Abstract

The 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly sub-target 4.6, aim to enhance literacy and numeracy skills among adolescents and adults by the year 2030. This study analyzes the mahārat al-kitābah content in the Grade 2 Arabic textbook for Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI), published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs in 2020, from the perspective of Rushdī Aḥmad Ṭu‘aymah, and examines its role in supporting the SDGs. Using a qualitative method with content analysis as the primary data collection technique, the study finds that the textbook aligns with Ṭu‘aymah’s framework for teaching mahārat al-kitābah. The content includes recognizing the shapes of hijā’iyah letters, copying letters and words, writing simple sentences, and answering questions in written form. Overall, the mahārat al-kitābah content in the textbook supports foundational Arabic writing skills and contributes to the achievement of SDG 4 by promoting multilingual literacy, equitable access to literacy development, comprehensive language competence, and quality education.

Abstract

Parents play a crucial role in fostering children’s empathy and care for nature. However, in the modern era, these values are often neglected, leading to future behaviors such as indifference toward environmental destruction, improper waste disposal, and the exploitation of natural resources. Literary ecocriticism offers an alternative solution through children’s literature as a medium to instill ecological awareness. This study aims to explore forms of children’s sensitivity to nature in the short story Aṭfāl al-Ghābah by Muḥammad ‘Aṭīyah al-‘Ibrāshī, analyzed from a literary ecocritical perspective. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through reading and note-taking, then analyzed in three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that children’s awareness is reflected in behaviors such as obeying the deer’s advice, avoiding harm to animals, rejecting exploitation, expressing joy in the forest’s beauty, feeling sadness upon leaving it, and demonstrating awareness of forest preservation. This study suggests that children’s literature can be an effective medium for environmental education, helping to foster a generation that respects and protects nature.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the experiences of multilingual students in Brunei Darussalam in learning Arabic, with a focus on the influence of the Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) culture and identity on the language learning process. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through observations and interviews. The data analysis followed four stages: data collection, condensation, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the MIB concept plays a significant role in education, with Malay serving as the primary language of instruction and Arabic introduced as part of the Islamic heritage. Students’ experiences suggest that their linguistic backgrounds greatly influence their proficiency and comfort in learning Arabic. Despite the challenges encountered, support from family, lecturers, and close relatives serves as a motivating factor in their efforts to learn and use the Arabic language. These findings underscore the importance of understanding the interplay between multilingualism and culture in the context of language education in Brunei Darussalam, and they highlight the vital role of the MIB philosophy in integrating both Malay and Arabic within the national education system.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the results of observations, that Arabic language learning at Nusantara Islam High School is still dominated by the active role of the teacher. This is because in providing material the teacher only uses teaching materials without any learning media that is able to arouse students' enthusiasm in learning Arabic. This study aims to develop crossword puzzle media and describe its feasibility as an Arabic language learning medium. Researchers used the R&D method with the ADDIE development model. A total of 24 class X SMA Islam Nusantara were used as research subjects. The results of this study were the development of media in the form of an Arabic crossword book whose material consisted of 6 chapters in odd-even semesters and was compiled based on the 2013 curriculum Arabic language package. This crossword media received a very decent category, namely 82% from material experts and 88% from media experts. This product received a very positive response in trials on students with an average score of 89%. Based on these percentages, it can be concluded that the crossword puzzle media for the Arabic text reading skills of class X high school students is stated to be very valid and feasible to use.

Abstract

Arabic is one of the branches of the Semitic language family that still exists and continues to develop rapidly today. One indicator of this development is the presence of various dialects within the Arabic language. These dialects have spread across regions, from West Asia (the Middle East) to North Africa. As a result, what is known as fuṣḥá Arabic and ‘āmiyah Arabic emerged. Fuṣḥá is the standard form of the language, while ‘āmiyah refers to regional dialects. This research discusses the differences between Fuṣḥá Arabic and Yemeni Arabic. The study was conducted due to the lack of research explicitly addressing the distinctions between these two forms. This research explores how Yemeni Arabic is used in daily life and how it differs from Fuṣḥá Arabic. The method used is a literature review with a qualitative descriptive approach. The findings reveal several key differences between Fuṣḥá Arabic and Yemeni Arabic, which are categorized into three main aspects: vocabulary, phonology, and stylistics. These aspects are analyzed in detail, highlighting the linguistic distinctions between the two varieties.

