Abstract

Instilling Islamic values in early childhood is a crucial aspect of shaping children’s character and religious habits. However, research on the role of teachers in the process of internalizing values in Islamic early childhood education institutions remains limited. This study aims to analyze the role of teachers in the internalization of Islamic values through habit-forming practices at RA HS Muhdar Tapango. The study employs a qualitative, descriptive approach. The research participants consisted of one principal and two teachers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that teachers serve as educators, mentors, role models, motivators, and facilitators in the internalization of Islamic values. The internalization process is carried out through the habit formation of prayer, greetings, memorization of short surahs, religious practices, and the cultivation of Islamic ethics. This study offers a novel contribution in the form of conceptualizing the teacher’s role as a multidimensional actor within a habit-based value internalization model that integrates ritual and social dimensions. It is hoped that this study will serve as a reference for the development of values education in Islamic-based early childhood education institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the negative impacts of smartphone use on children aged 5–6 years and to examine parents' role in supervising smartphone use among children at TK Negeri 24 Buton, Waangu-Angu Village, Indonesia. The rapid advancement of digital technology has led to increased smartphone access among young children, raising concerns about developmental consequences, particularly during the critical golden age (0–6 years) when foundational social, emotional, and language skills are formed. This research employed a descriptive, qualitative approach to explore smartphone use in depth. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of 17 children aged 5–6 years, 1 classroom teacher, and parents as primary informants. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with validity ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that excessive smartphone use negatively affects children's development, particularly in social, language, emotional, and behavioral domains. Children exhibited decreased social interaction, limited two-way communication skills, difficulty regulating emotions (e.g., tantrums when smartphone access was restricted), passive behavior, and dependency on devices. Additionally, children became more easily distracted and less focused during learning activities. The study also identified that parents play a crucial role in supervising smartphone use, including setting time limits, providing accompaniment during use, establishing clear rules (e.g., no smartphones before bedtime), and redirecting children to more positive and educational activities (e.g., outdoor play, drawing). The study concludes that uncontrolled smartphone use can significantly hinder child development; therefore, optimal parental supervision is essential to ensure that smartphone use remains directed, balanced, and does not compromise children's developmental outcomes. These findings contribute to early childhood education by providing empirical evidence from a rural Indonesian context and offering practical recommendations for parents and educators.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the correlation between the use of traditional children's songs (lagu dolanan) during pre-learning activities and the socio-emotional development of children aged 5–6 years at TK Taman Indria 1, Malang City, Indonesia. Socio-emotional development in early childhood is a critical foundation for future mental health, academic success, and social competence. However, many kindergartens have not optimally integrated traditional songs as a structured pedagogical tool. This research employed a quantitative correlational design involving 100 children selected through saturated sampling from groups A1, A2, B1, and B2. Data were collected using observation sheets, teacher questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews, all developed based on standardized socio-emotional indicators and song implementation metrics. The findings revealed that lagu dolanan use fell into the high category (mean = 49.57, SD = 1.289), with 89% of children demonstrating consistent engagement. Socio-emotional development scores were also high (mean = 64.32, SD = 2.093), with 92% of children showing age-appropriate emotional regulation and social skills. Because the data were not normally distributed (Shapiro-Wilk p < 0.05), a Spearman rank correlation test was conducted. The analysis yielded a correlation coefficient of rho = 0.489 (p = 0.000, p < 0.05), indicating a positive, significant relationship between the two variables. These results suggest that more structured and frequent implementation of traditional children's songs during pre-learning activities is associated with higher socio-emotional development. This study contributes original empirical evidence from an Indonesian early childhood context, filling a gap in quantitative studies on culturally grounded pedagogies. The findings support integrating local wisdom into daily teaching practices as an affordable, engaging, and effective strategy for holistic child development.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the researcher’s observations, which showed that there were still several problems related to children’s interpersonal intelligence. The problem identified was that out of 18 children in group B3, 11 appeared to have a low level of interpersonal intelligence. This condition became the focus of further investigation because it could hinder their social and emotional development in the future. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of the effect of the talking stick learning model on the interpersonal intelligence of children aged 5–6 years at TK Islam Al-Moestafa, Jambi City. The method used in this study was a pre-experimental design in the form of a one-group pretest-posttest design. The total population in this study consisted of 60 children. The research sample included 18 children from group B3, selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through observation and documentation, with an observation sheet used as the validated research instrument. Data analysis was conducted using normality and homogeneity tests, followed by hypothesis testing using a paired samples t-test. The results of the t-test analysis showed a significance value of 0.001 < 0.05, which meant that there was a significant effect of the use of the talking stick learning model, providing a positive impact on the interpersonal intelligence of children aged 5–6 years at TK Islam Al-Moestafa, Jambi City. The effect size was 5.82, which fell into the strong effect category. Therefore, the talking stick learning model was effective in optimizing the interpersonal intelligence of children aged 5–6 years at TK Islam Al-Moestafa, Jambi City.

