Abstract

Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) requires feed management and health to support growth and survival. One of the widely used approaches is the addition of probiotics in feed. This study aims to evaluate the effect of probiotic supplementation at different doses through feed on the survival and growth of vannamei shrimp during the nursery stage. The study was conducted experimentally using four treatments: A (no probiotic/control), B (2 ml/kg feed), C (3 ml/kg feed), and D (4 ml/kg feed), each with three replications. Shrimp were stocked at a density of 100 individuals per liter and reared in a controlled system. Observed parameters included survival rate (%), absolute weight gain (g), specific growth rate (SGR, %/day), and water quality. The results showed that probiotic supplementation influenced the survival and growth performance of vannamei shrimp, although the differences were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Treatment B (2 ml/kg feed) yielded the highest results, with a survival rate of 61.3%, an average absolute weight gain of 8.8 g, and the highest specific growth rate compared to other treatments. Treatment A (without probiotics) showed the lowest performance in both survival and growth. Water quality parameters (temperature, pH, DO, and ammonia) were within the optimal range for vannamei shrimp growth.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify and determine the prevalence, intensity, and dominance of ectoparasites in mud grouper (Epinephelus coioides). This study was conducted in August - November 2023. Sampling was carried out in Tapian Nauli Floating Net Cages, Central Tapanuli Regency, while ectoparasite identification was carried out at the Fish Health Laboratory, Matauli Fisheries and Marine College. Sampling was conducted using purposive sampling of fish showing clinical signs of illness. Data obtained from the results of parasite identification and analyzed descriptively and presented in the form of figures and tables. The results showed that 2 types of ectoparasites were found in mud grouper fish kept in floating net cages, Tapian Nauli, Central Tapanuli, namely Dactylogyrus sp. and Trichodina sp. The prevalence of Dactylogyrus sp. in all cages was 14.4% and Trichodina sp. 1.11% while the intensity and dominance of each ectoparasite are; 26 individuals/each (90.72%) and 5 individuals/each (1.33%). The water quality values during sampling were temperature of 27.1 oC - 29.8 oC, pH of 6.7 - 7.1, DO of 5.2 ppm - 6.6 ppm, salinity of 20 ppt - 28 ppt, and the weather was cloudy, drizzle, and light rain.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems are an important component of coastal areas that have strategic ecological functions, including acting as natural coastal protection from abrasion, providing habitat and seeds for fisheries, and absorbing carbon that plays a role in mitigating climate change. However, the existence of mangrove ecosystems in various coastal areas of Indonesia, including Pariaman City, faces serious pressure due to human activities and weak coastal area governance. The problem formulation in this study includes the factors causing problems in the mangrove ecosystem in Pariaman City and how the central role of coastal area governance can strengthen the ecological function of mangroves as coastal protection, providing seeds for fisheries, and absorbing carbon. This study aims to analyze the role of management and protection of coastal ecosystems, especially mangrove forests, in the governance of the coastal area of Pariaman City. The research methodology uses a literature review method with a descriptive analysis approach, which examines 15 selected articles. The results of the study indicate partial to significant degradation of mangrove areas due to land conversion, reclamation, logging, and industrial and household pollution. Human pressures such as shrimp pond expansion, coastal infrastructure development, and land reclamation also exacerbate abrasion and reduce the productivity of the mangrove ecosystem. On the other hand, mangroves have significant potential as an instrument for climate change adaptation and mitigation through increasing blue carbon and coastal rehabilitation. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of community-based governance policies, mangrove restoration programs, and cross-sector partnerships to maintain the sustainability of Pariaman City's coastal ecosystem.

Abstract

Samalona Island, located in Makassar City, is a marine tourism destination with a high diversity of coral reefs. However, human activities and environmental degradation have caused damage to much of the reef ecosystem. This study aims to: (1) analyze the growth rate and survival of corals in rehabilitated areas, (2) identify the inhibiting factors for coral growth, and (3) formulate a management strategy based on rehabilitation. The method used is the Underwater Visual Census (UVC) with spider web-shaped transplant media. Primary data were collected through direct observation, while secondary data were obtained from related agencies. The findings indicate that coral transplantation can support ecosystem recovery when proper methods, location selection, and regular monitoring are implemented. This study provides strategic recommendations for sustainable coral reef management involving local community participation and integrated marine conservation.

Abstract

Freshwater lobster (Cherax quadricarinatus) is a high-value aquaculture commodity with rapid growth and strong adaptability. However, the high cost of feed—accounting for 60–70% of total production expenses—remains a major constraint for farmers. The use of alternative plant–animal feed combinations offers a potential solution to reduce production costs without compromising nutritional quality. This study aims to analyze the effect of different proportions of alternative feed combinations on the absolute weight gain of freshwater lobster juveniles, determine the most optimal feed composition, describe growth patterns, and evaluate water quality as a supporting factor. The research was conducted for four weeks using an experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of five treatments and five replications. The results showed that feed combinations had a highly significant effect on growth. Treatment D (25% plant-based + 75% animal-based feed) produced the highest absolute weight gain of 10 g, indicating that animal protein plays a dominant role, while plant-based nutrients remain essential for balanced nutrition. Overall, plant–animal alternative feed combinations effectively enhanced the growth of freshwater lobster juveniles and present a cost-efficient alternative to commercial feed for farmers.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are: 1) Analyzing the composition of the types of suloere catches on hand line fishing in the waters of Tanah Beru, Bulukumba Regency. 2) Analyze the distribution of the dominant fish size caught by suloere on hand lines in the waters of Tanah Beru, Bulukumba Regency. 3) Analyzing the effectiveness of red, yellow and blue LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights on hand lines made from bottle waste in the waters of Tanah Beru, Bulukumba Regency. This research was carried out from May to June 2023 in the waters of Tanah Beru, Bontobahari District, Bulukumba Regency. In this study, the experiment to be carried out is the use of LED suloere lights as a catching aid. 1) The suloere catch in long fishing rods is yellow scallops (Selaroides leptolepis), kite (Decapterus sp.), red snapper (Lutjanus malabaricus), kurisi (Nemipterus bathybius.), sea eel (Gymnothorax sp.) and cockatoos (Scarus guacamaia). 2) The highest distribution of size and weight of catch was obtained by flying fish with a length distribution of 121-154 mm with a weight of 19-68 grams caught on a blue LED suloere. 3) Comparison of the capture results using red, yellow, and blue LED suloere capture aids showed real different results
