Abstract

The primary goal of this study is to analyze the elicitation and reformulation used by male and female teachers in English classes. In this descriptive qualitative study, the researcher collected data from observation and in-depth interviews in three class meetings for 135 minutes (45 minutes/meeting). Ten teachers, five male, and five female, from one Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri in Medan City, North Sumatra. The data were analyzed using Tsui's Elicitation and Martinot's Reformulation categorization. The findings reveal that male and female teachers similarly use five elicitation types: inform, confirm, agree, repeat, and clarify, where the most dominant type of elicitation is confirmed. In addition, three different types of reformulation were found in the reformulation feedback: the same construction, transformation, and restructured statements. In contrast, transformation was the dominant type used by the teachers. In practicing oral feedback, especially elicitation, male teachers use standard language to elicit the students' utterances, while female teachers ask students to make the teaching and learning process interactive. In reformulation, the study results show that male teachers only provide oral feedback by giving instructions, while female teachers provide oral feedback by giving instructions and reformulating utterances. Furthermore, three main reasons were found for teachers to provide oral feedback, namely: to detect mistakes made by students, to stimulate students to interact with the teacher, and to create reflective and effective feedback practices.

This research is qualitative research with descriptive methods. There were four biology textbooks sampled in this study. The data used in this study used primary data. Primary data sources were obtained through direct surveys of the four schools. Secondary data was obtained through the internet on the school data page. The data collection method in this study uses the documentation method. The data analysis used uses content analysis, which is a technique for collecting and analyzing the content of a text. The results of data analysis showed that the category of science as a body of knowledge amounted to 55.3%, science as the nature of inquiry amounted to 10%, science as a way of thinking amounted to 34%, and the interaction of science, technology, and society amounted to 0%. The data illustrates that the class XII biology textbooks used by some schools have described science literacy with a good category. It's just that the books generally emphasize more on the aspects of science as a body of knowledge and less on present science and technology.

Abstract

This development aims to create learning media using the CapCut application for Natural and Social Sciences subjects. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D), which refers to the 4D development model. There are four stages of development: define, design, develop, and disseminate. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire and a test. Questionnaires were given to the subject and media experts to test the feasibility of learning media products based on the CapCut application. While the primary data source comes from class IV Science textbooks at SDN Kedaleman III and secondary data sources come from class IV students at SDN Kedaleman III. The population in this study were all fourth-grade students at SDN Kedaleman III, totaling 32 students. The sampling technique used a saturated sample; the entire population became the research sample because of the small population. Hence, the sample in this study was students of class IV at SDN Kedaleman III, totaling 32 students. This study used data analysis techniques t-test, namely paired sample t-test. The study results show that the CapCut application-based learning media is very suitable for science learning because it gets high marks from subject and media experts. The material expert's assessment was 89%, and the media expert's assessment was 93% which was classified as very feasible. And the t-test shows that there is a significant difference between the student's pre-test and post-test. Therefore it can be concluded that the CapCut application-based learning media is effectively used in science learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the strategies teachers use in carrying out independent learning curriculum learning in frontier, remote, and disadvantaged schools and to explain the limitations in frontier, remote, and disadvantaged areas. The method used in this research is qualitative with a case study approach. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Amandraya in South Nias district, North Sumatra province. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. Informants in this study consisted of 10 teachers, principals, and 20 students. Data analysis was done using data reduction, presentation, and conclusion. The results of the study show that the teacher's strategy in implementing the independent learning curriculum in frontier, remote, and disadvantaged areas is that the teacher optimizes the use of available learning facilities, the teacher utilizes learning tools and materials that are made naturally, and the teacher uses internal creativity in supporting learning by independent learning curriculum. Teacher competence in implementing the independent learning curriculum has limitations, namely the need for teacher training and professionalism. In addition, the results of implementing the independent learning curriculum have yet to experience changes in student learning outcomes fully. Therefore, the researchers suggest that local governments focus on developing human resources and learning facilities in frontier, remote, and underdeveloped regional schools to create young people who can compete nationally and internationally.