Abstract

The issue of low motivation and poor student performance in Arabic language learning remains a major challenge in many educational institutions. One contributing factor is the continued use of monotonous and minimally interactive teaching methods. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of interactive audio-visual learning media, particularly PowerPoint-based presentations, in enhancing students’ motivation and learning outcomes in language exercise (tamrīn al-lughah) lessons. The research was conducted in the 2025 academic year at the Islamic Modern Institute Darussalam Gontor, Ponorogo, using a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental design. The study involved two groups: an experimental class that received instruction through audio-visual media, and a control class that followed conventional teaching methods. Statistical analysis using the Independent Samples T-Test showed a significant difference between the two groups. The experimental class achieved an average score of 8.48, while the control class only reached 6.32, with a significance value of 0.02 (< 0.05). These results indicate that interactive audio-visual media can significantly improve student engagement and comprehension in Arabic language learning. This study underscores the importance of pedagogical innovation, particularly the integration of multimedia tools, in creating a more dynamic and effective learning environment for foreign language acquisition.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the forms of vocabulary units and distinguish between the deep structure and surface structure of naẓm al-Jawhar al-Maknūn by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Akhdarī. The method used is descriptive, employing a theoretical linguistic approach. The analysis is based on Noam Chomsky’s theory of transformational-generative grammar to examine the syntactic structure of naẓm al-Jawhar al-Maknūn. The results of this study show that transformational-generative grammar can be applied to various forms of language. The conclusions are as follows: (1) the structure of naẓm al-Jawhar al-Maknūn is dominated by jumlah ismīyah (sentences that begin with a noun), with only a few jumlah fi‘līyah (sentences that begin with a verb); (2) structural transformations in the deep structure include deletions and replacements, while in the surface structure they involve mutations and additions to the sentence structure. Thus, this study contributes to the application of transformational-generative linguistic theory to Arabic grammar in the form of naẓm, whereas previous research has generally focused only on rhetorical aspects (balāghah), Arabic language teaching materials, and the grammar of the Qur’an.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the personality types of the main character in the short story al-Dunyā Riwāyah by Tawfīq al-Ḥakīm. The research is based on the view that personality in literary works represents the psychological aspects of characters, which can deepen the understanding of the plot and conflict. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a psychology of literature approach, applying Carl Gustav Jung’s theory of personality. Data collection techniques include reading, note-taking, and translation, while data analysis is conducted narratively through the stages of identification, classification, and psychological interpretation of the main character. The results show that the main character in this short story represents eight personality types according to Jung: introvert-thinking, introvert-feeling, introvert-sensing, introvert-intuition, extrovert-thinking, extrovert-feeling, extrovert-sensing, and extrovert-intuition. These findings reveal the character’s psychological complexity and may serve as a reference for future research exploring Arabic literature through a psychology of literature lens, particularly using Jung’s theory.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and describe the mentality of the main character in the series film Prophet Yusuf (as). The focus of the study is the character, traits, and temperament of the character based on their age development, as well as the didactic values contained within to refine the audience's mentality so that they remain optimistic in living their lives under the guidance of Allah SWT. The method used is qualitative research with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were analyzed using content analysis techniques based on psychological interpretation, which systematically and comprehensively reads and explains text through the showingmethod. The research findings indicate that the main character's mentality is divided into four developmental stages. As a child, he was obedient, steadfast, patient, and full of love. During adolescence, the spirit of influence, steadfastness in truth, keeping promises, and compassion for others emerge. In adulthood, the figure possesses a strong personality, does not succumb to evil, is patient in suffering, is knowledgeable, has noble character, is able to control desires, and is firm against the deceptions of Satan. During his reign, he demonstrated a trustworthy spirit in leadership and intelligence in overcoming problems, particularly in facing fourteen years of harvest and famine.
