Symmetry: Pasundan Journal of Research in Mathematics Learning and Education
This journals is an international journal, publishing original refereed articles on all aspects of mathematics education. Papers should address the central issues in terms which are of relevance across educational systems and informed by wider thinking in the field. The journal has three sections, covering research papers, book reviews, and current reports. The Research Papers section contains reports of studies involving empirical investigation and theoretical argumentation from which conclusions and implications can be drawn for future research and practice. Such reports are expected to show how the study builds on critical review of relevant literature and to provide an account of the methods and procedures used. Reports on thoughtful replications or variations of key earlier studies are welcome, as are critical reviews of some well-defined aspect of mathematics education. The journal welcomes high-quality research in any methodological tradition and is open to innovative and unusual approaches. All submissions are peer-reviewed.

APPLICATION OF BRAIN BASED LEARNING MODEL TO INCREASE STUDENT LEARNING RESULT OF MATHEMATICAL ABSTRACT This study was conducted based on low learning outcomes, especially in mathematics subjects and know the influence of Brain Based Learning model of learning toward mathematics learning. This research uses experimental method. The instrument used in this study is the instrument of mathematics learning results in the form of a description test, and the scale of attitudes containing statements of student attitudes toward learning mathematics. The data collected then dioal with rock SPSS 17.0 For Windows. Then proceed with the test of normality, homogeneity and equality of two averages using the t-test. Based on the results of data analysis obtained conclusion: (1) the results of learning mathematics students who use learning Brain Based Learning is better than conventional learning. (2) students are positive towards learning mathematics after using Brain Based Learning learning. Key word: Brain Based Learning, Mathematics Achievement.

Kemampuan abstraksi matematis merupakan kemampuan dasar yang yang harus dimiliki siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan abstraksi matematis siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP). Metode penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Subyek penelitiannya adalah siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMP Negeri Kota Bandung sebanyak 33 siswa. Instrumen utama dalam penelitian adalah peneliti sendiri dan dibantu dengan tes kemampuan abstraksi matematis serta pedoman wawancara. Kemampuan abstraksi matematis dalam penelitian ini berkaitan dengan abstraksi reflektif, abstraksi empiris, dan abstraksi teoritis. Pada hasil penelitian ini memberikan saran atau rekomendasi kepada para guru dan peneliti untuk memperhatikan hal-hal berikut dalam pembelajaran, yaitu: 1) pemilihan model atau pendekatan pembelajaran harus tepat sesuai dengan karakteristik materi dan karakteristik siswa; 2) penggunaan bahan ajar lebih mengaktifkan siswa; dan 3) perlu penelitian lanjutan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan abstraksi matematis siswa dengan model pembelajaran yang bervariasi.

Penelitian ini bertujuan meningkatkan pemahaman matematika siswa melalui pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) di Sekolah SMP PGRI Pamanukan. Pendekatan yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang terdiri atas perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan (observasi) dan refleksi. Subyek penelitian siswa kelas VIII SMP PGRI Pamanukan dengan Materi Relasi dan fungsi. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan tes formatif setiap siklus dan observasi. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan statistik deskriptif. Penelitian ini terdiri dari tiga siklus. Pada siklus pertama rerata nilai ulangan harian siswa sebesar 6,02 dan rerata nilai ulangan harian pada siklus kedua sebesar 6,81 sedangkan rerata nilai di siklus ketiga sebesar 8,03. Dari hasil penelitian tersebut maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD mampu meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman matematika hingga memenuhi Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM).

Matemathic learning process which involve moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action will produce intelligent and characterless nation. This really depends on the teacher, because the character education implementation should start from the class. This research aim to find of the elementary school’s teachers readiness, on mathematics learning implementation which based on character education. The research method in this research used descriptive analysis cualitative, with focus group discussion as the data collection technique. Viewed from the knowledge aspect and the readiness of the teacher on teaching matemathics, can be concluded that the elementary school teacher are not ready to implement the matemathics learning process which based on character education. The elementary school teachers are recommended to improve their competences by doing some study of the concepts and policies which is related to the character education development. The concept and the policies are : Kebijakan Nasional Pembangunan Karakter Bangsa Tahun 2010-2025; Desain Induk Pendidkan Kaakter Tahun 2010; and Pengembangan Pendidikan Budaya dan Karakter Bangsa Tahun 2010.

