Abstract

The lack of understanding and interest among students in learning science and the scarcity of energy are very interesting topics to study using case-based learning. The novelty lies in the use of Case Based Learning and Artificial Intelligence related to renewable energy. The objectives of the study are (1) to identify the Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) of renewable energy based on learning barriers, and (2) to measure scientific process skills and digital literacy. The sample consisted of 120 high school students in Lubuklinggau. The research design was a Lesson Study approach. Implementation occurred over two cycles in collaboration with teachers to design renewable energy learning materials, including lesson plans (RPP), Student Worksheets (LKPD) 1 and 2. AI tools used included Padlet, Kahoot, and Cap Cut. Data collection involved documentation, observation, and interviews. Data analysis was conducted using quantitative descriptive methods. Learning difficulties were identified in students' inability to conduct investigations, analyze data, and communicate graphs effectively. LKPD 1 and 2 were found to be highly valid with a validity test score of 0.92, making them suitable for use. Additionally, there was an increase in students' average science process skills by 0.87, categorized as high, and digital literacy by 0.88, categorized as highly skilled. Its contribution lies in integrating digital LKPD that is easy to access and engaging due to AI integration. Furthermore, the LKDP developed involves students conducting experiments and field observations to measure the efficiency of biomass stoves fueled by rice husks, wood chips, and LPG stoves. Another interesting finding is that students with low abilities experienced a very high increase in digital literacy. The next step is to develop diagnostic test instruments for science literacy, digital literacy, and learning modalities.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of diagram construction activities, including area proportional and number line representations, in enhancing conceptual understanding and problem-solving performance in fractions among fifth-grade elementary students. Despite the established benefits of visual models, their systematic application in problem-solving contexts remains underexplored. Many elementary students struggle to integrate symbolic and visual representations in fraction problem-solving meaningfully. Using a quasi-experimental design involving 120 students from four public schools in Makassar, the findings reveal that students who participated in diagrammatic reasoning training significantly outperformed those in the control group in both post-test scores and short-term retention. Specifically, the intervention engaged students in constructing area diagrams and number lines to actively visualize fractions. The integration of spatial visualizations through a dual-coding approach proved effective in strengthening symbolic-spatial connections and reducing extraneous cognitive load, with area-proportional strategies emerging as the strongest predictor of accuracy. These results underscore the importance of routinely integrating diagrammatic activities into elementary mathematics curricula and open new avenues for future research using technologies such as eye-tracking and artificial intelligence to support personalized visual learning.
The Impact of Traditional Game Belempongan on Elementary Students’ Physical Fitness: A Quasi-Experimental Study

Abstract

The decline in physical activity among children, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, necessitates innovative and engaging interventions in school settings. Culturally relevant physical education methods, particularly those grounded in local traditions, may offer viable solutions to improve children’s physical health, motivation, and sense of belonging. This study aimed to examine the impact of the traditional game Belempongan on elementary students' physical fitness, measured using the Indonesian Physical Fitness Test (TKJI). A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was employed involving 30 students. Participants engaged in Belempongan sessions integrated into physical education over several weeks. Physical fitness components: 30-meter sprint, bent-arm hang, sit-ups, vertical jump, and 600-meter run, were measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests with JASP 0.19.3, assuming normal distribution. All physical fitness indicators showed statistically significant improvements (p < .001), with very large effect sizes across components: sprint speed (d = 2.180), bent-arm hang (d = 8.050), sit-ups (d = 5.623), vertical jump (d = 3.161), and 600-meter run (d = 1.985). The overall TKJI score also improved significantly (d = 7.938). These results affirm that Belempongan not only improves measurable physical health indicators but also offers a sustainable, low-cost, and contextually meaningful alternative to conventional physical education. Traditional game-based physical education offers a culturally resonant, enjoyable, and effective method for improving children's fitness and should be considered for wider implementation within school curricula. Future studies should explore longitudinal outcomes, cross-regional comparisons, and additional psychosocial indicators to broaden the empirical foundation for culturally integrated PE programs.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of outdoor activity-based learning on student motivation, responsibility, and cooperation in physical education, focusing on two specific activities: Pirates’ Treasure and Team Tail Tag. The increasing recognition of outdoor learning as a tool to enhance both cognitive and social development in elementary education provides the backdrop for this research. The purpose of the study was to investigate how different outdoor activities affect students' learning motivation, particularly in relation to their levels of responsibility and cooperation. A total of 48 students from an elementary school in Ampenan participated, categorized into four treatment groups based on pre-assessed responsibility and cooperation levels. The study employed a 2x2 factorial experimental design, with pretest and posttest assessments to measure changes in motivation. The findings revealed that students with high responsibility and cooperation (A1B1) showed the greatest improvement in motivation when engaging in Pirates’ Treasure, while those with higher cooperation, particularly in Team Tail Tag (A2B2), exhibited the most significant gains. The study also identified a significant interaction between activity type and students’ social traits, suggesting that outdoor activities that promote collaboration are more effective in increasing motivation, particularly for students with initially lower levels of cooperation. However, the research also highlighted several challenges, including limited resources, inadequate teacher training, and resistance to integrating outdoor learning in the curriculum. The study recommends further exploration of the long-term effects of outdoor activities, the effectiveness of various outdoor learning methods, and strategies to overcome implementation barriers, particularly through teacher training and resource allocation.
Analysis of the Role of Psychological Factors in Learning Outcomes in Physical Education

