Abstract

This article examines the deconstruction of gender stereotypes in Nancy Ajram's song “Yā Banāt” through the combined lens of critical discourse analysis and gender performativity theory. It explores how the song challenges entrenched stereotypes of Arab women by integrating cultural and religious symbolism with elements of cultural hybridity that bridge Arab tradition and global modernity. The research analyzes the song’s lyrics, the visual language of its music video, and audience responses on social media to reveal how “Yā Banāt”  articulates an active, joyful, and emancipatory identity for young Arab women. The study situates this work within the broader context of Arab feminist and popular culture discourses, addressing the gap in Arab music scholarship that often overlooks popular music as a site of gender negotiation. By incorporating theoretical frameworks from Islamic and Arab feminism as well as postcolonial studies, the findings highlight how popular music can function as a culturally resonant tool for social change, fostering new narratives of femininity that are both locally grounded and globally informed. This contributes to expanding feminist theory within the realm of popular culture in the Arab world.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of applying David Ausubel's cognitive theory on students' Nahwu learning outcomes at Madrasah Diniyah Nurul Huda Malang. The research used a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. The subjects were 20 students who received learning treatment based on Ausubel's cognitive theory. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test results and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students' Nahwu learning outcomes after applying Ausubel's cognitive theory, as indicated by the Wilcoxon test (Z = -3.738, Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.05). These results suggest that integrating meaningful learning principles enhances students' ability to connect new knowledge with prior understanding, thereby improving conceptual mastery in Nahwu. Theoretically, this study reinforces Ausubel's claim that prior knowledge is a key determinant in cognitive development. Pedagogically, the findings encourage Arabic language educators to design learning experiences that activate students' existing knowledge structures to achieve deeper, more sustainable learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of qiyās within the framework of ushul al-sharf and to analyze its relevance as a productive instrument in the derivation of modern Arabic vocabulary. The research is motivated by the need for the Arabic language to adapt to the rapid advancement of science and technology through the systematic creation of new terms that remain faithful to its morphological principles. Using a descriptive-analytical approach and library research method, this study explores the theoretical foundations of qiyās in classical linguistic works such as those of Sibawaih, al-Anbari, and al-Marzūqī, and compares them with contemporary derivational practices in modern Arabic terminology. The findings reveal that qiyās functions as a morphological analogy mechanism that enables the formation of new lexical items in a systematic and rule-governed manner. Consequently, qiyās serves not only as a normative linguistic method in classical Arabic grammar but also as an innovative and adaptive strategy in modern morphological development, contributing to the enrichment and modernization of Arabic vocabulary in various scientific and cultural fields.

Abstract

Language serves as a vital medium for human communication, allowing individuals to express ideas, emotions, and knowledge. In Arabic language learning, speaking skill (mahārat al-kalām) is a core component that reflects communicative competence. However, current Arabic teaching practices often remain conventional, emphasizing memorization and grammar explanation rather than authentic speaking interaction. Learners frequently experience low motivation, speaking anxiety, and limited opportunities to practice in meaningful contexts. To address these challenges, this study aims to analyze the utilization of ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based conversational model, for developing mahārat al-kalām through a deep learning approach. Employing a qualitative descriptive method with literature analysis, this research synthesizes findings from recent scholarly works on Arabic language pedagogy, AI integration, and deep learning principles. The results reveal that ChatGPT can simulate authentic dialogues, provide real-time feedback, and promote reflective and contextual learning, aligning with the core values of deep learning. Furthermore, it offers an engaging, learner-centered environment that fosters communicative confidence and higher-order thinking. The study concludes that integrating ChatGPT into Arabic-speaking instruction represents an innovative pedagogical model for enhancing meaningful and transformative language learning.
