Abstract

Many Malay Muslims face challenges related to social and economic development in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially those related to social justice and poverty. Conversely, the synergy between Islam and Malay customs has untapped potential in helping the general public to achieve the SDGs. The objectives of this study are to (1) examine how integrating Islam and Malaysian culture can improve the well-being of the general public, (2) identify factors that contribute to this collaboration in relation to poverty and well-being (SDG 1 and SDG 10), and (3) investigate the contribution of Islam and Malaysian culture in the development of an inclusive society (SDG 11 and SDG 16). The method used was descriptive qualitative, interview data collection using religious and secular texts, participatory observation, and document analysis. Data analysis was done thematically to identify factors that contribute to the well-being of the general public. The results showed that the synergy between Islam and Malay culture is crucial in enhancing social solidarity, poverty alleviation, and community development. The strong application of religious values and customs is proven to promote the achievement of SDGs at the local level and strengthen social cohesion. Keyword : Islam, Malay Culture, SDGs

Abstract

Artikel ini mengeksplorasi prinsip-prinsip etika komunikasi Raja Ali Haji dan Raja Ali Kelana, dua pemikir terkemuka dari Kesultanan Riau-Lingga, sebagaimana tercermin dalam Gurindam Dua Belas dan Kitab Kumpulan Ringkas Berbetulan Lekas. Kedua tokoh ini menekankan nilai-nilai universal seperti kejujuran, kesopanan, introspeksi, pengendalian emosi, penghormatan sosial, dan moderasi dalam berbicara. Raja Ali Haji, melalui ungkapan yang ringkas dan puitis, menekankan kewajiban moral untuk menjaga integritas dan menghindari tindakan seperti berbohong, menggunakan bahasa kasar, atau membuka aib orang lain. Sebaliknya, Raja Ali Kelana memberikan panduan yang lebih terperinci, menyoroti aplikasi praktis dalam berbagai konteks sosial, seperti menyesuaikan komunikasi dengan hierarki sosial (maqom), mendengarkan dengan penuh perhatian, dan menyelesaikan konflik dengan empati dan kebijaksanaan. Analisis ini mengintegrasikan perspektif dari etika Islam, deontologi Kantian, virtue ethics Aristotelian, Stoikisme, Konfusianisme, dan utilitarianisme, yang menunjukkan relevansi prinsip-prinsip ini dalam komunikasi modern. Aplikasinya meliputi penanganan tantangan dalam komunikasi digital, dialog lintas budaya, interaksi di tempat kerja, dan diskursus publik, di mana kejujuran, empati, dan moderasi dapat mencegah konflik serta meningkatkan pemahaman bersama. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan kajian lebih lanjut tentang analisis komparatif dengan tradisi lain dan integrasi ke dalam kerangka pendidikan serta etika digital. Dengan menghubungkan ajaran Raja Ali Haji dan Raja Ali Kelana yang bersifat abadi dengan tantangan komunikasi kontemporer, penelitian ini menegaskan signifikansi prinsip-prinsip tersebut dalam mendorong interaksi yang harmonis, saling menghormati, dan etis dalam berbagai konteks.

Abstract

Basic education is an important foundation in shaping the character and competencies of the younger generation, especially in the digital era characterized by the integration of technology in the learning process. This article aims to explore the application of the constructivist paradigm in basic education in the digital era, focusing on the relevance of pedagogical values that must be maintained. Through a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach, this study links the thoughts of Islamic education figures, such as Al-Ghazali and Ibn Khaldun, with the modern constructivist theories proposed by Marc Prensky and Jean Baudrillard. The research findings indicate that the constructivist paradigm, which emphasizes the active role of students in building knowledge through experience and interaction, is highly relevant in the context of 21st-century education. Technology, when well integrated, can enrich the learning experience and encourage collaboration and independent exploration. However, challenges such as the digital divide and teachers' skills need to be addressed through educational policies that support equitable access and professional training. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that by integrating constructivist values, basic education can become more adaptive and contextual, preparing students to face challenges in an increasingly complex world. This research makes a significant contribution to the education literature by bridging the gap between theory and practice, as well as offering guidance for education practitioners and policymakers.