This research is a type of descriptive research that aims to describe the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts in solving problems, especially related to the concept of set. The subjects of this study were seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Cibadak Lebak Regency 2018/2019 Academic Year as many as 30 people. The instrument used in this study is a test of mathematical comprehension ability in the form of description. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively to find out the mean, mode, percentage of ideal scores, standard deviations and variances. In addition, it also describes the ability of students' mathematical understanding for each indicator. The results of the analysis are obtained: 1) Overall the average ability of students' mathematical understanding is 70% of the ideal score; 2) The average mathematical ability of students on indicator 1 is 56% of the ideal score; 3) The average ability of students on indicator 2 is 88%; 4) The average mathematical ability of students on indicator 3 is 79% of the ideal score; 5) The average mathematical ability of students on indicator 4 is 54% of the ideal score; 6) The average mathematical ability of students on indicator 5 is 84% of the ideal score. The ability of students' mathematical understanding based on the average of each indicator, the lowest is the fourth indicator, namely the ability to present the concept. And the highest average is the second indicator, namely the ability to identify examples and not examples because the questions given are counted easily. Included in the category of very high mathematical understanding ability there are 7 people, 11 people high, 8 people enough, and 4 people low. Overall students who are able to understand mathematically 18 people who get a score above KBM (Minimum Learning Criteria) of 30 students.

Makalah ini melaporkan temuan tentang satu eksperimen dengan desain Non - Equivalent Control Group Designuntuk mengetahui perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep antara siswa yang pembelajaranya menggunakan model pembelajaran Resource-Based Learning berbantuan program Geogebradengan siswa yang diberi pembelajaran konvensional pada siswa kelas VIII semester dua di salah satu sekolah di Kabupaten Sumedang. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII semester dua serta sampel yang diambil sebanyak 82 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis, serta angket dalam upaya melihat hasil dari pandangan siswa mengenai pembelajaran Resource-Based Learning berbantuan program Geogebra.Penelitian ini menemukan: (1) Dari Uji pada taraf kesalahan 5% menunjukan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa dalam pembelajaran dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran Resource-Based Learning berbantuan program Geogebra lebih baik dibanding pembelajaran konvensional.(2) Analisis deskriptif terhadap angket sikap siswa berada pada kategori positif dengan kriteria sedang, hal ini menunjukan bahwa pembelajaran dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran Resource-Based Learning berbantuan program Geogebra berkategori positif terhadap sikap siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika.

