Abstract

One of the treatments for appendicitis is surgery. Surgery will certainly cause post-operative pain that needs to be handled appropriately. If it is not treated immediately, pain in post-operative patients will slow down patient recovery, results in long hospitalization, prone the patient to a high complication rate, and require a lot of costs. Therefore, proper handling of post-operative pain is needed. In addition to drugs, non-pharmacological techniques can be a supportive treatment that proven to be effective. A non-pharmacological technique that can reduce pain is finger grip relaxation therapy. This study aims to describe the nursing care in a case of patient with post-operative appendicitis given finger grip relaxation therapy to reduce pain. This is a descriptive case study of an adult postoperative appendicitis patient with major nursing problems, acute pain. Results showed that the patients suffering level 6 of pain (moderate pain). The patient was given intervention including analgesic and supported with hand-held finger grip therapy in three days. The intervention was given three times a day, with a duration of 30 minutes. After given the intervention, the patient reported a decrease in pain level, into level 1 (mild pain). It can be concluded that nurses can apply finger grip relaxation therapy to provide nursing intervention or nursing care for post-operative patient to accelerate pain relief.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic also has an impact on the transition from conventional education to digital education. Digital learning requires software as a medium during the learning process. Currently, the most widely used media in teaching nursing practice is social media in the form of WhatsApp and Telegram. The effectiveness of the implementation of cooperative learning, one of which is the STAD model in improving the quality of learning. The purpose of conducting research on improving the ability of nursing students in answering various Competency Test questions through the STAD model approach by utilizing social media WhatsApp. This study was a quasi-experimental study (quasi-experimental) with a research design in the form of a pre-posttest design with a control group (pretest-posttest control design) involving two groups, namely the treatment group and the control group. Both were given a pretest, and a posttest about learning the STAD method with WhatsApp media and was given an intervention. The study was conducted on July 14 to September 27, 2021 as many as 60 people. The results of the study stated that there was a significant difference in the ability to answer questions about the research subjects of the intervention and control groups in learning through WhatsApp online media (p <0.05). The increase in the average delta ability to answer competency test questions with the STAD method is better than without going through the STAD method, with d value of 56.95.

Abstract

Urinary retention after spinal anaesthesia and surgery ranges from 5%-70%, with men and the elderly at higher risk. This occurs because the urethral sphincter muscle does not respond to the urge to urinate and the patient is unable to feel the need to urinate. One treatment for this problem is providing hot pack media as a warm therapy in the suprapubic area. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of suprapubic hot pack therapy on the recovery of post spinal anaesthesia vesical urinary reflex. This quantitative study uses a quasy experiment design with a static group comparison approach. The population of this study was postoperative patients with spinal anaesthesia. The sample size was 60 respondents with accidental sampling. The research design has treatment and control groups, then measuring the results with observation sheets. Using the independent t-test for the analisys. The result showed the average recovery time of vesica urine was 225.5 minutes for intervention group and 295 minutes for control group with a p-value (0.000) < α (0.05), which means that there is an effect of suprapubic hot pack therapy on the recovery of vesica urine reflexes after spinal anaesthesia. Based on the results of this research, this procedure is an effective nursing intervention that can be applied in surgical inpatient rooms for the care of post-operative patients, especially in patients with spinal anaesthesia to speed up the recovery of the patient's bladder reflex.

This research aims to examine the effectiveness of Animation Videos and Flashcard Games in Improving Knowledge about Adolescent Reproductive Health among Students of State Junior High School 2 Batu Layar in 2024. The research method used  quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent two groups design on 51 respondents using Proportionate Random Sampling technique. Animation videos and flashcard games were provided for 3 sessions per week. Data collection on knowledge was conducted using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a significance level of 95% (α = 0.05). Before the intervention, respondents had sufficient knowledge about adolescent reproductive health, with 14 respondents (54%) in the animation video group and 10 respondents (40%) in the flashcard game group falling into the category of insufficient knowledge. After the provision of animation videos, the majority of respondents, 14 individuals (54%), reached the category of good knowledge. Meanwhile, following the use of flashcard games, the results showed that 22 respondents (88%) achieved good knowledge category. There is a difference in the effectiveness of animation videos and flashcard games in improving knowledge about adolescent reproductive health among students of State Junior High School 2 Batu Layar in 2024. Abstract

Diabetes mellitus can cause various complications, one of which is diabetic foot ulcers. Improper management of foot ulcers results in rapid and widespread infection. This will result in amputation. Foot care is an effort to avoid disturbances in the feet so as to minimize amputation. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is an effect of foot care education through videos on knowledge, attitudes, and skills in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The research method used a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest - posttest approach. The sample was 68 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the working area of the Mangkung Health Center in 2023 who were taken by simple random sampling technique. Data collection using a questionnaire and then analyzed with the Wilcoxon test. The results of the study before education were obtained most had poor knowledge as many as 64 respondents (94.1%), low attitudes 68 respondents (100%), and lack of skills 68 respondents (100%). After education, most of them had good knowledge 46 respondents (67.6%), high attitudes 65 respondents (95.6%), and good skills 61 respondents (89.7%). Statistical test results show the value of knowledge, attitudes, and skills obtained ρ value 0.001 < ɑ = 0.05. Abstract

Post-laparotomy pain is one of the major problems in nursing practice frequently experienced by patients after undergoing surgical procedures. Poorly managed pain can lead to discomfort, sleep disturbances, increased physiological stress, limited mobility, and delayed wound healing. Effective pain management is an essential part of enhancing patient comfort and accelerating recovery. In addition to pharmacological approaches, several studies showed that non-pharmacological interventions such as hand massage can serve as effective, safe, and easily applicable pain management. This study aims to identify patient’s outcome after receiving hand massage therapy using baby oil in reducing pain in post-laparotomy. The research design employed a descriptive quantitative case study approach. The subject was a single post-laparotomy patient at dr. Soebandi Hospital, Jember, experiencing moderate pain, as measured by the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The patient was given nursing care, and one of the interventions was hand massage, as well as pain relief medication. The hand massage intervention was administered twice daily for four consecutive days, with each session lasting 10 minutes. The patient's pain scale was observed daily. The results of the case study showed a decrease in pain from a scale of 6 on the first day to a scale of 3 on the fourth day Patient said that everytime he got pain medication, he still feel the pain, but the massage made it better. Therefore, this therapy can be considered as an effective therapy and applicable complementary nursing intervention in managing post-laparotomy pain
