Abstract

One of the factors that affect egg quality is the rearing system. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of fresh local duck eggs obtained from members of the Karya Mandiri Duck Farmers Group. Egg collection was carried out in turns for 5 days from 5 farmers who had ducks in the egg-laying phase. Each farmer was randomly taken 10% of the total egg production, so that 105 eggs were collected. The external and internal quality of the sample eggs were then measured at the Animal Product Processing Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, University of Mataram. The results of the study found that the internal quality of the fresh duck eggs observed was classified as very good, but the external quality of 50% was classified as low. The local duck eggs from Lombok, produced by the Karya Mandiri Duck Farmers Group, are mostly of high quality, with 50% classified as grade AA. It is recommended to improve the housing system to further enhance quality.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of the use of phytobiotic from turmeric extract and its combination with probiotics in the drinking water of KUB (kampung unggul Batilbantan) chickens on the characteristics of their carcasses, including their physical and nutritional characteristics. This study involved 24 randomly selected KUB chickens raised for 10 weeks. The treatment were P0 = control drinking water, P1 = Administration of powdered turmeric extract on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, P2 = Administration of powdered turmeric extract on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and probiotics on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The dose of turmeric extract used in each treatment was the same, was 0.5 g/L of drinking water, while the dose of probiotics was 1 ml/L of water. The study used a completely randomized design with three levels of treatment and two replications in each treatment. The variables observed were carcass weight and percentage, percentage of commercial cuts, nutrient content and antibiotic tests on meat. The results of the study showed that the administration of phytobiotics in the drinking water program of KUB chicken was not significantly different (P>0.05) in relation to the observed variables.

Abstract

The digestive system in animals plays a crucial role in nutrient utilization, supporting growth, productivity, and overall health. This study explores the effects of feed supplementation on fish and ruminants through a literature review, highlighting its impact on growth, survival, and productivity. Supplements such as inulin, turmeric, and Multi-Nutrient Sauce (MNS) have demonstrated their ability to improve feed efficiency, enhance gut health, and support organism development. In fish, inulin improves feed efficiency, promotes the growth of beneficial lactic acid bacteria and enhances overall growth, while turmeric improves survival rates, although its effect on growth is minimal. For ruminants, MNS supplementation optimizes digestion, metabolism, immunity, and productivity, contributing to increased weight gain and milk production. These findings highlight the potential of carefully tailored feed supplementation to enhance productivity and sustainability in aquaculture and livestock systems.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of fermentation with lactic acid bacteria Pediococcus pentosaceus on phosphorus content in rice bran. This bacteria is a probiotic isolated from animal intestinal microflora, with high colonization ability due to its suitability to the original environment. The study focused on the ability of the isolate to break down phytic acid bound to the bran, with the main indicator being an increase in phosphorus levels. The fermentation results showed the highest viability at an incubation temperature of 37°C, with a maximum number of 240 × 10⁸ CFU/g at 12 hours, but decreased thereafter. Although there was an increase in phosphorus levels, the results were not statistically significant (p>0.05) in both dry bran (P1) and wet bran (P2) treatments. The highest increase in phosphorus occurred at a temperature of 44°C (0.91±0.004%; +25%) and at 37°C (0.87±0.002%; +19%). This suggests that temperature affects the effectiveness of fermentation, but water content and incubation time may be limiting factors. Overall, fermentation of rice bran with P. pentosaceus did not show a significant increase in phosphorus levels.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the provision of bokhasi compost fertilizer from laying hens to mulato grass. To determine the significant difference in the growth of mulato grass that is given bokhasi compost fertilizer from laying hens and not given fertilizer. This study was conducted in the experimental garden of the faculty of science and technology, Muhammadiyah University of Sidenreng Rappang, Which was carried out from february to may 2025. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD), consisting of four treatments and five replications. The treatments tried were P0: Not using bokhasi manure from laying hens (control), P1: 95g Bokhasi manure/polybag. P2:135g Bokhasi manure/polybag. P3:175g Bokhasi manure/polybag. In this study, there were 4 treatments and 5 groups, resulting in 20 treatment units. The results of the diversity analysis showed that the treatment of giving chicken manure bokhasi fertilizer had a very significant effect on plant height, leaf length and number of shoots. And the best dose of chicken manure bokhasi fertilizer was 135g (P2). It was able to provide a better effect on increasing the yield of mulato grass plants.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of various carbohydrate sources on the temperature, liquid volume, color, and pH of local microorganisms (MOL). The research employed a descriptive and quantitative approach, using a completely randomized design (CRD) with three treatments and six replicates. The treatments included potato (P1), stale rice (P2), and cassava (P3). Parameters measured were temperature, liquid volume, color, and pH. Results showed that the type of carbohydrate source significantly affected (P < 0.01) temperature, liquid volume, and pH. The highest temperature was observed in the P3 treatment, followed by P2 and P1. The greatest liquid volume occurred in P3, then P2 and P1. Treatment P1 had the highest pH level, followed by P2 and P3. The color of the fermented liquid remained similar to that of the raw materials. The findings indicated that the P3 treatment, involving cassava, produced optimal fermentation results, characterized by low pH levels, suitable temperatures, stable liquid volumes, and color closely resembling the original ingredients.

Abstract

This study investigated the influence of slaughter age and sex on carcass dimensions in KUB chickens. A Randomized Block Design with a 2 x 4 factorial layout was used, incorporating two variables: sex (male and female) and slaughter age (4, 6, 8, and 10 weeks). Each treatment group included 10 chickens, evenly divided between males and females. The parameters measured included the length and width of the upper and lower thigh, wing length, and the length and width of the breast and back. The results showed that slaughter age had a significant effect (P<0.05) on all measured traits, including thigh and wing sizes, breast dimensions, and the back length and width. Sex also had a significant influence on upper thigh dimensions, breast length, and back size. Additionally, there was a significant interaction between sex and slaughter age for upper thigh size, wing length, and breast dimensions (P<0.05). The most substantial carcass measurements were observed in chickens slaughtered at 10 weeks of age. Male KUB chickens had carcass dimension was higher than the females.
