Abstract

Indonesia is prone to volcanic eruptions, with Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta being one of the most active volcanoes in the country. Despite the risks, the community's preparedness for volcanic eruptions is still lacking. This study contributed to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational program in improving community preparedness for Mount Merapi eruption disasters in the Ngemplak II Puskesmas working area. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest one-group design was used, involving 66 respondents from Widodomartani Village. The educational program consisted of a lecture, discussion, poster installation, and booklet distribution. The results showed a significant increase in community knowledge after the educational program, with a Wilcoxon test value of 0.000. The study concludes that the educational program is effective in improving community preparedness for Mount Merapi eruption disasters. The findings suggest that a comprehensive educational program that combines different media can increase community knowledge and preparedness for volcanic eruptions. The study recommends the implementation of similar educational programs in disaster-prone areas to enhance community resilience.

Abstract

The leading cause of infant mortality in Indonesia was low birth weight at 28.2% in 2022. Children under five years old with a history of low birth weight have a higher risk of experiencing growth delays and non-communicable diseases as adults. This research contributed to determining the relationship between a history of low birth weight and the incidence of stunting in children under five. The research design used a case-control with a retrospective approach using maternal and child health books. The sampling technique in this research was simple random sampling. Samples were taken from 238 children under five years old in Wonosari, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Data analysis used the Somers test which showed that there was a relationship between a history of low birth weight and the incidence of stunting in children under five with p = 0.000, the direction of the relationship was positive, and the strength of the relationship was strong, a score of r = 0.560. The OR = 17.907, which means that children under five years old with a history of low birth weight have a 17.907 times risk of experiencing stunting. Children under five years with low birth weight are at greater risk of stunting than children under five years with normal birth weight.

Abstract

This study examines the risk factors associated with cerebrovascular disease (CVA), more commonly referred to as stroke, in adolescents. CVA constitutes the leading cause of neurological disorder in nearly all countries worldwide, representing a significant contributing factor to disability and mortality. Although the incidence of stroke is higher in the older population, there has been an increase in the number of cases affecting younger individuals, particularly adolescents. This study aimed to identify the risk factors contributing to stroke in this age group between 2014 and 2024, using a bibliometric analysis. This study employed VOSviewer and Publish or Perish for bibliometric analysis of publications retrieved from the Scopus database. The results indicated that hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, smoking and alcohol consumption were the factors most extensively studied to their role as risk factors. Furthermore, there was a significant correlation between these factors and stroke in adolescents. The US was identified as the leading country in this area of research, followed by Canada and the UK. This aims to enhance comprehension of this emerging public health issue and implement strategies for its mitigation. By identifying the causes of CVAs in adolescents, this study provides a foundation for future research aimed at reducing the incidence of stroke in younger populations.

Abstract

Stunting during the crucial stages of early childhood represents a major public health issue worldwide. One way to prevent stunting is by using katuk (Sauropus androgynous) leaves as part of a balanced diet. Nursing practitioners are essential in preventing and managing stunting, particularly in communities affected by widespread malnutrition. This research contributed to strengthen local wisdom in stunting prevention by utilizing Sauropus androgynous leaves among toddlers. The study is pre-experimental with one group pre and post-test design. The sampling method uses total sampling of 24 toddlers (aged 12-50 months old). Respondents were given an intervention in the form of taking Sauropus androgynous leaves juice which was given once a day for 3 days alternately in a week with an amount of 250 cc juice each time. To prepare the juice, it is necessary to wash 100 grams of Sauropus androgynous leaves thoroughly. Subsequently, blend the leaves with 250 cc of water and 50 grams of pineapple. Finally, strain the mixture to achieve a smoother consistency. Data measurement was carried out by measuring height based on age using a Stature meter (growth chart) in the pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon sign rank test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results of the study showed that the average normal z score value before taking Sauropus androgynous leaves juice was 66.7%. After intervention with Sauropus androgynous leaves juice, there was an increase in the number of normal z scores to 83.3%. The results of the Wilcoxon signed rank test hypothesis showed the Sig value = 0.046 and there was a significant difference in Z Score values in toddlers aged 12-50 months old before and after taking Sauropus androgynous leaves juice.

Abstract

Regular child anthropometry, such as measuring a children height and or length, is a crucial part of pediatric clinical evaluations. Anthropometric measurements of children allow measurement errors caused by weaknesses in measuring instruments, thus affecting the accuracy of measurement results. This review contributes to nursing by providing insights into the reliability and accuracy of digital anthropometric tools, which are essential for ensuring precise growth monitoring in pediatric care. the reliability and accuracy of digital anthropometry tools and contributes to nursing by providing insight into the reliability and accuracy of digital anthropometry tools that are important in monitoring child growth and development. Conventional anthropometric methods, while widely used, face limitations in accuracy due to human error and challenges with measuring children. Digital anthropometry offers a promising alternative with potentially higher precision, ease of use, and adaptability, critical for tracking children’s health metrics like height and weight against growth standards. The study applied the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology, using PRISMA guidelines for literature reviews, and selected seven studies meeting specific inclusion criteria. Studies reviewed technologies such as Auto Anthro, Bland.  Six studies indicated that digital measurements of anthropometry had excellent levels of accuracy and reliability to monitor child growth and development; one study showed less accuracy because it takes more time to test and improve training and ensure the software works as intended. For nurses, using digital anthropometry improves efficiency in clinical practice by enabling rapid and accurate assessments, reducing human error, and increasing the reliability of growth monitoring, thereby enabling early intervention and better health outcomes for children.

Abstract

The fulfillment of family health duties is essential to improve the nutritional status of children under five years old. This study contributed to determining the influence of family health tasks on the nutritional status of children under five years old with the Family Centered Nursing (FCN) model approach. The Quasi-Experimental research design with the Pretest Posttest Nonequivalent Control Group Design approach with a sample of 150 people divided into 75 people in the intervention group and the control group. Data collection by measuring nutritional status (BB/U) from the Ministry of Health in 2020. Pre-test through measurement of nutritional status of children under five years old. The intervention was given for 8 weeks through a family health task intervention with the FCN model approach in the intervention group, and independent learning through modules in the dick group. Furthermore, a post-test is carried out through the measurement of the nutritional status of children under five years old. Data processing includes editing, coding, scoring, and tabulating, and then statistical tests are carried out for the Wilcoxon Rank Test. Results: There was a difference in the nutritional status of children under five years after being given the intervention in family health tasks. Family health tasks are effective in improving the nutritional status of children under five years old (P-v 0.025). Optimizing family health tasks with the FCN model approach is a strategic solution in public health programs that focus on improving the nutritional status of children under five years old.
