Abstract

Self-disclosure, the act of revealing personal thoughts and emotions to others, is crucial in interpersonal communication. This study investigates the interplay between narcissistic tendencies, the need for affiliation, and self-disclosure among Instagram-utilizing college students. The sample consisted of 93 students selected through purposive sampling. Measurement tools included scales for self-disclosure, narcissistic tendencies, and affiliation needs. The data was analyzed using multiple regression facilitated by JASP software version 0.16.1.0 for Windows. The findings revealed significant associations between narcissistic tendencies, the need for affiliation, and self-disclosure. Specifically, narcissistic tendencies correlated with self-disclosure, yielding a coefficient of (rx1-y) = 0.582 and P < 0.001, contributing to 25.54% of the variance. Furthermore, the need for affiliation demonstrated a relationship with self-disclosure, with a coefficient of (rx2-y) = 0.504 and P < 0.001, contributing to 11.34% of the variance.

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the influence of pathological narcissism, indecent dressing, and learned helplessness on the experience of sexual harassment among students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Nigeria. The study adopted the correlational research design and was guided by three research questions. It involved 284 undergraduate students between the ages of 16 and 21 who were selected through stratified random sampling using the stratum of faculty. Pathological Narcissism Inventory (α=.94), The Learned Helplessness Scale (α=.91) Indecent Dressing Measure (α=.90) and Sexual Harassment Scale (α=.88) were used as measuring instruments. The data were analysed using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation and multiple regression. The results showed that narcissistic (r(284)= .372; p<1), narcissistic vulnerability (r(284)= .339; p<1), indecent dressing(r(284)= .408 p<1), and learned helplessness (r(284)= .314 p<1) positively correlated with sexual harassment. The three main predictor variables together accounted for 31% of the total variance in sexual harassment (F(4,283) = 32.858; R= .566; R2= .320; Adj. R2=.310; P<.01). In addition, the three independent variables individualistically contributed to predicting sexual harassment: learned helplessness (β=.079; t=3.036, P<.01); indecent dressing (β=.160; t=6.767, P<.01); narcissistic grandiosity (β= .184; t= 4.329, P<.01); and narcissistic vulnerability (β=.063; t=2.068, P<.05). The three independent variables explored in this study are sufficiently forceful to influence sexual harassment among undergraduates. Therefore, the study concluded that sexual harassment among undergraduates can be reduced when behaviour change agents take into account the variables considered in this study while diagnosing and preferring solutions to vulnerability to sexual harassment on campuses.

Abstract

Adolescents in their development experience symptoms of bipolar disorder that hinder adolescent development. This study presents a critical analysis of previous research findings in the context of developing intervention strategies for adolescents with bipolar disorder symptoms. We evaluated the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy applied to a group of adolescents with active parental support. This study utilized qualitative-descriptive methods to elucidate the positive impact of the therapy in improving psychological well-being and management of bipolar symptoms. Although the findings indicated the success of the therapy, the limitations of previous research became a focal point for this follow-up study. The results showed that parents' presence and participation played an important role in designing and reinforcing the therapy intervention. Emotional and educative support from parents provides a solid foundation to accelerate the adolescent's healing process. These findings provide insight into the importance of integrating family support in designing effective cognitive-behavioral therapy strategies to manage bipolar disorder symptoms in adolescents.

Abstract

The path to achieving happiness in life of each individual has its own uniqueness and way. Many feel happy but there is still a sense of anxiety in their hearts, happy simply because the happiness they get is not the ultimate happiness. In Islam, the real happiness is the happiness of ma'rifatullah. One way to get it is to give alms to others in need. Happiness is achieved by abstinence from various physical pleasures. Those who have attained a high level of holiness are the ones who obtain good fortune and happiness. The research used in this study is a type of literature study research with a qualitative descriptive analysis approach. The data sources used in this study are secondary data sources. The result of this research is that to achieve true happiness, humans can establish a good relationship with the Creator, one of which is by giving alms with the intention of lillah (because of Allah) not because they want to be seen or known by others. According to religious psychology, happiness can be achieved by getting closer to Allah such as self-muhasabah, gratitude, and almsgiving.

Abstract

"Taqwa" is a familiar term among Muslims, serving as a reminder to continuously enhance one's piety. It has also been incorporated into the national education goals in Indonesia, extending its implementation to the field of education and industry. This study aims to develop and measure the concept of taqwa. Employing a quantitative method and purposive sampling techniques, data collection utilized the Muslim Piety Scale (MPS), developed by the researcher based on Kuning's (2018) taqwa concept. The study involved 227 Muslim students from the Faculty of Psychology at the Islamic University of Riau (UIR). Data analysis was conducted using Smart PLS 3.0 software. Findings revealed that the taqwa construct's four dimensions had items reflecting each component of taqwa. The dimension of controlling anger made the most dominant contribution to the taqwa construct, followed by forgiveness, seeking forgiveness (istighfar), and generosity. The developed taqwa scale from this study can serve as a tool for measuring piety in educational and industrial settings, specifically for individuals of the Islamic faith.
