Abstract

Background: The implementation of new adaptations during the Covid 19 pandemic has led to an increase in the use of online applications as a means of Communication, Information and Education, one of them is the zoom cloud meeting application, this application is widely used in educational settings but is rarely used in implementing health education in the community, especially in increasing knowledes of the prehypertensive adult group.This  study  aims  to  identify  the  effectiveness  of  online health education  in improving knowledge about how to manage prehypertension. Methods: The method used is a quasi-experimental with a control group of 70 respondents who were selected by purposive sampling. The intervention and control groups each amounted to 35 respondents. Health education online using zoom cloud meeting was given to the intervention group for ± 40 minutes (three times a week). Results: The results of this study indicated that there was an effect of online health education using zoom cloud meeting in improving knowledge about prehypertension management (p- value 0.001). Conclusion: In conclusion, online health education using zoom cloud meeting was effective in improving the knowledge about prehypertension management toward adults with prehypertension. Online health education using zoom cloud meeting can improve knowledge therefore it can be aplicated in community setting to improve knowledge about health management.Keywords: Online Health Education, Knowledge of Prehypertension Manajement, Zoom Cloud Meeting

Abstract

Background: During the Covid 19 pandemic, the need of care and the death rate of patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) increased. So that nurses are required to to integrate the implementation of end of life care (EOLC) in end of life (EOL) patients. However, the implementation of EOLC during the Covid 19 pandemic was vulnerable to obstacles. The implementation of EOLC treatment is influenced by knowledge. The purpose of this study was to see the relationship between knowledge and implementation of EOLC during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Intensive Care Unit room. Methods: This research is a descriptive correlation with a cross sectional approach. The research sample was 91 people, using a convenience sampling technique. This research was conducted in August-October 2022 with research respondents in intensive care nurses at the Hospital in Padang City who worked during the Covid 19 pandemic for at least 1 year. Data collection used Palliative Care Quiz for Nurse Indonesian Version (PCQN-I) and Self Reported Practice Checklist. Data analysis used fisher's exact test. Results: The results showed that nurses' EOLC knowledge was in the moderate category (82.4%) and the implementation of end of life care by nurses during the Covid 19 pandemic was in the high category (85.7%). Conclusion: There was no relationship between EOLC knowledge and EOLC implementation during the Covid 19 pandemic (p = 0.451). Hospital institutions are advised to facilitate the increase of end of life care knowledge in nurses so as to support optimal implementation. Keywords: End of Life Care, Knowledge, Implementation, Nurse, Intensive Care Unit

Abstract

Background: Drug abuse causes physical and psychological problems that cause various changes in the abuser with changes in maladaptive behavior. The National Narcotics Board shows that narcotics abuse in Indonesia is the largest in the Asian level because it uses 65 types of narcotics. In the preliminary study, it was found that there were 55 inpatients at the Batam BNN Rehabilitation Center. This study aims to determine the behavior stages of change before and after the application of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and to analyze its effect on drug rehabilitation clients. Methods: The research method is a quasi-experimental design with a one group pretest - posttest design approach without a control group. The sample consisted of 25 experimental group respondents who underwent inpatient rehabilitation at the Batam Rehabilitation Center of National Narcotics Board in 2022 with a sampling technique that was purposive sampling and the data was processed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: Univariate analysis of the results of the examination after being given MI showed 100% in the action stage. Bivariate results show that there is an effect of MI on the behavior stages of change with the difference in the mean before and after MI is 2.13 and P-Value 0.000 (<0.05).Conclusion:  It was concluded that there was an effect of MI on increasing the behavior stages of change in drug rehabilitation clients. It is recommended for nurses to apply the MI method in carrying out their role as counselors to increase the stage of changing the client's adaptive behaviorKeywords: Motivational Interviewing, Behaviour, Narcotics