The reality of the process of learning mathematics that occurs commonly in the field it’s complicating dan confusing students. This is very impact on interest and student learning outcomes. One of the alternative to improve students in understanding the definition of logarithms. The purpose of this study is to know the understanding of learning concepts and to know the response of students during the learning process. The research was located at SMA Negeri 15 Bandung, in class XII-Language, the number of students 20 people consisting of 6 male students and 14 female students. The location is on jl. Sarimanis I Sarijadi Bandung. Classroom action research method with research design consists of 4 (four) stages: planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The study was conducted 2 cycles. Reflection results of the 1st cycle used as the 2nd cycle’s plan material in order to the 2nd cycle of learning process more focused. The results concluded that: The use of image illustration media can improve the concept of logarithm definition. The results of questionnaires and interviews with students showed all students were happy with the learning process, all students interested in discussing with friends, all students declared the role of teachers help in working easily and interactively, most assume the given problem is not too difficult, most students more active, and all students love to solve the problem of logarithm by using illustration of the picture. The method of group teaching is more appropriate because students can communicate with other friends so that all students can understand the definition of logarithms correctly. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan pemahaman konsep matematik dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran Snowball Throwing. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang terdiri dari dua siklus dimana dalam setiap siklus terdapat tiga pertemuan dan satu kali tes. Model pembelajaran Snowball Throwing sudah terlaksana sesuai dengan proses pembelajaran yang diharapkan dikelas dengan memanfaatkan sumber-sumber belajar yang tersedian di sekolah dan memberikan pemahaman kepada siswa untuk lebih terbuka dan memberikan wawasan supaya memanfaatkan sumber belajar yang ada di lingkungan sekolah. Model pembelajaran Snowball Throwing dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematik siswa kelas VIII A SMP Plus Mathla’ul Anwar Cibuah pada materi pokok bahasan Operasi Pecahan Bentuk Aljabar. Peningkatan pemahaman konsep matematik siswa diperoleh dari hasil data pada kegiatan sebelum penelitian diperoleh nilai rata-rata mencapai 58% dan siswa yang mendapat kriteria tuntas adalah 7 siswa. Kemudian pada siklus I diperoleh nilai rata-rata mencapai 69% dan siswa yang mendapat kriteria tuntas adalah 16 siswa, dan pada siklus II mencapai nilai rata-rata 80,70% dan siswa yang mendapat kriteria tuntas adalah 24 siswa. Dari hasil siklus yang telah dilakukan maka kegiatan penelitian tindakan kelas yang menggunakan model pembelajaran Snowball Throwing ini dikatakan berhasil. Karena suatu pembelajaran dikatakan berhasil apabila kriteria ketuntasan belajar mencapai 70%. Ini terlihat pada siklus II yang mencapai nilai rata-rata 80,70% dan siswa yang mendapat kriteria tuntas belajar adalah 24 siswa.

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan menelaah secara mendalam tentang kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis yang dipengaruhi kepercayaan diri siswa SMA. Metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode korelasional dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa SMA di Kota Bandung dan sampelnya sebanyak 27 orang yang ditetapkan dengan teknik purposif sampling pada salah satu SMA di Kota Bandung. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini berupa tes kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis sebanyak 6 butir soal dan skala kepercayaan diri siswa sebanyak 33 skala pernyataan. Hasil penelitian ini memperoleh kesimpulan bahwa, kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa SMA dipengaruhi positif oleh kepercayaan dirinya sebesar 74,6%, sedangkan 25,4% dipengaruhi oleh faktor selain kepercayaan diri siswa. Kata Kunci: Berpikir Kritis Matematis, Kepercayaan Diri Abstract This study aims to analyze and examine in depth about the students’ mathematical critical thinking ability influenced by self-confidence. The study was designed in the form of experiments using correlational method with quantitative approach. The population in this research is high school students in Bandung and the sample as many as 27 people determined by purposive sampling technique in one of high school in Bandung. The instrument in this research is the test of mathematical critical thinking ability as much as 6 items and the scale of students' self-confidence as much as 33 scale statement. Based on the results and discussion, it is concluded that the students’ mathematical critical thinking ability influenced positively by self-confidence equal to 74.6%, while 25.4% influenced by factors other than student self-confidence. Blended learning is a learning method that combines two or more learning method. The objective of this research is to know the improvement of mathematical reasoning ability of student of mathematics prospective teacher, through Blended Learning with Probing-prompting learning strategy. The research method used is quantitative research, and divides participants into two groups. The first group is the experimental class group, it is the group of prospective teachers who get Blended Learning with Probing-Prompting Strategy and the second group is the control group; which is prospective teachers who get conventional learning. The study was conducted on 6th semester prospective teacher students from one university in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Based on this research, it is known that: experimental class group; which is the group of prospective teachers who get Blended Learning has improved the ability of mathematical reasoning is better than the control class group. It can be seen from the results of the normalized gain calculation of the experimental class reaches an average of 0.50 while the normalized gain of the control class reaches an average of 0.34. Although both are still in medium category, but based on t-test results between two parties, found that the increase has significant differences.
