Abstract

Social media TikTok has become a media that is quite popular among teenagers. The massive use of social media TikTok among teenagers makes it a powerful socialization agent in forming self-concept. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods to determine the self-concept of teenagers using TikTok social media. The research was carried out using in-depth interviews and observations of purposive sampling of informants involving 5 teenage users of the social media TikTok. The primary data used in this research is the results of interviews with informants, while the secondary data is in the form of books and relevant literature studies. The data obtained was then analyzed using the Looking Glass Self (Cooley) theory. The findings obtained in this research indicate that a positive view of the video content or comments uploaded will form a positive self-concept in teenagers who use the social media TikTok. On the other hand, having a negative view of the video content or comments uploaded will form a negative self-concept in teenagers who use the social media TikTok. This self-concept develops based on the reflections of teenage TikTok social media users on other people's views on uploaded video content or comments.

Abstract

This article discusses the local wisdom of the Muna people, which is reflected in the Kasalasa tradition, a ritual performed before starting agricultural activities. This ritual begins with clearing new land, planting crops, and showing the close relationship between agricultural activities and natural resource conservation. An ethnographic approach was used in this research to understand the farming culture of the Muna people, especially in the context of shifting cultivation. The data presented were qualitative and analysed descriptively to facilitate understanding. The results of the study showed that the Kasalasa Tradition has many values and functions, including norms and customs that are adhered to by farmers as a guide in farming. Revitalising this tradition can become a reference for the Muna people and society in general in supporting sustainable agriculture while still paying attention to the sustainability of natural resources. Maintaining local wisdom, such as the Kasalasa tradition, is essential to ensuring that agricultural practices are sustainable not only from an economic perspective but also from an environmental and socio-cultural one. By strengthening the values and norms contained in this tradition, people can develop agricultural systems that are environmentally friendly and sustainable for the future.

Abstract

The condition of oil palm fruit in Pasir Emas village has decreased in quantity or commonly referred to as "trek", so this disturbs and even reduces half of the tauke's income. In addition, erratic price fluctuations, the number of sorting or factory pieces that reach 300 to 500 kilograms, as well as the large number of tauke expenses due to the rainy season and damaged road conditions and other expenses also affect the stability of capital and business continuity of the tauke, so that oil palm tauke needs a strategy to retain customers. The purpose of this research is to see the tauke's strategy in retaining customers in Pasir Emas Village. In this study, there are three strategies used, namely alternative livelihood strategies, tighter belt strategies and relationship strategies. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques namely interviews, documentation and observation. The results show that the relationship strategy used by the tauke is to provide assistance and priority to customers, listen to complaints, be friendly and communicate well with customers, pay customers' fruit on time, weigh customers' fruit appropriately, and cooperate with other parties. The strategies used to tighten the belt are repairing road damage, selling fruit to the nearest factory, and saving money. The alternative livelihood strategy used by the Tauke is to have a second job.

This research aims to analyze the knowledge system of women from the Enggros tribe regarding mangrove forests and their utilization patterns. Descriptive qualitative research employs an ethnographic approach. We conducted the research in both Tobati village and Enggros village. Data collection techniques used include in-depth interviews, observations, and literature reviews. We determined the informants through a snowball method, selecting the village head as the primary informant. Interview guidelines, picture and sound recording devices, and field notebooks were among the instruments used. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, presentation, verification, and conclusion drawing. The results demonstrated that the women's knowledge system of the Kampung Enggros Mangrove Forest encompasses their understanding of the mangrove forests. This includes their understanding of when to search for shellfish before entering the mangrove forest area (ton), how to search for shellfish about the prohibition on men entering the mangrove forest area (ton), and their understanding of the results obtained from the mangrove forest area (ton). Additionally, the women of Enggros Village uphold deeply ingrained traditional values in their customs, ensuring their continued adherence to the customs and traditions that endure to this day. Abstract

The Sundanese gastronomic tradition exhibits many cultural elements, including folklore, spiritual values, and mythology. It also encompasses a multitude of traditions, which collectively offer significant potential for further growth and development. One promising avenue for this growth is incorporating tourism approaches prioritising cultural resource conservation. Nevertheless, there currently needs to be more research investigating this potential, particularly concerning Sundanese plant-based gastronomy, which could be exploited as a distinctive feature of the city's tourism identity. This study examines the potential of gastronomy tourism as a strategy for preserving traditional Sundanese plant-based food and the role of Salapan Cinyusu in addressing related issues. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis. The descriptive analysis technique was used to comprehensively explain, describe and evaluate the social and cultural facts found in the field. The findings indicated that there is still considerable scope for improvement in preserving and developing gastro-tourism in Bandung. Furthermore, there is a need for greater collaboration between the various elements of Salapan Cinyusu to realise Bandung's potential fully.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the form of shift in the implementation of rebu and the factors causing the shift in the implementation of rebu ngerana using Malinowski's Cultural Contact Theory approach. The research took place in Tanjung Sawit Village, Tapung subdistrict, Kampar district. Data collection techniques were obtained by observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation using the Miles Huberman model of qualitative data analysis. There were 8 research subjects consisting of 2 key subjects and 6 main subjects who were selected in a planned manner using purposive sampling techniques. The results of the research show that there has been a shift in the implementation of rebu ngerana, namely in the form of communication between rebu perpetrators, how to sit in the same room, sit on one mat, and there has been physical contact between rebu perpetrators which is not permitted by tradition. The factors causing the shift in the implementation of rebu ngerana are due to cultural mixing, namely the intermarriage of the Karo Batak tribe with other tribes, the influence of communication technology through social media, environmental factors which are transmigration villages, the non-implementation of customary change events, as well as situational and conditional factors.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the perceptions of ethnic Chinese about education, determine the cultural values of ethnic Chinese that influence education, and determine the preferences of ethnic Chinese parents in choosing formal education and non-formal education. The research method used is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were obtained from observation, interviews, and documentation using data analysis techniques in data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions drawing. The theory used in this research uses Lev Vygotsky's sociocultural theory. This theory teaches that the social environment, including parents and friends, influences children's learning development. The research results show that ethnic Chinese place great importance on education, one of which is ethnic Chinese parents who send their children to high school because they have the view that education is essential in order to have a bright future. Education is also inseparable from the cultural values of ethnic Chinese, such as honesty, discipline, politeness, enthusiasm and the cultural value of hard work. These cultural values greatly influence perceptions about education and success in achieving the future. Parents have good preferences when choosing formal education, one of which is the quality of the school and the distance between the school and where they live. Not only formal education but ethnic Chinese parents also prefer non-formal education, namely the quality of good study guidance and the talents or abilities of their children.

Abstract

The construction of toll roads is a national government development project aimed at connecting various regions with faster and easier transportation routes. The construction of toll roads brings various impacts on the surrounding environment, both positive and negative, especially in the areas they pass through. Toll road development is one of the essential infrastructures designed to improve connectivity and transportation efficiency between regions. However, the impact of toll road construction on traders, both small and large, often becomes a significant concern. This study aims to analyze the impact of toll road construction on "Lopek Bugi" traders, particularly those operating around the Lake Bingkuang area, Tambang District, Kampar Regency. The research method used is a descriptive quantitative approach. The sampling technique used is census sampling, where the entire population is considered as the sample. In this study, data processing and analysis are conducted using frequency tests with SPSS. Based on field research and data analysis, it was found that toll road construction has varied impacts. On one hand, better accessibility can increase market potential for traders located in areas farther from the city center. On the other hand, traders directly affected by toll road construction often experience a decline in income due to the loss of customers, disruptions in traffic flow, or even the closure of their stalls.
