Abstract

There is a change in the cuci kampung tradition of the Jambi Malay community in Indonesia. This change is based on reinterpreting the sign attached to the tradition in question. This research is aimed at looking at this reinterpretation process. This research uses a descriptive-analytical qualitative method with a field and literature study as a background. Data was collected through interviews, observation, archiving and FGD. Apart from that, reading was also carried out on several related literatures. The collected data was analyzed using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory. This research produced several findings. First, the sign that is a reference in the cuci kampung tradition is the act of adultery which is sanctioned by stoning. Second, this sign is a reference for objects in the form of the cuci kampung tradition where the Jambi Malay community gave birth to this tradition with a traditional fine in the form of a goat or buffalo. Third, through reinterpreting the sign, the Jambi Malay community made changes to the cuci kampung tradition, both the procession and the traditional fines. The form of the procession became simpler, while the traditional fine changed into money

Abstract

Historical contact between the Indochinese and Malay worlds dates back to the early Bronze Age civilisations of the archipelago. It continued throughout the period of intense trade in the archipelago. Diplomatic relations between the Champa and Malay nations are not limited to economics, but have entered a more intense realm, such as politics, Islamic preaching to a small level, namely kinship. This journal article aims to discuss the history of the relationship between Malay Muslims and the Cham community, especially in building and empowering the Cham Muslim community in Vietnam in the past. The research method used is the historical research method, where source collection uses literature study techniques, with data analysis using interactive patterns. The analysis was carried out from the beginning of the research as well as during the process of analysing the research data sources up to the process of drawing conclusions. The results show that the study of the historical relationship between Champa and Malay has provided insights into the intense relationship between these two nations. This can be seen in how Champa and Malay work together to empower the Cham Muslim community in terms of social, economic, religious and political aspects. The relationship between Malay and Champa is not only romanticised in the past, but this relationship continues to be established and sustained on the basis of culture, humanity and religion.

Abstract

The translation of the Qur'an has a great contribution in understanding the Qur'an for non-Arabic people, especially Indonesians. One of the weaknesses of translating Arabic into Indonesian is the lack of Indonesian vocabulary. As a result, in some translations there is a loss of original meaning, such as in the translation of the Qur'an issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenag RI). The discussion in this article focuses on the meaning of the words "fuad" and "qalb" found in Surah al-Qashash  10 in the Ministry's translation verse. From this study, it is known that both words are translated using one word, namely "heart". In comparison with the original meaning and the interpretations of the scholars, it is known that the word "fuad" means "emotion" and "qalb" means "emotion that changes continuously". The difference in the meaning of the two words is so significant that it also affects the understanding of the content of the Qur'an. This happens because of the lack of Indonesian vocabulary, making it difficult to be the right equivalent in meaning. Thus, it is necessary to re-study the translation of the Qur'an so that it is closer to the original meaning. Terjemah al-Qur’an memiliki sumbangsih besar dalam memahami al-Qur’an bagi bangsa non-Arab khususnya bangsa Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of BAZNAS Kotamobagu City's productive economic empowerment program in improving the welfare of poor community groups. This qualitative research with a case study design uses primary data from in-depth interviews and secondary data from regulatory reviews and literature. The results show that the skills training program and provision of business capital by BAZNAS Kotamobagu City positively impact the financial independence of several poor families in the region. However, evaluating the program implementation also identified several substantial remaining challenges. First, the beneficiary selection process is still considered too bureaucratic and potentially subjective. Second, the low awareness of some communities in carrying out their zakat obligations so that the realization of zakat fund raising is relatively low. Therefore, it is recommended to improve the beneficiary selection system by utilizing data digitization to improve efficiency and validity. The principles of accountability, transparency and objectivity in the selection process by zakat managers also need to be upheld. On the other hand, it is necessary to intensify massive public socialization and education related to the urgency of paying zakat as well as the real impact of zakat on economic empowerment programs for the poor. Increasing this literacy is important to optimize the potential for collecting zakat funds in the region. With these improvements, the BAZNAS Kotamobagu City productive economic empowerment program model has the potential to be replicated and make a significant contribution to the national mission to alleviate poverty in Indonesia.

Abstract

Basic education is an important foundation in shaping the character and competencies of the younger generation, especially in the digital era characterized by the integration of technology in the learning process. This article aims to explore the application of the constructivist paradigm in basic education in the digital era, focusing on the relevance of pedagogical values that must be maintained. Through a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach, this study links the thoughts of Islamic education figures, such as Al-Ghazali and Ibn Khaldun, with the modern constructivist theories proposed by Marc Prensky and Jean Baudrillard. The research findings indicate that the constructivist paradigm, which emphasizes the active role of students in building knowledge through experience and interaction, is highly relevant in the context of 21st-century education. Technology, when well integrated, can enrich the learning experience and encourage collaboration and independent exploration. However, challenges such as the digital divide and teachers' skills need to be addressed through educational policies that support equitable access and professional training. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that by integrating constructivist values, basic education can become more adaptive and contextual, preparing students to face challenges in an increasingly complex world. This research makes a significant contribution to the education literature by bridging the gap between theory and practice, as well as offering guidance for education practitioners and policymakers.

