Abstract

A determination of phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity from Psidium guajava leaf by UV–Visible spectrophotometry has been done. The determination of phenolic compounds was carried out according to Folin-Ciocalteau method and antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH method, calculated as gallic acid equivalent (GAE). The determination of phenolic compound showed that the fresh sample , air drying, oven drying 40C and oven drying 60C contained 11.207; 4.129; 4.525 and 8.357 mg GAE/g Sample, IC50 of these sample were 0.218; 0.515; 0.50 and 0.315 mg/g, respectively.

Abstract

Purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) is one of the agricultural commodities as source of carbohydrates and energy which is included in the family of Convolvulaceae. It is also a good source of vitamins and minerals which is good for nutrition and health. One of the compounds contained in purple sweet potato is beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is a precursor of vitamin A. It is useful as an antioxidant, boosts the immune system and treats other diseases. Beta-carotene is unstable, especially at high temperature. This study aims at answering the question as to how the processing of purple sweet potato can effect to beta-carotene level by using Visible spectrophotometry method. This study is conducted by performing three treatments to purple sweet potato i.e. raw, fried and boiled sample. Weight of raw sample is 10 grams,  fried and boiled sample is 15 grams. The sample were extracted by liquid-liquid extraction and it is measured by Visibel spectrophotometer at maximum wavelength of 452.5 nm. The results obtained show that the average level of beta-carotene is 75.91 ±1.92 ppm for raw samples, 63.05 ± 3.45 ppm for fried, and 45.66 ± 0.82 ppm for boiled. The result is statistically calculated by one-way ANOVA statistical analysis. It shows that sig 0.000 (P < 0.05), and it indicates that there is an effect of processing to the average level of beta-carotene contained in purple sweet potato.

Abstract

The research on preparation and characterization of dried leaves extract of simplicia sambiloto (Andrograpgis paniculata Nees.) has been done. The dry extract is made by adding various ratio of lactose, which is the ratio of the extract and drying with lactose 1x viscous extract (F1), 1½ x viscous extract (F2) and 2x viscous extract (F3). The name of the extract is Extractum Andrographis paniculata Nees. Siccum. The extract was in the form of dry powder, brownish green, tasteless with a very bitter taste. Levels of water soluble extract was 97,2472% ± 0,4598%, while levels of ethanol soluble extract 15,3012 ± 0,2594%.

Abstract

The quantitation of same metal such as cadmium, zink and lead from same sweetened condensed milk packed in the cans samples wich are collected in Pasar Raya Padang has been done. Metal measurament done by Atomic Aborbtion Spectroscopy (AAS). The result showed it’s zink quantity from sample A, B, C dan D are 24.3948 mg/Kg; 23.7886mg/Kg; 19.3428 mg/Kg; 19.3928 mg/Kg respectily, it’s cadmium were not identified, It’s lead quantity are 0.1434 mg/Kg; 0 mg/Kg; 0 mg/Kg; 0.1436 mg/Kg. It showed that sample A, and D have not complied the milk qualification of BPOM. RI. No. 03725/B/SK/VII/89 in metal compound.

Abstract

Studies have been conducted to analyse the hydroquinone and mercury content in beauty whitening creams from parlor and on the market in Padang city. Beauty whitening cream samples were A, B, C, D,E and F, then were observed using FeCl3, Ag-ammoniacal, Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Iodide, and amalgam reagents. Hydroquinon was determined using Thin Layer Cromatography (TLC) and UV spectrophotometer. The results showed that six samples from three samples whitening cream B, D and F identified containing hydroquinone and two samples B and F contain mercury. So from the six samples of beauty whitening cream, three samples of the products do not contain hydroquinone and mercury.

Abstract

A research on the activity of the central nervous system stimulant of some bottled energy drinks on the market for white mice (Mus musculus, L.) has been done. The samples labelled Minuman Energi (ME) 1, ME 2, ME 3, ME 4 and ME 5 and administered perorally. Each sample has administration volume of 0.4 mL/20g BW. Comparator used is caffeine (6.5 mg/Kg BW). Parameters used for stimulant activity were endurance tested using Rotary road, while  motoric activity and curiosity tested using Automatic Hole Board. From the research that has been done, it is known that ME 1, ME 2, ME 3, ME 4 and ME 5 has a central nervous system stimulant activity by increasing endurance, motoric activity and curiosity in mice significantly.