Abstract

In the era of globalization in Brunei Darussalam, Islam and Malay culture continue to play a significant role in shaping the nation's identity. This role manifests in efforts to preserve the Islamic-Malay identity. The contemporary issue at hand concerns the degradation of local culture due to the penetration of foreign cultures, which has resulted in the erosion, and in some cases the loss, of indigenous cultural traditions. This article specifically examines the implementation of the Arabic-Malay script as a strategy to address the challenges posed by cultural penetration in the era of globalization, particularly during the reign of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in Brunei Darussalam. The method employed in this study is the historical research method, four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and explanation, which is the process of presenting the findings in writing. The findings of research, they are: First, the independence of Brunei Darussalam and its declaration as a Malay Islamic Monarchy (Melayu Islam Beraja) was not solely the will of the king, but also the will of the people of Brunei as a whole. Brunei Darussalam continues to uphold its cultural heritage under the leadership of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in the contemporary era. The second, research on these manuscripts serves as a preventive measure to protect local culture from foreign influences that might enter Brunei Darussalam due to globalization. Last, the educational and research initiatives are serious steps taken by the Sultanate government during Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's reign to ensure that Malay culture remains present and adaptable in any situation or condition

Abstract

Al-Qur'an sebagai mukjizat Nabi Muhammad SAW mengandung berbagai persoalan kehidupan, salah satunya peristiwa Isra Mikraj yang tercatat dalam QS. Al-Isra ayat 1. Peristiwa ini menggambarkan perjalanan agung Nabi Muhammad dari Masjidil Haram menuju Masjidil Aqsha dan Sidratul Muntaha, serta menjadi titik tolak diwajibkannya shalat lima waktu. Kajian ini berfokus pada analisis filologi naskah kitab "Riwayah Isra Mikraj" karya K. H. Ahmad Fauzan, yang memiliki nilai nasionalisme dan menggambarkan integrasi antara Islam dan sosial-politik. Dengan pendekatan kodikologi, penelitian ini mengkaji sejarah naskah, kondisi fisik, serta konten yang terkandung dalam ayat Al-Isra, guna mengungkap hikmah peristiwa Isra Mikraj dari perspektif filologis. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi dalam memperkaya pemahaman terhadap sejarah dan ajaran Islam serta memperdalam kajian filologi dalam konteks keislaman.

Abstract

The global environmental crisis has heightened attention to the concept of Mother Earth across various disciplines, including religious studies. This study aims to analyze the interpretation of Qur'anic verses regarding the relationship between humans and nature and to explore how these interpretations can be articulated within the framework of the Mother Earth concept. The method used is a literature review with content analysis of classical (Ath-Thabari) and contemporary (Al-Munir) interpretations of key verses, namely Q.S. Hud [11]: 61, Q.S. Al-A’raf [7]: 57-58, and Q.S. Ar-Rum [30]: 41. The findings reveal that while the term Mother Earth is not explicitly mentioned in the Qur'an, Islamic teachings present a comprehensive perspective on the human-nature relationship that resonates with the essence of this concept. The analyzed verses indicate humans' position as stewards and caretakers of the earth, the reciprocal relationship between humans and nature, and nature as a sign of God's power. This study concludes that the concept of Mother Earth aligns with the Qur'anic principles of environmental preservation and can serve as a practical foundation for equitable and wise environmental management and conservation efforts. The novelty of this research lies in integrating the concept of Mother Earth with Qur'anic interpretations, offering a new perspective on understanding the human-nature relationship within the context of Islam.