Abstract

This study examined the impact of four psychological factors—motivation, self-confidence, autonomy, and personal and social responsibility—on learning outcomes in physical education among grade X students in Narmada District, Lombok Barat. While prior studies have explored these factors individually, limited research addresses their combined influence. This ex-post facto study employed questionnaires to measure psychological traits and academic records to assess student outcomes. Regression analysis revealed significant positive correlations between each psychological factor and physical education performance. Motivation and autonomy had the strongest effects, accounting for 52% and 55% of the variance, respectively. Self-confidence explained 46% and personal and social responsibility 50%. Notably, self-confidence and responsibility also demonstrated moderate correlations with academic performance (r = 0.68 and r = 0.71, respectively). These findings highlight the integral role of psychological development in shaping physical education outcomes. Motivation boosts engagement, while autonomy—enabled through choice and self-direction—enhances both participation and performance. Though self-confidence and responsibility had slightly lesser effects, they remain vital contributors to success. The study underscores the importance of creating a learning environment that fosters psychological strengths alongside physical skills. Integrating these factors into physical education programs can enhance student engagement, accountability, and academic achievement. Educators are encouraged to adopt autonomy-supportive and responsibility-building strategies to support holistic development. The study concludes by advocating for continued research into the long-term effects of these psychological traits and their interactions. Emphasizing both mental and physical growth is essential for promoting sustainable student success in physical education contexts.
Development of the Riverkeeper Game Using Canva Application to Teach Ecosystem Topic to High School Students

Abstract

Ecosystem learning in secondary education often relies on theoretical instruction with minimal contextual engagement, leading to persistent misconceptions and low student understanding. This study aims to address this pedagogical gap by developing the Riverkeeper game, an innovative hybrid learning media that combines digital platforms (Canva, Wordwall, and Google Docs) with field exploration activities to support ecosystem instruction. Using a modified 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) but only Define, Design and Develop stages were conducted in this paper. Data were collected from five biology teachers and twenty Grade 11 students to identify instructional challenges and needs. The Riverkeeper game was designed based on constructivist and experiential learning principles, integrating digital problem-solving tasks with real-world observation of river ecosystems. The media prototype underwent expert validation involving three evaluators (a biology education lecturer, a media expert, and a senior high school biology teacher) using a structured instrument covering three aspects: game guidance, visual communication and design, and functionality. Validation results showed an overall score of 88% (very valid), with strengths in instructional clarity and visual design, though minor revisions were suggested for navigation and technical integration. A practicality test involving twenty students reported high satisfaction and relevance to learning objectives. As this study focused solely on the development and validation stages, further research is recommended to evaluate the game’s effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes. The Riverkeeper game presents a novel approach to ecosystem education by integrating digital game-based learning with direct environmental exploration.

Abstract

The development of science and technology requires students to have Habits of Mind (HoM) to be able to think critically, creatively, and reflectively in dealing with complex problems. This study aims to determine the effect of the Socio-Scientific Issues-based Project-Based Learning (PJBL-SSI) model on changes in students' HoM on biotechnology material. Socio-Scientific Issues context, such as gluten-free diet trend, was chosen to encourage real problem-based learning and project-based decision making. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a Non-equivalent Control Group Design, involving 62 ninth-grade students from Bandung City Public Junior High School. The experimental group received PJBL-SSI learning, while the control group used conventional PJBL. Data were collected through validated HoM pretest and posttest questionnaires. The results showed an increase in the mean score of HoM in the experimental group from 38.23 to 44.97, while the control group decreased from 41.62 to 40.90. The Mann-Whitney U test showed a significant difference between groups (p = 0.006). These findings support previous studies that the integration of PPA and SSI is effective in shaping students' reflective and critical thinking dispositions through contextual projects and meaningful ethical discussions.
Improvement of Water Quality by Hematite Based on River Sand Magnetic Minerals of Lombok Island