Abstract

Background: Elderly people experience physical and psychological changes. Loneliness is one of the psychological disorders experienced by elderly people. Spiritual well-being can overcome loneliness. Since Covid-19, the elderly has become increasing lonely due to limitations in social interaction. This is the aim of the study to determine the correlation between spiritual well-being and loneliness of elderly people in the new normal era at the Public Health Centre Pauh, Padang, Indonesia. Methods: Cross-sectional analytical was used in this study. Participants were elderly in Public Health Centre Pauh (N=94). This study used the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Loneliness Scale and Spiritual Well Being Scale (SWBS) as its instrument. Samples were taken with purposive sampling. Results: The results showed that low spiritual was 22.3% and the spiritual high was 77.7%. Seniors who did not experience loneliness were 26.6%, loneliness was low at 59.6%, loneliness was medium at 11.7% and those who experienced severe loneliness were 2.1%. There is a correlation between spirituality with a level of elderly loneliness (p=0.000; α=0.05). The study of the bivariate analysis showed that low loneliness is based on 3 points in UCLA and high spirituality is based on God’s love and caring, satisfaction, and happiness. Conclusion: Based on the result, doing other research is needed, nurse suggest integrating spiritual care with usual care in Health Public Centre.Keywords: Caring, Elderly, Loneliness, Spiritual

Abstract

Background: During the current COVID-19 pandemic, causing an epidemiological and psychological crisis that creates concerns about the mental health of young people around the world which is a source of stress for students to carry out face-to-face learning directly, coping strategies are one of the efforts that can reduce stressors for students. The purpose of this study was to describe the coping strategies of nursing students who returned to face-to-face lectures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This research is a quantitative research that uses a descriptive design with a sample of 166 respondents, using a total sampling technique. The instrument used in this study is the Brief-Coping Behavior Questionnaire (Brief-COPE) for coping strategies. Results: The results of this study indicate that more students use problem focused coping strategies with an average of 5.77. Conclusion: This study suggests to students to use coping strategies in order to overcome stressors in students when conducting face-to-face learning directly or clinical practice in hospitals so that students can adapt so as not to interfere with student concentration and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Keywords: COVID-19; coping strategies; student

Abstract

Purpose: The study was conducted to examine the trend of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in as seen at Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital (RSTH), Dutse, a state referral centre for CKD cases in Jigawa state over a six-year period from January 2015 to December 2020. Methods: Retrospective research design was used where all the 621 cases seen in the facility over the study period were retrieved and reviewed. Ethical clearance was obtained from the Research and Ethics Committee of RSTH. Data was analysed using frequency tables, charts and multiple regression analysis. Results: The result revealed the mean age of the cases as 39±1 and 62% were males. While the CKD burden between 2016 (51) and 2016 (47) were relatively lower than the later years, a marked increase in the number of CKD cases was witnessed in the facility in 2017 (147) and the curve plateaued at such high prevalence through 2018 (155) and 2019 (151) until 2020 where a drastic drop (70) was witnessed were only 11.2% of the cases were seen. Conclusion: The findings further revealed having chronic glomerulonephritis, comorbidities of hypertension and chronic glomerulonephritis and, hypertension and diabetes, being 60 years & above and being male (p<0.05) as the predictors of having CKD among the patients seen at the facility. It was concluded that, there is a growing trend in the burden of CKD in the state and there is need for further investigations to determine the factors behind it in order to proffer solution to the problem.

Abstract

Background: The most common mental health problem experienced by adolescents is anxiety. Therefore, therapeutic interventions are needed, one of which is mindfulness-based interventions. This study aims to identify the types and describe the implementation of mindfulness-based interventions in overcoming anxiety in adolescents. Methods: A narrative review study design was used. The study selection process used the PRISMA Flow Diagram 2020 guide. The literature search was conducted through PubMed, Sage Journal, and Springer Link databases. Articles published from 2012 to 2021 with Randomized Controlled Trial, Quasi-Experimental, Qualitative Study, and Mixed methods study in English. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, there were ten articles based on the election results. Results: Mindfulness-based interventions to overcome anxiety in adolescents are Learning to BREATHE, Sleep Sense, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction for Teens, Mindfulness-based programs, Mindfulness Martial Arts, and Making Friends with Yourself. Conclusion: Nurses can use mindfulness-based intervention to help adolescents cope with anxiety, including high anxiety levels, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Trait Anxiety.Keywords: adolescents, anxiety, anxiety disorders, mindfulness