Abstract

Penelitian tentang skrining fitokimia dan penetapan kadar flavonoid total dari ekstrak etanol daun pare (Momordica charantia L.) telah dilakukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan fitokimia dan kadar flavonoid total ekstrak etanol daun pare famili Cucurbitaceae.Ekstraksi ini menggunakan metode maserasi pelarut etanol 70 %.Ekstrak yang didapat diuapkan sehingga diperoleh ekstrak kental.Selanjutnya dilakukan uji skrining fitokimia dan kromatografi lapis eluen heksan dan etil asetat (5:5), kemudian diidentifikasi dengan sinar UV 366 nm dan penampak bercak AlCl3. Diperoleh kandungan senyawa kimia dari ekstrak daun pare yaitu alkaloid, flavonoid dan saponin. Pada ekstrak daun pare hutan didapatkan fenol, flavonoid, saponin dan tanin. Untuk identifikasi kromatografi lapis tipis digunakan eluen heksan dan etil asetat (5:5), kemudian diidentifikasi dengan sinar UV 366 nm dan penampak bercak AlCl3. Selanjutnya ditetapkan kadar flavonoid menggunakan spektrofotometri sinar tampak dengan panjang gelombang serapan maksimum 426,50 nm dengan pembanding kuersetin, diperoleh kadar flavonoid total dalam ekstrak daun pare sebesar 2,87% dan dalam daun pare hutan sebesar 2,75 %.

Abstract

The study on paracetamol microencapsulation by solvent evaporation method using hidroxy prophyl methil celluloce (HPMC) as a polimer has been done. The paracetamol Quantitation by UV spectrofotometer at 243 nm, using phosphate buffer pH 5,8 as the dissolution medium. The result showed that 1st formula’s dissolution rate is higher than 2nd and 3nd formulas, because the HPMC content of those formula are higher than the 1st formula, so paracetamol as a core are coored thicker, so that lower in drug rate releasing. The kinetic releasing mechanism of active ingredient from the microcapsule following the zero order, first order and Higuchi equation.

Abstract

A research on the study of physical and chemical stability of ketoprofen-urea solid dispersions. Solid dispersions prepared through dissolution method with ketoprofen-urea ratio is 1:1, 1:3, 1:5. Powder solid dispersion system was evaluated physicochemical properties include analysis Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), FT-IR spectroscopy, and dissolution profiles. Accelerated stability test for 3 months at a temperature (40±2)°C. The parameters tested include organoleptic test and ketoprofen levels. Ketoprofen levels were measured by UV spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 255.5 nm after being stored for 1, 2, and 3 months at a temperature (40±2)°C. DTA analysis results showed endothermic peak shift ketoprofen meaningful. FT-IR spectra showed no chemical interaction between ketoprofen-urea solid dispersion powder. The results showed that solid dispersions of ketoprofen-urea can improve the physicochemical properties and can enhance the dissolution profile of solid dispersion compared to pure ketoprofen with the highest dissolution results indicated by solid dispersion formula 3 (1:5) is 105.674%. Test chemical and physical stability of solid dispersions of ketoprofen-urea showed a change in the physics and chemistry of solid dispersions. Organoleptic test the change in color the three formulas. While the test  by the chemical assay, the three formulas while showed that increasing the concentration of urea in the solid dispersion of a decrease in the levels of ketoprofen. The most stable formula is the formula 1 (1:1) to 24.748 months of age.

Abstract

Has done research on the effect of skin extract of eggplant (Solanum melongena L) on the formation of atherosclerosis in male quail (coturnix coturnix japonica). Induction of atherosclerosis in high-fat feeding (MLT) and prophylthiourasil. eggplant skin extract dose used was 25 mg/kg BB, 50 mg/kg BB, and 100 mg/kg BB. treatment of the animals for 60 days. results showed that administration of the eggplant skin extract effect was 50 mg/kg BB and a dose of 100 mg/kg BB . use within a period of time does not affect the ratio of organ weight of quail.
