Abstract

North Sumatra is one of the provinces that contributes the most prominent agricultural commodities of red chilies and cayenne peppers in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the outcomes of price forecasts for cayenne and red chilies in the province of North Sumatra. The method used is multivariate singular spectrum analysis. Results were grouped into six groups based on 12 eigenvectors with a forecast length of 9 monthly periods. Further, the level of accuracy was obtained from MAPE for each variable, with the highest MAPE being 30% for the curly red chili, 27.55% for the big red chili, and the lowest at 23.44% for mixed cayenne pepper. So, the price forecast for red chilies and cayenne peppers in North Sumatra Province for October 2023 to June 2024 using the Multivariate Singular Spectrum Analysis model is included in the forecast category with reasonable capabilities.

Abstract

Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Duch) is a food rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, minerals, carbohydrates, and flavonoid compounds. Flavonoids have several pharmacological activities, including as antioxidants to ward off free radicals. This study aims to determine the total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity of pumpkin fruit. The extraction of pumpkin fruit was done by the maceration method in a 70% ethanol solvent. The total flavonoid test used the colorimetric method with a 10% AlCl3 reagent and quercetin as a positive control. Antioxidant activity was tested using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method. The results obtained for the total flavonoid content of the ethanol extract of pumpkin fruit amounted to 1.741 mgQE/g ± 0.2438 and an IC50 value of 379.44 ppm, including the category of weak antioxidant, compared with the positive control.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the attitudes of farmers toward agricultural insurance programs and to explain the reasons for their participation or non-participation in these programs. Both primary and secondary data were used as sources of information. A total of 40 farmers were selected using stratified random sampling. The results revealed that program participants had a neutral attitude towards the Manarap Baru Village Rice Farmer Insurance Program (AUTP), with an index of 3.18. At the same time, non-participants tended to disagree, with an index of 2.54. The main reasons for farmers not participating in the AUTP program varied, with some citing a lack of understanding about the program despite efforts by the insurance company to provide direct counseling. Conversely, the reasons for farmers joining AUTP included various advantages, such as financial protection against the risk of crop failure, reduced loss risk, and an easy claims process in case of loss.

Abstract

Eceng gondok is a weed plant that lives in shallow water areas. The aim of this research was to determine the burn wound healing activity of an ethanol extract of Eceng gondok leaves. The study utilized 28 male mice with burn injuries as test animals, dividing them into 4 groups. We gave a gel containing an ethanol extract to the 10% group. The 0% group received a gel base; the positive control group received Bioplacenton® gel; and the negative control group received no treatment. For 14 days, we administered treatment to all treatment and control groups once a day and measured the burn wound's diameter using the Morton method every two days. Data shown were significant differences between the 10% extract group and the positive control groups. The concentration that is effective in burn wound healing is 10%, with the smallest wound diameter and the largest healing percentage.

Abstract

The incidence of breast cancer in Indonesia is steadily rising. Women have the highest incidence of breast cancer. Acetogenins are highly effective inhibitors of mitochondrial complex I or NADH dehydrogenase, making them a promising option for therapeutic creation against breast cancer. The plant known as Annona muricata, also referred to as the soursop leaf plant, is purported to possess the ability to suppress the activity of breast cancer. Hence, it is imperative to assess the chemical composition of soursop leaves on receptors by docking experiments. Research utilizing the active site on the alpha estrogen receptor has determined that the reticulin molecule, with a free energy of -8.14 kcal/mol, is a potential contender for breast cancer therapeutic medications. Reticulin exhibits the highest affinity for binding to the active site of estrogen receptor alpha. This chemical exhibits the capacity to impede the growth of breast cancer.

This study aims to analyze consumers' assessment of various factors such as promotion, location, brand, price, taste, and packaging size, and their impact on purchasing decisions for Saladpilih.id fruit salad. The research method involves a quantitative approach and data collection through online questionnaires. A total of 94 samples were obtained using nonprobability sampling with the Slovin formula. The findings indicate that promotion, location, brand, price, taste, and packaging size were positively assessed by consumers, with purchasing decision receiving the highest score of 4.19 and promotion the lowest at 3.87. The study also reveals that promotion, location, brand, price, taste, and packaging size all influence consumer decisions when purchasing Saladpilih.id fruit salad.

Abstract

Erratic weather, such as intense heat followed by heavy rain, is causing air pollution in the sky of Jakarta. According to the SNI 03-6389-2011, which deals with energy conservation in building envelopes, the overall thermal transfer value (OTTV) for walls should not exceed 35 W/m2. This study aims to analyze OTTV in Class T and Class S. Class S uses clear glass, while Class T has a shading device in the form of a sunglass sticker. The method used involves calculating the total outer wall area, glass area, window-to-wall ratio (WWR), solar factor value, and then obtaining the OTTV. The results of the study show that the WWR value for Class T was 0.5, while for Class S it was 0.4. The OTTV value in Class T is 58.74 W/m2, whereas the OTTV in Class S is 70.64 W/m2. Despite both classrooms not meeting the SNI requirements, the classrooms using shading devices have OTTV values closer to the SNI standard.

Abstract

The solvent type plays a crucial role in influencing the extraction of active compounds from natural materials. The peel of kapul fruit (Baccaurea macrocarpa) is known to contain flavonoid compounds with notable antibacterial properties. This study aimed to quantify the total flavonoid content in kapul fruit peel extract by evaluating the effects of different solvent types using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. The analysis revealed the presence of secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, saponins, and flavonoids. The total flavonoid content of the kapul fruit peel extract varied significantly across different solvents: 4.7238 ± 0.5807 mgQE/g for ethanol, 2.9699 ± 0.1539 mgQE/g for ethyl acetate, and 2.0417 ± 0.4236 mgQE/g for n-hexane. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant difference in flavonoid content among the three solvent extracts. These results highlight the importance of solvent selection in maximizing the extraction efficiency of flavonoids from kapul fruit peel, which may have implications for its potential therapeutic applications.