Abstract

Background: Treatment of the reproductive organs is important as a solution to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. Every teenager must be equipped with information on how to maintain the health of the reproductive organs so as to avoid diseases that can damage the ability of the reproductive organs. Aims: describe the knowledge of adolescents about the care of the reproductive organs. Methods: This research is a type of quantitative descriptive research with a cross sectional research design. The research subjects were 172 students of SMAN 2 and SMAN 4 Pangkalpinang City. The instrument used was a reproductive health knowledge questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using computerization and univariate analysis. Results: the results showed that as many as (91.3%) of adolescents knew how to clean the genital area after defecating, as many as (65.1%) of adolescents knew how to keep the pubic area moist during activities and as many as (94.2%) of adolescents knew how to maintain cleanliness of the pubic area during menstruation. Conclusion: knowledge about how to clean the genital area after defecation is considered the least information that is known to adolescents. Suggestions that can enrich reproductive health socialization materials for adolescents adapted to current scientific and technological developments.Keywords: adolescent knowledge, reproductive health, care of reproductive organs

Abstract

Background: Cardiac catheterization was a common procedure in the management of patients with coronary heart disease, but this was still unknown among patients. It was impacted on fear, anxiety and high psychological stres when undergoing cardiac catheterization. The aim of this study was to identify the effectiveness of directly pre-catheterization education on increasing the knowledge of inpatients who will undergoing cardiac catheterization. Methods: This was a quasi-experiment with one group pretest-posttest research design. Total 41 patients with coronary heart disease who will undergoing cardiac catheterization participated in this study. Accidental sampling technique was used in this study. The education of pre-catheterization was given for 30 minutes and carried out 1 day before the patients undergoing the procedure. Knowledge of catheterization was measured using a pre-cardiac catheterization knowledge questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired t-test. Results: The results showed that there was an effect of pre-catheterization education on the knowledge of patients who undergoing cardiac catheterization (p<0.001). Conclusion: Education is effective to increasing patients knowledge before undergoing catheterization and it is important for nurses to provide pre-catheterization education before the procedure in decresing fear, anxiety, stres and make the patients more cooperative.Keywords: education, pre-catheterization,  coronary heart disease.

Abstract

Background: The high incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus and its complications, as well as an unhealthy lifestyle, cannot be separated from the problem of low self-management behavior in patients with diabetes mellitus. Chronic disease for a long time tends to affect the perception of disease and duration of suffering in patients with diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between perception of disease and length of suffering with self-management in type 2 diabetes mellitus at Crocodile Health Center Lubuk Padang City. Methods: is a quantitative study with a correlational design and a cross sectional approach. The sample of this research was 70 respondents who were taken using purposive sampling technique. Data collection used the SDSCA-Revised and B-IPQ questionnaires. Data analysis using the Pearson Product test. Results: showed that the average perception of disease was 34.04, the average length of suffering was 6.00 years, the average self-management of diabetes mellitus patients was 41.91.There is a relationship between perception of disease and self-management of diabetes mellitus patients with p value = 0.000. There is a significant relationship between duration of suffering and self-management of diabetes mellitus patients with p value = 0.040. Conclusion: This research gain the increasing of self-management activities on the intensity of PROLANIS activities, especially providing diabetes mellitus exercises from 1x a month to 2-3x a month, conducting regular home visits to help elderly patients check their blood sugar levels, providing comprehensive education, mentoring and monitoring drug consumption.Keywords: type 2 diabetes mellitus, illness perception, illness duration, self-management