Abstract

This research discusses the implementation of Qur'anic values in agricultural practices through a Living Qur'an study in the AgriQuran community in Bandung Regency. AgriQuran is a community that integrates Islamic principles in sustainable agricultural activities to improve farmers' welfare and preserve the environment. This research uses a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, which involves the community actively in the research process and transformative action. The results showed that the AgriQuran community implemented various agricultural innovations based on Islamic values, such as the use of organic fertilizers, sustainable land management, crop brotherhood systems, and an economic approach without usury. The main programs include GreenHouse, AgriVisit, Green Alms, and empowering students through AgriPreneur. In addition, this community encourages an Islamic lifestyle for farmers by emphasizing the importance of worship, environmental care, and food security based on local wisdom. These findings confirm that the application of Qur'anic values in agriculture not only increases production yields but also brings positive social and spiritual impacts to the community. Thus, the Living Qur'an-based agricultural model in the AgriQuran community can be an alternative solution for sustainable agriculture in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research was conducted to explain and examine the urgency of customary institutions in forming obedient characters in the Malay community of Sungai Abu Kerinci-Jambi. The purpose of this study is to explain the existence of the customary existence of the Kerinci Malay community, legal compliance in the Kerinci Malay customary institution, the application of obedient character in the community, and the role of customary institutions in forming obedient character in the Kerinci-Jambi community. This research is a qualitative research because it formulates generalizations of the analyzed data based on the phenomena found. The descriptive-analytical method is the method used in this study. The results of this study show that the influence of customary law in the Kerinci Malay community provides awareness of compliance with customary law by the community. The implementation of the character of obedience to customary law and customary institutions in the Malay community of Sungai Abu Kerinci concerns all social activities of community life inhabiting the Malay customary territory of Sungai Abu Kerinci. Customary Institutions play an active role in shaping obedient character in the Malay indigenous people of Sungai Abu Kerinci. Indigenous institutions play a role in sheltering and channeling the aspirations of indigenous peoples; Serving the needs of indigenous peoples; Making a work program, namely regulating the work program of customary institutions for the community; Increasing public understanding, awareness and compliance with customary law; Making legal rules for people who violate the rules that have been set by custom and have been agreed upon by mutual agreement. These customary provisions are complied with and have become a form of the obedient character of the indigenous people of Sungai Abu Kerinci. This is an indicator that the cultivation of the character of obedience to customary law can be applied by the Malay customary institution of Sungai Abu Kerinci in the midst of its community.

Abstract

Abstract This paper aims to demonstrate al-Jailani's interpretation of the taharah verses which differ a lot from other interpreters. According to the author, many of the taharah verses understand it from the perspective of history and fiqh, in this study it will be understood by revealing the hidden meaning behind the verse. So that taharah in the spiritual domain can be implemented and can be interpreted widely, not only in fiqh and history but also in the perspective of spirituality. According to Sufi scholars, the Koran is not only understood with a historical approach. Because they believe that the Qur'an has an outer meaning (exoteric) and an inner meaning (esoteric). Through the 'irfani (illuminative) approach, they try to uncover the deepest meaning behind the Qur'an. This research is based on library research with the object being studied are the t}aharah verses in al-Jailani's interpretation using a hermeneutic approach. The concept of taharah according to al-Jailani is not only interpreted by cleaning hadas (rutial impurity) and najis (unclean) an sich. wider than that, taharah includes cleaning the heart and adorning it with noble character, so that a pious person can reach a high degree (fana') in the sight of Allah SWT. The concept of taharah presented by al-Jailani cannot be separated from the concepts of takhal, tahalli and tajalli. A student/salik can achieve this degree with the guidance of a murshid. Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengkaji dan memaknai model keberagamaan masyarakat Gorontalo, melalui konsep Islam Nusantara dalam bingkai pemikiran Gus Dur. Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah menjelaskan keterkaitan diskursus Islam Nusantara secara khusus melalui perspektif Pemikiran Abdurrahman Wahid, dalam menemukan gagasan implisit Islam Nusantara terhadap pola keberagamaan masyarakat Gorontalo, sebagai upaya mewujudkan nilai-nilai inklusif dalam beragama. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kualitatif yang sumber datanya diambil dari proses observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Sedangkan penelitian ini dilakukan sejak bulan Juli tahun 2022 sampai dengan bulan Februari tahun 2023, tepatnya di Kota Gorontalo.Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa Implikasi gagasan Islam Nusantara Terhadap Kultur Keberagamaan Masyarakat Gorontalo tergambarkan melalui dua poin penting yaitu; perwujudan nilai-nilai humanisme, serta Islam kultural dan sikap asketisme.
