Abstract

Breast cancer is a disease in which cells lose their normal control mechanisms resulting in abnormal, rapid, and uncontrolled growth of breast tissue. One of the factors causing the high incidence of breast cancer is the lack of early detection education provided to adolescents. Consequently, knowledge and attitude of adolescents in conducting Self Breast Examination (SADARI) as an early detection of breast cancer is still lacking. In fact, there are still many adolescents who are unable to perform SADARI because they do not know how to do SADARI. Purpose of the studyto determine the effect of health education with booklet on the knowledge and attitudes of female adolescents in conducting SADARI at Kuripan Highschool. This research uses pre-experimental research design using one group pre-posttest with 65 female students as the respondents. The sampling technique used in this study was proportional stratified random sampling. The data consisted of primary and secondary data collected through interviews and questionnaires. The data processing technique used a Non-Parametric test, namely the Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test. The results showed thatbefore given health education, most respondents had poor knowledge (36; 56%) and had a negative attitude (36 ; 55%). After given health education, all respondents were included in good knowledge (65;100%) and had a positive attitude (37;57%). It can be concluded that there is an influence of health education using booklet on the knowledge and attitudes of female adolescents in doing SADARI (Breast Self-Examination) at Kuripan Highschool

Abstract

Hypoglycemia and hyperglechemia are frightening, dangerous, and potentially life-threatening for patients with diabetes. Nurses can act proactively and change the way care is provided. It is therefore necessary to develop safe and effective ways to proactively manage diabetes and hyperglycemia both in hospital and at home. One of the most important nursing actions to take is the provision of health education to patients. This study aims to identify the influence of health education using booklet in the knowledge of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental research design of one group pre-posttest design. The sample in this study was 32 respondents selected from the population of type 2 DM patients in Karang Pule Health Center. The instrument used was the DKQ-24 (Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire). Data on were analyzed using Wilcoxon test. The results showed that there was a difference in the average score between knowledge before and after health education (P = 0.000; p<0.05). The results of the study show that there is an influence of health education using booklet on the level of knowledge. This study signifies the role of nurses and the need of appropriate media such as booklet to educate patients with type 2 DM and increase their knowledge in managing stable blood glucose and preventing complications.

Abstract

Hypertension is the third leading cause of death in the world. Uncontrolled hypertension can affect the function of other organs. Efforts to control blood pressure including physical activity such as brisk walking exercise and qigong exercise. This study aims to identify the different of effect between brisk walking exercise and qigong exercise in lowering blood pressure of the elderly with hypertension. This is a research with quasy experiment design pre-posttest without control group. The sample 50 elderly with hypertension who was selected using purposive sampling, and divided into two intervention groups; each group totaling 25 respondents. The two groups were given brisk walking exercise and qigong exercise seven times in two weeks with an interval of days for every exercise. The results of paired t-test showed a p-value of 0.001 in the brisk walking exercise group and of 0.020 in the qigong (p-value <0.05). This means that the brisk walking exercise and qigong exercise, both have an effect on lowering blood pressure of the elderly with Hypertension in Gajahan Health Center. The results of the independent t-test in both groups for systolic and diastolic value are 0.894 and 0.357 respectively, meaning that there was no significant difference on the effect of the interventions in the two groups (p-value> 0.05). It can be concluded that there brisk walking exercise and qigong exercise are two kinds of exercise that can be implemented to lowering blood pressure among elderly with hypertension. There was no significant different on the effectiveness of the two exercise, thus, the elderly can choose one of the two exercises that suit their need the most.

Abstract

Cesarean section (CS) is a delivery method performed when vaginal delivery poses risks to the mother and fetus. Despite its benefit under certain conditions, the increase trend of CS without clear medical indications raises concerns from both clinical and epidemiological perspectives. The rate of CS deliveries in Indonesia has increased far exceeding the WHO’s ideal threshold of 10–15%. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of mothers undergoing CS at Haji Regional General Hospital Makassar in 2024 based on maternal age, parity, delivery history, gestational age, type of CS by timing, and medical indications. This study employed a descriptive quantitative design with a retrospective approach. Data were collected from medical records of 186 mothers who underwent CS during 2024. Univariate analysis was conducted using frequency and percentage distributions. The majority of mothers, aged 20–35 years (75.8%), had parity of 2 (34.4%), and had a history of previous CS (39.2%). Most pregnancies were at term (73.1%), and most CS procedures were elective (69.9%). The most common indications were previous CS (38.7%), oligohydramnios (7.5%), failed induction (6.5%), and preeclampsia (5.9%). The findings showed that younger mothers and primiparas were more likely to undergo CS due to cephalopelvic disproportion (CPD), fetal distress, and failed induction, while multiparas with a history of CS tended to have repeat procedures. High-parity mothers were more prone to severe complications such as uterine rupture and preeclampsia. These results highlight the importance of careful pregnancy monitoring and strict evaluation of CS indications to prevent unnecessary procedures.

