Abstract

Title: Luigi Moretti, The Pioneer of Parametric Architecture Parametric Architecture is a movement with new values that has evolved into a stylistic architectural choice. According to several experts, parametric architecture is a design method that uses generative computation with parameters as controls. Luigi Walter Moretti was the first Italian architect to conceptualize Parametric Architecture. This paper aims to provide new insights into Luigi Moretti's thoughts, which form the foundation and initial means for developing parametric architecture. Moretti's parametric thinking can be examined through a literature review of his published ideas. One of Moretti's significant contributions to Parametric Architecture is his article published in Moebius, which outlines eight formulas for defining Parametric Architecture. Additionally, it can be studied through case studies of key architectural works by Moretti, including Casa Il Girasole in Rome, Stadio Secondo le Curve di Equiappettibillita Visiva, and the Watergate Complex. These key works illustrate how Moretti used parametric as a design method, involving multiple parameters as design controls. By studying Luigi Moretti's ideas and his parameter-based design method, this paper aims to provide new insights into the origins of Parametric Architecture's development.

Abstract

Title: Study of Structural Elements of Traditional Mbaru Niang House TraTraditional houses are built using natural materials and environmentally friendly construction techniques, taking into account climate, topography, and local culture. The connection structures in traditional houses are closely related to responding to local climate conditions. For example, the connections in the traditional house of Mbaru Niang in Wae Rebo, NTT, can withstand wind and earthquake loads due to its location in the mountains, which are prone to earthquakes and tornadoes. This study aims to analyze the connection structure in the Mbaru Niang traditional house using Iwamura's sustainability theory. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, collecting data from previous literature. The results show that the structure of Mbaru Niang is formed by the material characteristics sourced from the environment by the Wae Rebo community, which are used according to their natural properties, such as worok wood and bamboo, which are flexible materials, allowing the building structure to adapt to the flexibility of the materials. Flexibility can also be seen in the connection techniques that withstand earthquake loads and wind forces. This finding will produce a design proposal for connection techniques in contemporary buildings inspired by the local wisdom of connection techniques in Mbaru Niang houses.

Abstract

Title: The Effect of Environmental Setting of Tamansari on Temperature Humidity Index Geometric shape, land cover type, and density impact increasing global temperature and microclimate comfort. Tamansari was originally a park, garden, and bathhouse for the King and his family.  Today, Tamansari is a heritage tourism area surrounded by dense residential areas in the middle of Yogyakarta City. This study aims to determine how the setting of the Tamansari area affects changes in temperature and relative humidity, which impact changes in the Temperature Humidity Index (THI) on the micro-scale of the Tamansari area. The method used is descriptive quantitative analysis, and calculation analysis was performed using the (THI) equation. The study results showed that the THI value in the Tamansari area was uncomfortable, with a THI value of 27.77-32.52°C. Building coverage ratio, population, and human activities affect the THI value. The THI value can also change due to weather factors that affect the physical condition of the area, especially in open areas.

Abstract

Title: Study of The Development of Kawasan Sentra Sepatu Cibaduyut Oriented to Shopping Tourism Attraction Kawasan Sentra Sepatu Cibaduyut has a history as a shoe hub Kecamatan Bojongloa Kidul of Bandung City. In 1989, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia officially designated the Kawasan Sentra Sepatu Cibaduyut as a tourist attraction. As a tourist destination, this must consider crucial aspects that influence shopping tourism activities, such as tourism concepts and elements affecting shopping tourism activities. This research focuses on shopping tourism activities in Kawasan Sentra Sepatu Cibaduyut, conducting in-depth interviews with key subjects involved in tourism activities, including shoe manufacturers, shoe material vendors, shoe retailers, and local visitors as research subjects in shopping tourism activities. The interview results are then used to assess the elements of shopping tourism activities within the framework of the fundamental 3A tourism component, which includes attractions, amenities, and accessibility. The synthesis of 3A tourism components with respondent preferences as a result of interviews became the alternative design for developing shopping tourism attractions in Kawasan Sentra Sepatu Cibaduyut. This research has resulted in proposed planning points and the design of new tourist points and activities in Kawasan Sentra Sepatu Cibaduyut, which are oriented toward shopping tourism attractions.

Abstract

Title: Analysis of the Physical Arrangement of Jedong Temple from the Point of view of Architectural Design Principles   Jedong Temple, which is located in Wotan Mas village, Ngoro sub-district, Mojokerto regency, is a temple that spans a very long period, from the ancient Mataram era in Central Java to the Majapahit era in East Java. This unique temple is made from a mixture of stone and brick. The rocks are andesite and temple stones, while brick is a terracotta-colored burnt brick (the soil color). This research uses a comparative-critical method, comparing Jedong temple with similar temples or buildings. With this comparison, it will be able to reveal the architectural aspects that have not been revealed so far. Several architectural findings can be shown from this temple, among others, which indicates that this is a water structure, a building built on water or surrounded by water. Jedong Temple is in the form of 2 padhuraksa, which allegates other padhuraksa based on the symmetrical balance principle of padhuraksa in different temples. Then, access to the springs as the central axis or axis in a straight line. Also, the sequence of space division distinguishes between the outside space and the higher one in the hierarchy. Architecturally, Jedong temple shows that architectural principles have been applied since in the past, which we can use as materials to enrich architectural design principles in the present (the contemporary era).

Abstract

Title: The Concept of Sacredness in the Architectural Design of Peter Zumthor; Case Study: Saint Benedict Chapel and Bruder Klaus Chapel The sacredness of space is crucial for Catholic worship, allowing the congregation to feel God's presence. Peter Zumthor's architecture prioritizes spatial ambiance by engaging all senses, using appropriate materials, and harmonizing buildings with their sites. His Saint Benedict Chapel and Bruder Klaus Chapel exemplify his design principles. This study uses a qualitative approach and descriptive analysis to explore Zumthor's design concepts and their impact on sacredness. Both chapels showcase his skill in using light, materials, and spatial forms to create a sacred atmosphere. Light symbolizes God's presence through beams, movement, and contrasts, with dynamic lighting in Saint Benedict Chapel and dark shelter quality in Bruder Klaus Chapel. Materials are chosen for their sensory impact and aging process. Saint Benedict Chapel features warm wood and delicate detailing, while Bruder Klaus Chapel uses charred wood for a unique aroma and texture. The distinct forms of both chapels create a contemplative atmosphere and reinforce their function as places of worship.

Abstract

Title: The Impact of Floods on Residential Adaptation in Warungboto, Yogyakarta Settlements around the riverbank are not free from the threat of flooding due to overflowing river water. To reduce this risk, the community tries to adapt to their homes. This research aims to determine the influence of flooding on the adaptation of residential houses in Warungboto, Yogyakarta. The method used is a descriptive qualitative with observation, interview, and documentation techniques from both Warungboto residents and the author by analyzing homes using morphological, physiological, and cultural adaptation theories. The results found were that all types of adaptation were carried out by flood victims and were influenced by the location of the house, the status of the house, and the length of stay. Floods affect the adaptation of a residence by changing the house's orientation, adding water-retaining partitions, changing the house plan, and adding new rooms at a higher level than the ground floor.
