Abstract

Outdoor learning, a pedagogical approach conducted outside traditional classroom settings, leverages natural environments to enhance educational experiences. This study examines the efforts of the Sidoarjo District Education and Culture Department in addressing challenges to implementing outdoor learning in primary schools and improving its overall quality. As a descriptive qualitative research method, data were collected through snowball sampling, in-depth interviews, documentation, and observations. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model, encompassing data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the department has adopted several strategies to optimize outdoor learning, including meticulous planning of logistics and activities, attentive oversight, enforcement of compliance through sanctions, provision of necessary facilities, and continuous monitoring of participating schools. These efforts aim to overcome logistical and interpretative challenges, ensuring outdoor learning is impactful and aligned with educational objectives. The study highlights the potential of outdoor learning to foster holistic student development and recommends further standardization, educator training, and collaboration with local communities to enhance its implementation.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of transformational leadership on organizational performance through a bibliometric analysis. The aim is to understand how transformational leadership can address challenges faced by educational institutions, enhance innovation, and align practices with global trends while respecting the cultural values of Islamic education. Using VOSviewer software and data from Scopus and Google Scholar, this research systematically evaluates 77 articles published from 2014 to 2024. The findings highlight a significant increase in the literature on transformational leadership, with a focus on key leadership behaviours such as vision articulation, inspirational communication, and intellectual stimulation. These behaviours are strongly linked to improved organizational outcomes, including higher student enrolment in universities and greater institutional commitment. The study underscores the role of transformational leadership in fostering a positive, collaborative culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement. The implications for educational leaders include the adoption of transformational leadership to improve organizational performance in response to evolving educational demands. Further research is recommended to explore the applicability of these findings in different educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze the management of the Early Career Lecturer Competency Improvement Program (PKDP) in fostering the professionalism of faculty members within the Directorate of Islamic Higher Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The focus of the analysis is on three key aspects of program management: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, wherein the researcher provides an in-depth exploration of the phenomenon under study. Data collection methods employed include observations, interviews, and document analysis. The collected data are processed through stages of data condensation, presentation, and conclusion drawing. To ensure data credibility, triangulation of sources and techniques is utilized. The findings indicate that the management of the PKDP for improving the competence of novice lecturers involves: (1) Planning, which is coordinated through meetings between government representatives and participating universities; (2) Implementation, which comprises two primary activities: the In-Service Course and On-the-Job Course; and (3) Evaluation, which is conducted through surveys and reporting mechanisms aimed at refining and enhancing the program for future iterations

Abstract

This research conducts a juridical analysis of the Full Day School (FDS) policy in Indonesia, focusing on its impact on teacher welfare and children's rights. The primary objective is to evaluate how the policy aligns with legal frameworks such as Law Number 14 of 2005 on Teachers and Lecturers and Law Number 35 of 2014 on Child Protection. This study utilizes an analysis of specific legal documents and policy regulations, including Ministerial Regulation Number 23 of 2017 on School Days and Presidential Regulation Number 87 of 2017 on Strengthening Character Education. The findings indicate that the policy’s extended school hours may infringe upon children’s rights to rest and play, as guaranteed under Law Number 35 of 2014, and exacerbate teacher workloads, potentially conflicting with labour rights under Law Number 13 of 2003. Teachers report heightened stress and reduced work-life balance, while students face mental fatigue and diminished extracurricular opportunities. To comply with legal mandates and international conventions such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the policy must be revised to balance instructional goals with the well-being of both educators and learners. Recommendations include reducing school hours, ensuring adequate rest periods, and aligning the policy with legal and international standards. Further exploration of the policy's long-term legal and social implications is essential for sustainable educational reform.

Abstract

This study explores the potential of Dusun Bengkung's local resources to develop Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM)-based educational activities aimed at enhancing literacy and creativity among school-aged children. Employing a qualitative case study methodology, data were gathered through focus group discussions (FGDs) involving 15 community stakeholders and document analysis. The findings reveal three key local potentials: (1) strong social collaboration rooted in the village's cultural traditions, (2) abundant natural resources such as bamboo, rice, and fishponds, and (3) a substantial demographic of school-aged children eager for creative engagement. STEAM activities tailored to these local resources included bamboo-based string art, water filtration techniques, and natural dyeing using local plants. The Taman Bacaan Masyarakat (Community Reading Center) Pelopor Literasi Dusunku and its associated Rumah Belajar (Learning House) served as central hubs for facilitating these activities, supported by thematic community service programs and literacy initiatives aligned with the National Literacy Movement. The study highlights the impact of integrating local wisdom into STEAM education to foster literacy, creativity, and cultural sustainability. However, its focus on a single rural community limits generalizability. Future research should investigate the scalability of such models across diverse cultural and ecological contexts. Additionally, integrating digital tools into these localized frameworks offers opportunities for advancing digital literacy in rural education.

Abstract

This study critically analyzes the implementation of competency-based human resource development (HRD) practices among educators (asatidzah) in Salafiyah Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia’s Riau Islands. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were obtained through interviews, participant observations, document analysis, and focus group discussions across three pesantren. The analysis reveals persistent gaps in pedagogical, social, personal, and professional competencies despite the educators’ strong foundation in religious knowledge. HRD initiatives are found to be fragmented, lacking systematic planning, evaluation mechanisms, and alignment with contemporary educational standards. These findings indicate an urgent need for structured, contextually relevant HRD strategies that are both sustainable and responsive to the dual imperatives of Islamic education and modern pedagogical demands. This study contributes to the discourse on educational capacity building in Islamic institutions and calls for future research using mixed-method or longitudinal approaches to examine the systemic effects of competency-based HRD interventions.