Abstract

In the era of globalization in Brunei Darussalam, Islam and Malay culture continue to play a significant role in shaping the nation's identity. This role manifests in efforts to preserve the Islamic-Malay identity. The contemporary issue at hand concerns the degradation of local culture due to the penetration of foreign cultures, which has resulted in the erosion, and in some cases the loss, of indigenous cultural traditions. This article specifically examines the implementation of the Arabic-Malay script as a strategy to address the challenges posed by cultural penetration in the era of globalization, particularly during the reign of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in Brunei Darussalam. The method employed in this study is the historical research method, four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and explanation, which is the process of presenting the findings in writing. The findings of research, they are: First, the independence of Brunei Darussalam and its declaration as a Malay Islamic Monarchy (Melayu Islam Beraja) was not solely the will of the king, but also the will of the people of Brunei as a whole. Brunei Darussalam continues to uphold its cultural heritage under the leadership of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in the contemporary era. The second, research on these manuscripts serves as a preventive measure to protect local culture from foreign influences that might enter Brunei Darussalam due to globalization. Last, the educational and research initiatives are serious steps taken by the Sultanate government during Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's reign to ensure that Malay culture remains present and adaptable in any situation or condition

Abstract

The Qur'an, as a miracle of Prophet Muhammad SAW, contains various aspects of life, one of which is the event of Isra and Mi'raj, recorded in QS. Al-Isra, verse 1. This event describes the miraculous journey of Prophet Muhammad from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa and Sidrat al-Muntaha, marking the beginning of the obligation of the five daily prayers. This study focuses on the philological analysis of the manuscript Riwayah Isra Mi'raj by K.H. Ahmad Fauzan, which reflects nationalist values and illustrates the integration of Islam with socio-political contexts. Using a codicological approach, this research examines the history of the manuscript, its physical condition, and the content related to the verse of Al-Isra, in order to uncover the wisdom of the Isra Mi'raj event from a philological perspective. This study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of Islamic history and teachings, while enriching the field of philological studies in the context of Islam.

Abstract

This research explores Muhammad Abduh's thoughts on Islamic education reform and its implications in the contemporary era. This research uses qualitative techniques based on library research. This study concludes that Abduh's renewal of thought in the field of education includes several things. First, the rejection of Taklid and various schools of thought that limit freedom of thought. Second, criticism of tendentious books should be corrected to be in harmony with rational and historical thinking. Third, renewal efforts at al-Azhar as the main center of Muslims, with the belief that if this institution is good then society will also be good, and vice versa. Fourth, the revitalization of old works to unearth the intellectual heritage of Islam in history, while following the correct views that are relevant to present-day conditions. The implications of Muhammad Abduh's thoughts on Islamic education in Indonesia in the contemporary era are very significant. The educational reforms he initiated can be a foundation for facing the challenges of an Islamic education system that is still trapped in traditional methods and less responsive to technological developments. His thoughts on the integration of religious knowledge and modern science can help Islamic education institutions in Indonesia create a curriculum that is holistic, innovative, and relevant to the needs of the global community.

Abstract

The global environmental crisis has heightened attention to the concept of Mother Earth across various disciplines, including religious studies. This study aims to analyze the interpretation of Qur'anic verses regarding the relationship between humans and nature and to explore how these interpretations can be articulated within the framework of the Mother Earth concept. The method used is a literature review with content analysis of classical (Ath-Thabari) and contemporary (Al-Munir) interpretations of key verses, namely Q.S. Hud [11]: 61, Q.S. Al-A’raf [7]: 57-58, and Q.S. Ar-Rum [30]: 41. The findings reveal that while the term Mother Earth is not explicitly mentioned in the Qur'an, Islamic teachings present a comprehensive perspective on the human-nature relationship that resonates with the essence of this concept. The analyzed verses indicate humans' position as stewards and caretakers of the earth, the reciprocal relationship between humans and nature, and nature as a sign of God's power. This study concludes that the concept of Mother Earth aligns with the Qur'anic principles of environmental preservation and can serve as a practical foundation for equitable and wise environmental management and conservation efforts. The novelty of this research lies in integrating the concept of Mother Earth with Qur'anic interpretations, offering a new perspective on understanding the human-nature relationship within the context of Islam.
