Jurnal Pembelajaran Sains (Print ISSN: 2355-7044; Online ISSN: 2527-9157) provides a place for teachers, academics, lecturers, and students to share and discuss the results of their research in the field of science education. JPS publishes academic articles that focus on teaching and learning science from a range of basic education to higher education. This journal serves as a bridge between researchers and practitioners (teachers at every level of education) in sharing and providing information, ideas and opinions about the reality of education experienced by each. Science education which is included in the focus of JPS is not only limited to science education at the junior high school level. JPS also publishes academic articles related to the results of research in the fields of chemical education, physical education, and biological education for the level of basic education to higher education. JPS also does not close itself to publish academic articles related to the integration of science education with other disciplines, such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), geography, social education, and art. However, academic articles relating to research in the field of pure science and education in general (not related to science / Science education) will not be considered for publication by JPS. Academic articles in the field of science education published by JPS can be in the form of empirical research, such as the development / application of learning models and strategies, the development and innovation of teaching materials and learning media, and the development of learning evaluation instruments. Both the academic articles of experimental research and the results of classroom action research (CAR) are highly accepted for publication in JPS. All academic articles published by JPS must follow the applicable research rules and any data / research results can be justified by the author.

Abstract

The goal of Learning Basic Chemistry 1 is to help students comprehend the notion of chemistry and how it relates to circumstances, daily life, and technology. It adopts the vision and methodology of SETS. With this effort, students gain literacy in science, environment, technology, and society needed in the present and the future. In blended learning, time and location restrictions during field lectures are removed for both students and lecturers by using Skype. The development research is produced in the form of YouTube channels and vlogs, which are the current features of digital learning. Increasing students' comprehension of chemistry in SETS by exposing them to it as a science and allowing them to engage with it directly is another significant benefit of SETS learning.

Abstract

This research is based on the learning model traditionally applied to grade 7 science learning. The low mastery of science learning outcomes for the students of class VII Ibnu Batuta SMPN 2 Pangkajene. The purpose of this study was to see: (1) improve the presentation of mastery learning outcomes using Discovery Learning-based learning models assisted by interactive media, (2) improve learning outcomes using Discovery Learning-based learning models assisted by interactive media. Research method The technique used is Collaborative Classroom Action Research (PTKK). The data collection technique is based on the results of learning tests and observation sheets on the implementation of the learning model. The results showed that (1) the percentage of classical completeness increased from 16.12% in the very low category before the cycle, 48.39% in the low category in the first cycle and 96.67% in the very high category in the second cycle; (2) the category of increasing learning outcomes of class VII Science students at Ibnu Batuta SMPN 2 Pangkajene has increased from 0.37 in the moderate category to 0.68 in the moderate category with an increase of 0.31 in the medium category.

Abstract

This research analyzed the percentage of junior high school students' conceptual understanding of the topics of motion and force. The study employed a quantitative method with a sequential explanatory design and was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Kamal. The population consisted of all grade VII students during the 2023/2024 academic year. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, resulting in a sample of 28 students. Data collection methods included tests, non-test instruments, observations, and documentation. The indicators of conceptual understanding in this study included interpreting, exemplifying, classifying, inferring, and explaining. Based on the results, it was concluded that: (1) The percentage of students' conceptual understanding is generally low, averaging only 25%; (2) The highest percentage was observed in the interpreting indicator at 52%, while the lowest was in the exemplifying indicator at 4%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of differentiated learning based on learning styles on the material of the Earth and the Solar System on student learning outcomes. This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK) which was carried out in two cycles, namely Cycle I and Cycle II with each cycle consisting of four stages, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. Instruments in classroom action research used observation sheets of teacher and student activities and multiple choice written test sheets. Data collection techniques in the form of observation and written tests. The data analysis method used is quantitative for the analysis of learning outcomes and qualitative for the results of observations. The results showed that the completeness of the classical learning outcomes was initially 0% at the pre-cycle stage, then increased to 37,50% in Cycle I, and reached 78.13% in Cycle II after applying the differentiated approach. These findings indicate that differentiated learning has a positive impact on improving the completeness of students' classical learning outcomes in the context of this research.

Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) the implementation of learning using the 5E learning cycle model through magic card learning media, (2) the development of critical thinking skills, and (3) student responses after receiving the lessons. This research uses a pre-experimental design. The study was conducted with 8th-grade students at Sugio 2 Middle School. The research design was a one-group pre-test post-test design. The sample consisted of 64 8th-grade students selected through purposive sampling. To measure critical thinking skills, a critical thinking ability test with 10 essay questions was used. The observation results yielded an average value of 3.95 using the Ricketts scale. Student responses showed an average percentage of 92.24. Data analysis was performed using the N-gain test with a score of 0.292. Based on the results of applying the 5E learning cycle model through magic card learning media, students' thinking skills are categorized as effective.

Abstract

This research aimed to enhance science literacy skills in the aspect of competence related to interpreting data and scientific evidence using the problem-based learning model in science education at State Junior High School 16 Surakarta. The research method employed is collaborative classroom action research conducted in two cycles. Each cycle comprises four stages: 1) planning, 2) implementation, 3) observation, and 4) reflection. Data collection techniques involve pre-test and post-test questions on science literacy in the aspect of competence related to interpreting data and scientific evidence, consisting of five multiple-choice items in each cycle. The average results of science literacy in the aspect of competence, specifically interpreting data and scientific evidence indicators, in the first cycle were 57.30, and in the second cycle, it increased to 61.15. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the problem-based learning model can enhance science literacy skills in the aspect of competence related to interpreting data and scientific evidence in science education at State Junior High School 16 Surakarta.