Abstract

Hematite synthesis has been carried out using magnetic mineral river sand from several areas on the island of Lombok, namely Tanak Beak, Sesao, and Lokoq Rangan. Hematite was then used for metal absorbance in polluted water from the river around the Kebon Kongok landfill. The synthesis method used is coprecipitation. The acid used is HCl with a concentration of 7 M and NH4OH base with a concentration of 25%. Mineral content analysis was carried out using AAS and EDX. Morphological analysis was made using SEM, crystal structure using XRD, and functional group analysis using FTIR, while TDS and water conductivity were measured using a TDS meter. Based on the results of AAS analysis, it appears that the iron content of hematite synthesized from magnetic minerals of tanak beak, sesaot, and lokoq rangan river sand is 8.79%, 10.84% and 9.01% respectively, while based on EDX analysis, it was found to be 70.42%, 77.99% and 72.55%. The particle size of Sesaot iron sand also has the smallest size, at (0.88 ± 0.17) micrometers, while the largest grain size is obtained in the Tanak Beak area, at (1,288 ± 0.23) micrometers. Based on the results of XRD and FTIR analysis, it can be concluded that hematite nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using iron sand based on the Lombok Island River sand. Mn ions absorbed by hematite-based mineralized magnetic river sand from several areas on the island of Lombok, namely Tanak Beak, Sesaot, and Lokoq Rangan, are 9.39%, 27.07% and 13.82% respectively, which is followed by a decrease in TDS and conductivity of the absorbed water. Hematite derived from river sand magnetic minerals can adsorb Mn metal and improve water quality better when compared to hematite based on Tanak Beak and Lokoq Rangan river sand.

Abstract

Mangosteen peel is a rich source of xanthones and polyphenols with high antioxidant potential, but their efficient recovery requires extraction systems that are both effective and environmentally sustainable. In this study, ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) was combined with a hybrid green solvent consisting of natural deep eutectic solvents (NaDES), virgin coconut oil, and ethanol (VCO:EtOH = 1:1). A full 3 × 3 × 3 factorial design (27 runs) was used to evaluate the effects of NaDES concentration (30–50%), temperature (30–50 °C), and ultrasound amplitude (60–100%) on extraction yield and antioxidant activity measured by DPPH inhibition. Extraction kinetics were fitted using a nonlinear pseudo-second-order (PSO) model. The highest 60-min extraction yield was obtained at 50% NaDES, 50 °C, and 100% amplitude, reaching 26.2 ± 0.4% (n = 3), with DPPH inhibition of 94.4 ± 0.8% (n = 3). Under the same condition, the PSO model estimated an equilibrium yield (qₑ) of 26.78%, with an RMSE of 0.067. Across all treatments, RMSE values ranged from 0.011 to 0.688, and extraction yield generally approached a plateau within 45–60 min. Yield was strongly and positively correlated with antioxidant activity (r = 0.876; 95% CI: 0.79–0.93; p < 0.01). These findings show that integrating UAE, a NaDES-based hybrid solvent, and PSO kinetic modeling can improve extraction efficiency and antioxidant performance while providing a reproducible framework for mangosteen peel valorization in nutraceutical and functional-food applications.

Abstract

This study examined the influence of principals' entrepreneurial competencies on teachers' motivation and performance in vocational high schools (SMKs) in Bulukumba Regency, using Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM; AMOS v24). The structural model incorporated five dimensions of entrepreneurial competency (innovation, creativity, commitment, risk-taking, and team building), with teacher motivation as the mediating variable and teacher performance as the outcome. A sample of 200 teachers was drawn proportionally from 10 schools. Instrument validation confirmed high convergent validity and internal consistency (CRs 0.779–0.884; AVEs≥ 0.70). Model fit was evaluated using a contextual cross-index calibration approach, resulting in good fit indices (CFI = 0.989; RMSEA = 0.027; χ²(206) = 236.373, p = 0.072). Structurally, team-building (β = 0.404, p < 0.001), creativity (β = 0.165, p = 0.009), and commitment (β = 0.106, p = 0.042) showed significant direct effects on teacher performance, alongside teacher motivation (β = 0.291, p = 0.003). Motivation significantly mediated the impact of creativity on performance (t = 2.164). Collectively, this model explained 70.6% of the variance in motivation and 90.2% of the variance in performance. The novelty of this study lies in modeling the five dimensions of entrepreneurial leadership simultaneously, unlike previous research, which treated entrepreneurship as a unidimensional construct within a district-wide mediation framework. In practice, these findings suggest that leadership development programs should prioritize creativity, commitment, and team-building to enhance teacher motivation and performance in vocational education settings.