Abstract

Indonesia is a disaster-prone country from a geographical, climatological, and demographic perspective. Its location between two continents and two oceans gives Indonesia high economic potential, yet also makes it vulnerable to disasters. Disasters always leave detrimental impacts, whether physical, psychological, or material. As the first line of response in a disaster, nurses must understand their role in disaster management and preparedness. Nurses are responsible for preparing themselves to gain the necessary knowledge and skills (competencies) to care for disaster victims and to achieve readiness for future disaster management. The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between self-efficacy and the preparedness of community health center nurses in disaster management efforts. The researcher used a descriptive analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The target population was 30 community health center nurses, selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used was a standardized questionnaire. The statistical tests used were univariate and bivariate analyses with the Spearman's rho correlation test. The significance value for the disaster preparedness variable was found to be <0.05 (p=0.032), meaning the research hypothesis was accepted. This indicates that there is a correlation between the variable of disaster preparedness and the self-efficacy of nurses in facing disasters. A strong correlation between disaster preparedness and self-efficacy among community health center nurses confirms that improving preparedness through training and simulations will directly impact nurses' confidence in handling emergency situations

Abstract

In the course of their lives, the elderly will experience all the limitations associated to health problems. Biologically, the physical endurance of the elderly population is weakening. This can be caused by a decrease in the structure and function of cells, tissues, and organ systems of the elderly body. It can be proven that the elderly group suffers more from diseases that cause a decrease in the ability to carry out activities compared to people who are still easy. Diseases and problems that are often faced by the elderly are easy to fall. Falling is a condition in which a person falls with or without being witnessed by others, accidentally or planned, with the direction of falling to the floor, with or without injuring himself. This study aims to determine factors affecting the risk of falling in the elderly at UPTD Puskesmas Motoboi Kecil. This study used a cross sectional design. The number of samples in this study were 35 respondents. Data analysis using the Chi-Square Test. 1. result showed that there was a correlation between the factor of visual impairment and the use of walking aids and the risk of falling on the elderly at the UPTD Puskesmas Motoboi Kecil with a P Value = 0.000 or <P = 0.05. 2. result showed that there was a correlation between visual impairment and environmental factors and the risk of falling on the elderly at the UPTD Puskesmas Motoboi Kecil with a P value = 0.019 or <P = 0.05. After the Chi- Square test was carried out, it was found that there was a correlation between the walking aid factor and the environmental factors at risk of falling on the elderly at the UPTD Puskesmas Motoboi Kecil with a P value = 0.002 or <P = 0.05.

Abstract

Hypertension is the main risk factor that leads to cardiovascular disease such as heart attack, heart failure and stroke, which is the highest cause of death in the world. One area with high risk of hypertension is the coastal area. The famous coastal area in the Lombok is Malimbu, located in North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Province. This research is an analytical observational study with a cross sectional design. This study aims to determine the correlation between smoking behavior and use of “used cooking oil” and the incidence of hypertension. Samples in this study were 70 people (n=70), and was taken using accidental sampling technique. Data were analyzed using chi-square. The results showed that the incidence of hypertension was 48% of the 70 respondents. Most of the respondents (70%), had no history of hypertension in their family. This research shows that there is no correlation between smoking behavior and the incidence of hypertension (p=0.807) with PR=1.156 (0.354 - 3.797). The use of “used cooking oil” was also found to be not correlated with the incidence of hypertension (p=0.632) with PR=1.275 (0.486 - 3.345). Although several previous studies showed that the smoking behavior and the use of used cooking oil correlate to hypertension, but this study result shows different data. This can be caused by other factors. Future research needs to examine the characteristics of smokers that may be related to the incidence of hypertension
