cross-cultural guidance and counselling services. This paper is then expected to be one of the treasures of developing multicultural competencies in the implementation of guidance and counselling services.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the development of a culture of peace through a local wisdom-based peace education program Nosarara Nosabatutu. Nosarara Nosabatu is a Kaili ethnic local wisdom, in the city of Palu, Central Sulawesi, with the main concept being peacein society through a spirit of brotherhood, togetherness, unity and unity, family, and peace. Nosarara Nosabatu needs to be implemented in educational programs for young people, especially for students in schools, in order to build a culture of peace in the people of Palu. This article uses the library research method. The research findings are: 1) the values of peace in the local wisdom of Nosarara Nosabatutu; and 2) the prospect of developing guidance and counseling based on local wisdom Nosarara Nosabatutu to develop a culture of peace in the School.

Abstract

Issues of intolerance in Indonesia, even involving children, have become the concerns of all related agencies, particularly those in children?s education. Although character building has been mainstreamed in the national education system, little is known how preschool teachers contribute to the nurturance of tolerant young children as future global citizens. This study explores priority sustainable character values and their building strategies in counselling practices of pre-school teachers in West Java Province of Indonesia. Analysis of questionnaire, classroom observation and interview results by criteria of Global Citizenship Education (UNESCO, 2017) and character education in the 21st century of Bialik, Bogan, Fadel and Horvathova (2015) show that counselling topics of the participating teachers have included sustainable values of global partnership, independence, nationalism, integrity, and religiosity exercised through individual and team works. By involving social agencies such as parents, principals, and religious leaders, teachers involved their students in various characterbuilding activities. The study also recommends more detail indicators and activities for teachers to improve their students? sense of tolerance as future global citizens.

Abstract

The background of this study is to research the relationship between celebrity worship and body image among student who likes K-pop. Celebrity worship is a phenomenon of individual admission to a celebrity and body image is individual perception of the state ofthe body. The research intends to describe the relationship between celebrity worship and body image adolescents who idolize K-pop at SMP Negeri 45 Bandung. The approach used in this research is a quantitative and correlational method. The participants are 111 adolescents who idolize K-pop, using purposive sampling. Data in this research collected using an instrument of celebrity worship and body image. processing data using the Rasch model in the winstep application. The result of this research signifies the celebrity worship in the moderate category with a percentage of 43,24%, body image in the positive category with a percentage of 56,8%, and there was a quite negatively significant relationship between celebrity worship and body image. The result of this research are recommendations for school counsellors and future researcher.
