Abstract

This study aims to improve the students writing description skills of class XI through the application of the field trip method located at Senior High School 3 Wajo. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR), which is aimed to improve the quality of learning practices in the classroom. The collected data were analysed critically by comparing the results of the actions in each cycle. The results obtained from this study include: (1) the application of the field trip method can improve writing learning. This is indicated by the increased activeness, attention, concentration, interest, and motivation of students in learning to write descriptions. (2) the application of the field trip method can improve students' ability to write descriptions. This is indicated by the increasing value of the students' writing. In cycle I the lowest score of students was 59 and the highest score of students was 82, while in cycle II the lowest score of students was 64 and the highest score of students was 95, (3) the completeness of student learning outcomes increased. In the first cycle the completeness of the learning outcomes was only 48% or 12 students and in the second cycle it was 96% or 24 students. The conclusion of this study is that the application of the field trip method can improve students' ability to write descriptions.

Abstract

James P. Spradley (2006) argues that a language is a tool for constructing reality. The term of non-indigenous for Indonesian-Chinese people continuously exists, even though they are legally Indonesian. It cannot be denied that friction between Indonesian-Chinese and Indonesian non-Chinese still occurs, even though the integration is getting better. For this reason, researchers want to broaden the view of Chinese people's life from childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. In this study, the researchers used ethnographic methods to explore and telescope the story of growing up. According to James P. Spradley (2006: 5), ethnographic research aims to find the meanings of actions from events that happen to people we want to understand. A number of meanings are conveyed through language. This is a continuation of the previous study which have presented the results of interviews with three informants. This study will discuss the results of interviews with three other informants. Three informants were interviewed, namely three women named Mei (44 years old), Henny (43 years old) and Devi (22 years old) live in a fairly close location in the province of Banten. Mei and Devi, who are from the lower middle class, do not feel the difference between themselves and other children in Indonesia, even though they are both Indonesian-Chinese. Mei is more focused on issues of social and economic status that distinguish her from other children, while Devi is more focused on the departure of her father from the family. On the other hand, Henny as a child experienced restrictions on socializing from her parents with non-Chinese friends due to fears of being bullied. However, as she grew older, she became freer to choose her associates with non-Chinese friends, and she had quite a pleasant experience.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis (1)adanya perbedaan antara keterampilan menulis Bahasa Inggris dan efikasi diri antara siswa yang belajar dengan model pembelajaran peer-instruction flipped classroom berbantuan Google sitess dan Grammarly dan model pembelajaran direct instruction, (2) perbedaan keterampilan menulis Bahasa Inggris antara siswa yang belajar dengan model pembelajaran peer-instruction flipped classroom dan model pembelajaran direct instruction, (3) perbedaan efikasi diri Bahasa Inggris siswa dengan penerapan model pembelajaran peer instruction flipped classroom dan model pembelajaran direct instruction. Populasi panelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 3 Selat tahun pelajaran 2022/2023 yang terdiri dari tujuh kelas. Pemilihan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik Random Sampling dimana dua kelas digunakan sebagai sampel. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian quasi experiment dengan rancangan Non Equivalent Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan tes keterampilan menulis dan kuisioner efikasi diri. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan MANCOVA dengan keterampilan menulis dan efikasi diri awal sebagai kovariat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) terdapat perbedaan antara keterampilan menulis Bahasa Inggris dan efikasi diri antara siswa yang belajar dengan model pembelajaran peer-instruction flipped classroom berbantuan Google sitess dan Grammarly dan model pembelajaran direct instruction, (2) terdapat perbedaan keterampilan menulis Bahasa Inggris antara siswa yang belajar dengan model pembelajaran peer-instruction flipped classroom dan model pembelajaran direct instruction, (3)terdapat perbedaan efikasi diri Bahasa Inggris siswa dengan penerapan model pembelajaran peer instruction flipped classroom dan model pembelajaran direct instruction.

Abstract

The aims of the research were the researcher wanted to find out what are the factors affecting the Caused Writing Anxiety for the Essay Writing Course at English Education Study Program of UKI Toraja and what is the most factor Caused Writing Anxiety for the Essay Writing Course at English Education Study Program of UKI Toraja. In analyzing the data of this research, the researcher employed quantitative method. The subjects of this research were the fifth semester students at English Education Study Program of UKI Toraja. There were 120 the fifth semester students of English education study program of UKI Toraja academic year 2021/2022. There were twenty one students as the samples in this research chosen by using purposive sampling technique The data of those research was collected by doing interview supported by questionaire through google form. The obtained data were analyzed by likert scale. The finding obtained from the analyses of the related data show that the students faced three factors that caused writing anxiety (communication apprehension, test anxiety, and fear of negative evaluation), and the most factor was communication apprehension.

Abstract

The slang is one of the language variations recently used mostly in the English students’ daily interaction. The students use this language variation in various types and reasons. This paper reports the results of a qualitative study which is aimed at finding and exploring the types of the slang language and the reasons of using slang in students interaction. It is used as the method to describe the result of a process based on the category that has been determined. The data are collected from document analyses and close-ended questionnaires and are analyzed by using the interactive model of data analysis: data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion/verification. The study finds that the types of the slang language used in the students’ interaction show various results in each type. The first highest result is the acronym (33 words or 39.75%). The second is clipping 23 words or 27.71%). The third is fresh and creative coining (16 words or 18.39%). The fourth is compounding (eight words or 9.19%). The lowest is imitation (five words or 5.74%). In relation to the reasons for the language slang use, seven reasons are found. The first reason is to enrich the language by inventing new words (Freq=15; 17.85%). The second reason is to induce friendliness (Freq=14; 16.70%). The third and fourth reasons are to be different and easing social intercourse (Freq=13; 15.47%). The fifth reason is to reduce seriousness of conversation (Freq=11; 13.09%. The sixth reason is to have fun (Freq=10; 11.90%. The last reason is to have delights in virtuosity (Freq=eight; 9.52%).