Abstract

Emotional regulation problems in early childhood are still frequently observed, such as children crying easily, becoming angry, withdrawing, and having difficulty expressing feelings verbally. These conditions indicate that children require emotional stimulation appropriate to their developmental stage. This study aimed to describe the implementation of art journal media in improving emotional regulation among children aged 4–5 years at TK Pembina ABA 54 Semarang. The study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, with three classroom teachers serving as the primary informants. Data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman model, encompassing data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The findings revealed that art journal activities were implemented through drawing, coloring, storytelling, and simple emotional reflection. Following routine implementation, the children became calmer, more communicative, better able to express their feelings verbally, and more capable of controlling their emotional reactions. Teachers also served as emotional facilitators by providing emotional validation and guidance during the activities. The study concludes that art journaling is effective in fostering emotional regulation in early childhood because it offers a safe and enjoyable space for emotional expression.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategies and methods for internalizing character values in early childhood through theoretical review and literature analysis. Early childhood is a critical period for character formation, as children aged 0–6 years are highly sensitive to environmental stimuli and social modeling. Despite growing recognition of character education’s importance, many early childhood education (ECE) institutions lack systematic, evidence-based guidance on which pedagogical methods are most effective for instilling specific values. Adopting a descriptive qualitative approach with library research methods, this study examines concepts, patterns, and empirical findings from 40 scholarly sources, including peer-reviewed articles, books, and policy documents published between 2013 and 2024. The analysis reveals that character internalization in early childhood must be implemented through concrete experiences, consistent habituation, social interaction, and authentic examples from significant adults. Three primary methods were identified as effective and complementary: modeling (keteladanan), storytelling or narrative (kisah), and simulation through role-play (simulasi). Modeling provides real-life behavioral examples; storytelling enriches moral understanding through relatable characters and conflicts; simulation enables children to practice values in authentic, peer-based contexts. Core character values emphasized include discipline, responsibility, honesty, empathy, religiosity, and multicultural awareness. The study also identifies key challenges: limited teacher creativity in designing engaging activities, inconsistent parenting styles between home and school, and the absence of long-term evaluation instruments. These findings underscore the necessity of tripartite collaboration among teachers, parents, and the broader community to ensure sustainable character development. This research contributes a practical, integrated framework for ECE practitioners and highlights gaps for future empirical studies, including comparative effectiveness research and longitudinal designs.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the primary strategies employed by working parents to foster secure attachment in young children amidst time constraints. The background of this study is based on the increasing number of working parents, which has the potential to affect the quality of emotional interactions with children during the crucial early developmental period. The study employs a qualitative, descriptive approach to understand parents’ subjective experiences within the context of daily life. The research subjects are working parents with young children, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, supported by observation  and documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results indicate that working parents employ parenting strategies focused on the quality of interaction, namely maximizing quality time, establishing consistent daily routines, and maintaining warm, responsive, and open emotional communication. These strategies allow children to continue feeling their parents’ emotional presence despite limited time together. Thus, the formation of secure attachment is not determined by the length of time spent together, but rather by the quality of interactions that are consciously and consistently built by working parents.

Abstract

Numeracy literacy is a fundamental skill for early childhood to understand basic quantitative concepts relevant to daily life, including simple entrepreneurial contexts that foster an entrepreneurial mindset from an early age. However, conventional learning methods often fail to connect abstract mathematical concepts with practical, engaging applications, necessitating the development of innovative learning media. This study aims to conduct the initial development stage of an educational mobile game called "NumBiz Kidz" based on simple entrepreneurship contexts to enhance early childhood numeracy literacy, with a primary focus on the Define stage (Needs Analysis) of the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the 4D model, limited to the Define stage. Data collection techniques included observation, in-depth interviews with early childhood teachers and education experts, and document review of curricula, social arithmetic materials, and entrepreneurship case studies from broiler chicken MSMEs in Tembokrejo, Pasuruan. Instruments included observation sheets, semi-structured interview guidelines, and a document review matrix. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods following Miles and Huberman's interactive model. The findings from the Define stage revealed high urgency for technology-based learning media (mobile games) that explicitly integrate basic numeracy literacy with simple entrepreneurship concepts (e.g., buying and selling, profit, loss) that are contextual and appropriate for early childhood characteristics. Learner analysis indicated that children preferred bright colors (40%), cute characters (35%), and instant rewards (25%). Task analysis produced a simplification matrix that transformed real business concepts (e.g., strategic profit optimization, cost of goods sold calculation, change calculation) into game missions that teach addition, subtraction, quantity comparison, and duration concepts. The final output is a Product Specification Blueprint including functional requirements (simple store, inventory, change calculator, coin leaderboard) and non-functional requirements (Android/iOS platform, 2D animation, inclusive characters).

Abstract

Flexibility of movement is an important aspect in the gross motor development of early childhood, especially in the age range of 4-5 years. The results of initial observations at KB Golden Kids Bululawang showed that only 5 out of 14 children achieved completeness in flexibility of movement. This study aims to determine the application of creative dance art in improving children's flexibility of movement. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two learning cycles, each consisting of the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation and documentation. The results of the study showed an increase in children's flexibility of movement, which was marked by an increase in the average value of 58.03% in the first cycle with the category of Starting to Develop (MB), and increased to 77.08% in the second cycle with the category of Developing Very Well (BSB), this increase indicates that creative dance art can stimulate children's flexibility of movement. This study concludes that creative dance art can improve flexibility of movement in early childhood, and can be a fun and useful learning alternative for PAUD teachers.
