Abstract

Invasif procedure is a procedure that is often performed on children. This procedure is related to needles that causes pain in children. Children who experienced pain during invasif procedure need treatment to avoid trauma. It is necessary to apply atraumatic care through the use of interventions that eliminate or minimize the psychological and physical distress suffered by children, one of which is the use of vibrators with music and cold compresses to minimize pain. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of giving a baby shark vibrator compare with vapoocoolant spray against pain in children undergoing invasif procedure such as injection and venipuncture. The researcher divided the respondents into 2 groups, the intervention group (baby shark vibrator) and the control group (vapocoolant spray) which are taken randomly with a total of 60 children participating in this study. The assessment of children's pain using the FLACC instrument (face, legs, activity, cry and consolability). The results of statistical tests showed that there was a no significant difference in pain in the intervention group and the control group (p=0.077). The use of a baby shark vibrator can be an alternative to reduce pain in children during invasif procedure because for some children, it is more convenient and distracting.

Abstract

Consumption of blood supplement tablets (TTD) during menstruation is one effort to prevent anemia. The Ministry of Health recommends taking one tablet supplements weekly and one tablet daily during menstruation. However, adherence of TTD consumption still low among adolescence. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of direct supervision of tablets consumption on hemoglobin level of adolescent girls. This research is a quasi-experimental with pretest-post-test with control group. Samples are female students of Islamic Boarding School at Bengkulu City. A total sample of 56 female students consisting of 28 intervention group and 28 control group was taken by systematic random sampling. Data were analyzed using t-test. TTD were given every day during menstruation until 2 months. Hemoglobin levels baseline were measured at the first day after menstruation and post HB level were measured at the third month of menstruation. The results showed that the baseline of mean HB in intervention group was 12.2 gr and control group was 12.74 gr and after intervention, the mean of HB increases in intervention group by 1.13 gr and in control group by 0.4 gr. There was a difference in average of hemoglobin levels before and after intervention between the two groups, the difference was 0.79 gr (p 0.000 < α 0.005). Supervision of TTD consumption by the closest person like teacher was important for students, it can promote adherence of TTD consumption, which can increase HB levels and lower anemia among adolescent.

Abstract

One of the treatments for appendicitis is surgery. Surgery will certainly cause post-operative pain that needs to be handled appropriately. If it is not treated immediately, pain in post-operative patients will slow down patient recovery, results in long hospitalization, prone the patient to a high complication rate, and require a lot of costs. Therefore, proper handling of post-operative pain is needed. In addition to drugs, non-pharmacological techniques can be a supportive treatment that proven to be effective. A non-pharmacological technique that can reduce pain is finger grip relaxation therapy. This study aims to describe the nursing care in a case of patient with post-operative appendicitis given finger grip relaxation therapy to reduce pain. This is a descriptive case study of an adult postoperative appendicitis patient with major nursing problems, acute pain. Results showed that the patients suffering level 6 of pain (moderate pain). The patient was given intervention including analgesic and supported with hand-held finger grip therapy in three days. The intervention was given three times a day, with a duration of 30 minutes. After given the intervention, the patient reported a decrease in pain level, into level 1 (mild pain). It can be concluded that nurses can apply finger grip relaxation therapy to provide nursing intervention or nursing care for post-operative patient to accelerate pain relief.

Abstract

Urinary retention after spinal anaesthesia and surgery ranges from 5%-70%, with men and the elderly at higher risk. This occurs because the urethral sphincter muscle does not respond to the urge to urinate and the patient is unable to feel the need to urinate. One treatment for this problem is providing hot pack media as a warm therapy in the suprapubic area. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of suprapubic hot pack therapy on the recovery of post spinal anaesthesia vesical urinary reflex. This quantitative study uses a quasy experiment design with a static group comparison approach. The population of this study was postoperative patients with spinal anaesthesia. The sample size was 60 respondents with accidental sampling. The research design has treatment and control groups, then measuring the results with observation sheets. Using the independent t-test for the analisys. The result showed the average recovery time of vesica urine was 225.5 minutes for intervention group and 295 minutes for control group with a p-value (0.000) < α (0.05), which means that there is an effect of suprapubic hot pack therapy on the recovery of vesica urine reflexes after spinal anaesthesia. Based on the results of this research, this procedure is an effective nursing intervention that can be applied in surgical inpatient rooms for the care of post-operative patients, especially in patients with spinal anaesthesia to speed up the recovery of the patient's bladder reflex.

Abstract

The quality of life of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) describes the degree of health and limitations that need to be evaluated to administer treatment. The purpose of this study was to identify quality of life based on patient characteristics. This research is descriptive with a cross-sectional approach. The sample size used was 87 adult patients with DM determined through purposive sampling techniques. This research was carried out from December 2021 to January 2022 at the Bangkingan Surabaya Health Center. Data was collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of this study showed that patients with DM who had a high quality of life were 50.6% and 49.4% showed a low quality of life. Based on the identification of patient characteristics data that describe the high quality of life are early elderly patients with an age range of 46-55 years (25.3%), female (39.1%), high school education (18.4%), and not working (33.5%). Other data obtained were patients with no family history (31.1%), duration of DM 1-5 years (26.5 and the majority using a single antidiabetic drug. Based on these data, patients still need to get continuous education to manage diabetes. blood glucose levels and can improve quality of life. The characteristics of DM sufferers can be an alarm that makes sufferers aware of the changes that occur in them. Patients who can recognize the characteristics in themselves will be able to maintain their quality of life.

Currently, the most widely used media in teaching nursing practice is social media in the form of WhatsApp and Telegram. The effectiveness of the implementation of cooperative learning, one of which is the STAD model in improving the quality of learning. The purpose of conducting research on improving the ability of nursing students in answering various Competency Test questions through the STAD model approach by utilizing social media WhatsApp. This study was a quasi-experimental study (quasi-experimental) with a research design in the form of a pre-posttest design with a control group (pretest-posttest control design) involving two groups, namely the treatment group and the control group. Both were given a pretest, and a posttest about learning the STAD method with WhatsApp media and was given an intervention. The study was conducted on July 14 to September 27, 2021 as many as 60 people. The results of the study stated that there was a significant difference in the ability to answer questions about the research subjects of the intervention and control groups in learning through WhatsApp online media (p <0.05). The increase in the average delta ability to answer competency test questions with the STAD method is better than without going through the STAD method, with d value of 56.95.

Compliance in taking medication was obtained using the MMAS-8 questionnaire. The data of patients’ medication adherence before and after using medication calendar, was analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed that there was a difference in the medication adherence level before and after the medication calendar intervention with a value of p = 0.000 < α = 0.05. The use of medication calendar is proven to be able to influence the medication adherence in diabetes mellitus patients. This tool can be an alternative way to increase medication adherence, as part of an important pillar in the management of Diabetes Mellitus.
