Abstract

This study’s purpose is to identify the most necessary attributes of a modern psychologist through a survey of practical psychologists, teachers, and students from the Faculty of Psychology, Toraigyrov University. The survey allowed us to develop an effective training program for psychologists. The study involved 115 respondents from Kazakhstan, 60 of them were future psychologists. The respondents took the survey to determine the key attributes of a modern psychologist. The research was also based on literature analysis and generalization, questionaries, and ranking. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was utilized to assess the reliability of the authors’ questionnaire items. SPSS Statistics program was applied for statistical data processing. According to the results, 80% of practical psychologists wanted to improve the curriculum for their students. At the same time, 72% of students believe that the program should primarily be practice-oriented. The students unanimously noted the key quality of the psychologist–empathy. The vast majority (94.1%) mentioned moral principles, and 85.7% indicated authenticity. However, teachers and psychologists did not emphasize the above criteria. The current study aims to develop a basis for an effective training program for future psychologists studying at the universities of Kazakhstan according to their modern needs.

Abstract

Gotong royong is a significant character for Indonesian generation Z (Gen-Z), based on traditional values, to unite this multicultural nation. However, the rapid development of digital media has the potential to alter traditional values. Gen-Z has the ability to quickly adapt to this technology. However, there is a concern that the gotong royong character may decline with the rise of digital media. This research investigates the perception of Gen-Z towards the gotong royong character and explores the way to preserve this value. This is qualitative descriptive research, whose population is made up of 108 students from six excellent schools in three Indonesian cities with different religious backgrounds and educational systems. The results show that Gen-Z still considers the gotong royong value is important. However, they also acknowledge that it can be threatened by the advancement of digital technology. With this awareness, Gen-Z can explore ways to adopt digital technology to preserve this character value, such as utilizing digital learning in club study and digital fundraising. This research recommends optimizing the school institution to take a more active role in fostering character through online character-building learning.

Abstract

This study systematically reviews and analyzes previous studies’ literature to identify the research gaps and the steps that must be taken for research on critical thinking in further mathematics education. Two methods, namely bibliometric analysis and descriptive content analysis, were used to achieve this goal. Data for the bibliometric analysis was obtained from the Scopus database, with the keywords “critical thinking” and “mathematics” Documents accessed are limited to the publication range of 2012-2022. The results show that the number of critical thinking research in mathematics has increased significantly, with a peak in 2021 of 65 articles; the United States has the most research and citations. The source that received the most citations was the journal Educational Studies in Mathematics. The evolution of the theme of critical thinking in mathematics began to link critical thinking with collaboration learning, mathematics education, teacher education, engineering, education, and collaborative learning. The quantitative approach with a student sample, tests as data collection instruments, and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) method is the methodology most often used by researchers. The results of this study are likely helpful for other researchers who will examine critical thinking skills in mathematics, namely as a research guide that they will develop. In addition, the existence of several research gaps can motivate other researchers to fill these gaps to contribute to improving the quality of critical thinking in mathematics.

Abstract

This study describes teachers’ perceptions of implementing education transformation after the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The research method uses a mixed-method approach: quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative data collection using questionnaires. Analysis of quantitative data using the Rasch model. Qualitative data analysis through the collection, reduction, and presentation. The respondents of this research are 389 teachers in Indonesia. The questionnaire instrument contains 21 items of statements. Before being sent to teachers via the Google form, the questionnaire had met the readability test by 10 teachers. This research found that the most effortless education transformation is related to the education ecosystem. However, implementations still challenging to implement are related to pedagogy, especially the implementation of differentiated learning. Therefore, this study implies that the educational ecosystem needs to be maintained. Meanwhile, pedagogics, especially those related to differentiated learning, must be improved with various training to recognize student learning styles, multiple intelligences, learning readiness, teacher socio-emotional, and student socio-cultural.

Abstract

Lesson planning is important in an educational setting. This study assessed how Rwandan tutors and teachers prepare lesson plans (LPs) before implementing them in a classroom. We employed a current and standard lesson plan analysis protocol (LPAP) developed by researchers from Rwanda to code data. We collected a representative sample of 119 mathematics and science subject lesson plans from teacher training college tutors and secondary school teachers for analysis to serve its usability. The study results revealed that only 11% of collected LPs were teachable as they were rated in both a good (70-79% scores) and very good (80-89% scores) range of LPAP interpretation. It was also found that the special education needs, lesson approaches, and lesson evaluation components got low mean scores (below 50%). These components were not given appropriate attention in developed LPs. Therefore, this study suggests that tutors and teachers build a quality lesson plan based on the standard LPAP.

Abstract

The advancement of students’ knowledge, skills, and other learning experiences is the goal of student-centered pedagogy and assessment practices, and teachers’ attitudes toward implementing these principles are vital to ensure classroom instruction efficacy. From this standpoint, this study aimed to examine English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers’ attitude toward student-centered pedagogy and assessment practices in the Saudi EFL context concerning classroom instruction efficacy. Also, it correlated the participants’ responses with their gender, experience, degree, and specialization. The descriptive survey design was used to achieve the study objectives. The study tools, a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview were applied to a convenient sample of 73 faculty members. The results showed that the study sample (EFL teachers) had very positive attitudes towards pedagogy and assessment practices focused on students. In addition, the demographic variables of gender, experience, degree, and specialization had no significant role in affecting their responses to pedagogy and assessment practices. Finally, the interviewees expressed that the EFL classroom instruction efficacy can improve the situation in which students are more active, cooperative, responsible, engaged, communicative, and free. In light of the current results, the researchers proposed recommendations and implications.

Abstract

The Isabela State University aims to develop graduates equipped with skills and competence required by the industry. The graduate tracer research helps assess graduates’ employability and establish the elements that serve as a framework for enhancing students’ services and instruction. The snowball sampling was adopted and a modified questionnaire was sent via social media to Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) graduates between 2007 to 2019. There were 111 questionnaires fully accomplished received from the graduates. The results of the study show that the most significant factors contributing to employability were their educational qualifications and professional examinations. All the respondents are employed, but they found the BSA curriculum wanting in providing students with the opportunity to develop accounting skills and better prepare themselves for professional examinations. As such, the graduates recommend extending the BSA curriculum to 5 years; the on-the-job-training (OJT) program with accounting firms, and adding the required course audit. Further, to increase the graduates’ employability, the university shall provide students with the opportunity to experience the use of accounting software in actual business operations.

Abstract

Higher education institution is one of educational institutions that serve as a place of cultural values, and norms expected to become a foundation to foster caring attitudes toward the environment. These attitudes are accordingly meant to develop ecological literacy in order to overcome environmental problems which are likely to be minimized by combining ecological literacy and creative thinking skills. A quantitative descriptive with correlational study was employed in this research. There were 275 college students from three areas in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Sumatera, and Gorontalo involved as respondents of the research. Data was collected by means of Google Forms consisting of tests and opinions. The ecological literacy was analyzed using dimensions of caring, practical competence, and knowledge while the creative thinking skills were analyzed using dimensions of fluency, originality, flexibility, and elaboration. This research is limited to students in the Department of Science and Non-Science. Findings of the research indicates that the ecological literacy level is in the medium category, whereas the creative thinking skills are good. Female students have a higher average score in ecological literacy and creative thinking skills compared to that of male students. Thus, there is a positive relationship between ecological literacy and creative thinking skills.
