Abstract

A determination of total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity from cabbage leaves (Brassica olerace L var capitata L,) using spectrophotometry has been done. The determinan of total phenolic compounds was carried out according to Folin-Ciocalteu method and antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH method. Result of total phenolic compounds determinant showed that a fresh sample, sample boiled for 10 minutes, sample boiled for 20 minutes, sample boiled for 30 minutes were 363.395 μg/g, 44.198 μg/g, 39.510 μg/g, 33.156 μg/g while antioxidant activity at fresh sample were 60.55% in 0,1 g/mL fresh extract and for 10 minutes, sample boiled for 20 minutes, sample boiled for 30 minutes were 75.16%; 45.65%; 44.40%. Based on result of this research, concluded that treatment of boiling can reduce total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity from cabbage leaves (Brassica olerace L. var capitata L,).

Abstract

Sub-acute toxicity testing of the ethanol extract of basil leaf  (Ocimum sanctum L.) has been done to the liver and kidney function male white mice. This testing includes checks alanine aminotransferase activity, serum creatinine levels and the relative weight of organs (liver and kidney). Extract administered orally at a dose variation of 100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg for 7, 14 and 21 days. The results showed basil leaf extract at a dose of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg no significant effect on the activity of SGPT, serum creatinine levels and relative organ weight (p > 0.05).

Abstract

The solubilization of dextromethorphan hydrobromide using Tween 80 and Span 80 has been studied. CMC’s value of Tween 80 and Span 80 are determined by surface tension method using Du Nouy Tensiometer and refractive index method using ABBE refractometer. The solubility of dextromethorphan hydrobromide using Tween 80 and Span 80 was evaluated at concentrations below the CMC point, above the CMC point and at CMC point. CMC’s value of Tween 80 and Span 80 respectively are 5,9 µg/mL and 6,3µg/mL. The solubility of dextromethorphan hydrobromide using Tween 80 was greater than Span 80 at concentration above the CMC’s value.

Abstract

Starch yam bean (Pachyrrhizus erosus Urban) is tablet excipient with poor of both flowability and compressibility which can not be used as diluents of direct tablet compression. The purpose of this research is to know the influence of the combination avicel PH101-starch as a filler material co-process. Tablet made with direct compression method with isoniazid as a model drug. Results of the study show that the formula 4 (Avicel PH101 concentration with 4%) can produce co-process with mechanical and physical properties of compresibilitas-the most good, as for the evaluation of isoniazid tablets do not meet the requirements of violence and friabilytas on all formula. In summary, use of Co-Process yam bean starch-Avicel PH101 with 0-4% Avicel PH101 concentration was not produced a tablet that meet the requirements.

Abstract

A study concerning the manufacture of calcium lactate from the limestone hills Tui Leopold. Limestone sample of  30 g was dissolved in 6 M HCl, filtered and the filtrate was added 6 M NH4OH to pH 10. Then added lactic acid 1 M. The precipitate is filtered, washed, dried in an oven at a temperature of 1050 C. The results obtained calcium lactate as 6. 2084 g. To determine the calcium content in limestone identification and assay of calcium, limestone is used as much as 1 g of calcium levels and obtained percentage is 36.08 %. Examination of limestone calcium lactate include organoleptic examination, solubility, qualitative identification, examination and the melting point of the assay by the method complexometry. The third difference in the weight of calcium lactate calcium percentage of the results obtained, for a weight of 1 g as much as 77.13 % w/w , weight of 2 g as much as 90.28 % w/w, while the weight of  3 g as much as 81.42 % w/w. From the data of calcium lactate assay with a sample of 7.93 g drying results have calcium levels that the percentage purity 82.94 % w/w, and the results of testing the melting point is 2280 C calcium lactate. So natural limestone hill Tui Leopold has a high purity calcium levels that can be made of calcium lactate.

Abstract

The isolation of flavonoid substance from Meniran has been performed. Of 100 grams of Meniran’s dried powder, 4.286 grams (4.286%) of thick extract, 1.76 grams of n-hexane fraction, 1.91 grams of CHCl3 fraction, 1.8 grams ofethyl acetate fraction, 2.12 grams of butanol fraction and 24.86 grams of residual fraction has been derived. After preparative chromatography,which is to isolate flavonoid, had been performed, it acquired four blotches which were marked as A,B,C and D. And afterwards it was evaporated which resulted 26.9 mg of flavonoid A, 30.4 mg of flavonoid B, 34.6 mg of flavonoid C and 35.4 mg of flavonoid D. Characterization was focused on flavonoid C as it has the highest antioxidant activities which was recognized from its high inhibition persentage which was attained following a DPPH test. flavonoid C is amorf, yellow coloured, and dissipated at 161.8o – 163.2o C. Based on UV spectrum with slide reactor and infrared spectrum, it was assumed that flavonoid C is an aglicone isoflavone which has an –OH on the 5th position and an o-diOH in ring A (6.7 or 7.8).