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the students’ perspectives on Microteaching impact on their performance in PLP II program at the sixth semester students of English Education Study Program. This research used qualitative method. The informant of this research were students of English Education Study Program who had followed microteaching and PLP II Program. The writer used snowball sampling technique and stopped at 21 students to interview as informants, because the data were already saturared. The data of this research was collected by interview. The writer ued semi structure interview. The obtained data were analyzed in three major phase namely reduction, data display and conclussion. The resut of this research, is microteaching helped the students used expressions to opening and closing class, helped the students to manage time in learning process, boost their self-confidence, improved teaching skill, and as media to received upbuilding suggestions to expand their ability in teaching process. and also, microteaching as a media to apply the teaching comptence. Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai moral adat, nilai moral religius, nilai moral hukum, nilai moral budaya, nilai moral berdasarkan prinsip sikap baik, dan nilai moral berdasarkan prinsip keadilan. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik dokumentasi, teknik visual, teknik rekam, teknik catat, teknik pustaka. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah kutipan, kata, dialog, kalimat, yang memuat nilai moral adat, nilai moral religius, nilai moral hukum, nilai moral budaya, nilai moral berdasarkan prinsip sikap baik, dan nilai mora berdasarkan prinsip keadilan. Hasil penelitian ini ditemukan 3 nilai moral adat, 15 nilai moral religius, 10 nilai moral hukum, dan 8 nilai moral budaya. Sementara itu, nilai moral yang mengacu pada ketujuh prinsip sikap baik ditemukan sebanyak 20 data. Dalam data tersebut diuraikan dengan rincian sebagai berikut, terdapat 8 data prinsip jujur, prinsip otentik ditemukan 4 data, 3 data yang ditemukan dalam prinsip tanggung jawab, 2 data berikutnya terdapat alam prinsip keberanian moral, 1 data ditemukan dalam prinsip rendah hati, dan 2 data ditemukan dalam prinsip realistik dan kritis. Nilai moral yang terdapat pada prinsip keadilan dibagi menjadi tiga, yaitu adil dalam bersikap ditemukan 4 data, adil dalam mengambil keputusan ditemukan 2 data, dan adil dalam menolong orang lain ditemukan 6 data, sehingga ditemukan sebanyak 12 data yang mengacu pada prinsip keadilan.

Abstract

Penelitian mengkaji sebuah film dengan menggunakan kajian sosiologi sastra model Ian Watt. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: (1)konteks sosial pengarang; (2)sastra sebagai cerminan masyarakat; (3)fungsi sosial sastra dalam film Uang Panai’ Maha(r) oleh Amril Nuryan. Penelitian ini menggunakan Jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deksriptif yang mendeskripsikan wujud sosiologi sastra. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik dokumentasi dan teknik wawancara. Hasil dari penelitian yang telah dilakukan mendeskripsikan dalam film Uang Panai’ Maha(r) oleh Amril Nuryan mengandung aspek sosiologi sastra, yaitu: konteks sosial pengarang film Uang Panai’ Maha(r) oleh Amril Nuryan sebagai produser, sutradara, konseptor film dan melakukan pekerjaan lain. Amril Nuryan tidak pernah menganggap bahwa pekerjaannya adalah suatu profesi karena Amril Nuryan merasa dengan memiliki banyak pekerjaan itu bisa menambah ilmu dan pengalamannya. Sastra sebagai cermin masyarakat dalam film Uang Panai’ Mahal menunjukkan Uang Panai’ sangat berpengaruh besar terhadap pembatalan sebuah pernikahan, dan fungsi sosial sastra menunjukkan adanya nilai-nilai sosial seperti religius dan nilai moral (percaya diri, rajin menabung). Film Uang Panai’, mengisahkan tentang cerminan sosial tradisi Suku Bugis-Makassar, yaitu uang panai’ dengan tujuan untuk hiburan kepada khalayak, pendidikan moral dan karakter, serta memberikan informasi bagi masyarakat dalam kehidupan bersosial. Penerapan nilai-nilai moral dan religius yang terdapat dalam film Uang Panai’ Maha(r)l, sangat baik dijadikan contoh untuk pendidikan karakter dengan tujuan membentuk individu ke arah yang lebih baik.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to depict the issues of racial discrimination from white to black and their struggle and resistance against it in selected poems. The poems are taken from The Tradition (2019) by Jericho Brown and Eulogy (2018) by Emtithal Mahmoud. This study collected and analyzed data using qualitative research that explains the data into essay descriptions. This study uses a Postcolonial perspective from Loomba's theory of racial discriminations seen from contexts of identity, race, and class (2015). The results of this study indicate that in selected poems from Jericho Brown and Emtithal Mahmoud describe issues of multiple acts of racial discrimination since colonial era, being positioned in the lower economic class, and experiencing genocidal practices. In the end, the discriminated black people struggle and resist against their oppressors for equality.