Abstract

Keberagaman kandungan metabolit sekunder yang terkandung dalam Nephrolepis biserrata (Sw.) Schott memiliki beragam potensi aktivitas farmakologis, salah satu aktivitas farmakologis yang masih minim diteliti adalah aktivitas antibakteri. Uji aktivitas antibakteri fraksi ekstrak etanol dari batang dan daun Nephrolepis biserrata (Sw.) Shott terhadap bakteri Eschericia coli dengan menggunakan metode difusi kertas cakram. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan 3 fraksi yaitu fraksi n-heksan, fraksi etil asetat dan fraksi metanol dengan variasi konsentrasi 30 %, 20 % dan 10% serta kontrol negatifnya adalah DMSO dan kontrol positif adalah kloramfenikol. Dari hasil pengujian aktivitas antibakteri didapatkan fraksi etil asetat dengan konsentrasi 30 % dari ekstrak etanol batang memiliki potensi kuat sebagai antibakteri dengan daya hambat sebesar 11,78 mm. Sedangkan fraksi metanol dengan konsentrasi 30 % dari ekstrak etanol daun memiliki potensi sedang dengan daya hambat sebesar 6,17 mm.

Abstract

Sodium alginate was isolated from brown algae (Sargassum crassifoluim Mont) which  collected from Sungai Nipah Beach West Sumatera using Na2CO3 3% for 5 days at a temperature of 50C. Filtrate obtained then added with 8% CaCl2 solution with variation in leght of maceration for t is 3, 5 and 7 days. Sodium generated per each long imaceration  was 14:08%, 26.67% and 30.56%. The results showed that with increasing in macerating time, the yield obtained sodium alginate will also increase. Highest contain obtained from 7 days maceration. Sodium alginat obtained then  characterized that includes checking the purity, particle size determination, development index, examination IR spectra, viscosity and flow properties

Abstract

Study of the effect of red ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe), garlic (Allium sativum L.), wine vinegar, and honey have been carried out on total cholesterol levels by using the tool Easy Touch GCHb and histopathological tests on male rats. The assortment of were given orally for 28 days with a dose of red ginger 0.162 g/kg BB, garlic 0,09 g/kg BB, wine vinegar 0.27 g/kg BB, and the honey of 1.8 g/kg BB. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA followed by Duncan test. The results showed a decrease in total cholesterol levels and may improve lumen area and lower scores damage to the blood vessels were significant (P <0.05), which means the provision of a assortment of red ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe), garlic (Allium sativum L.), wine vinegar and honey can lower total cholesterol and improve lumen area and lower scores damage to the blood vessels.

Abstract

Research on the effect of binahong leaf extract (Anredera Cordifolia (Tenore) Steen) on urine volume and resistance kidney stone formation in rat induced by ethylene glycol has been done. It purposed to look up the ability of the binahong leaf extract to increase the urine  volume and kidney stones shed on rats white males. That kidney stone formation induced by 0,75% ethylene glycol and 2% ammonium chloride for 7 days. 25 white male rats were divided into 5 groups,  group I were given drinking water (negative control), group II in the induction for 7 days (positive control), group III, IV and V were induced dose groups and given the extract at a dose of 50 mg/kg BB, 150mg/kg BB and 450mg/kg BB. Extracts was given on day 8-28, 24-hour urine volume were collected on days 7, 14, 21 and 28 for calcium level was measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometer and oxalat levels with ultraviolet and visible spectrophotometer. Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA followed by advenced Duncan test. The urine volume was not significantly influenced by treatment factors and the duration of administration (P>0.05), while the levels of calcium and oxalat significantly influenced by treatment factors and the long time of administration (P<0.05) based on these results it could be concluded that binahong leaf extract could increase the urine volume and kidney stones shed. The effective dose is the dose kidney stone shed 450mg/kgBB. So the higher the dose and the longer the time of administration of calcium and oxalate levels also increased in the urine volume of rat white males.
