Abstract

This study aims to develop a valid, practical, and effective instrument for assessing social tolerance attitudes in Arabic language learning at Islamic senior high schools. The research is motivated by the persistent subjectivity, intuitiveness, and lack of measurability in existing social attitude assessments, which limits the potential of Arabic language learning as a medium for character education. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model comprising analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation the study was conducted at MAS Babul Magfirah, Aceh Besar. The research procedures included curriculum and needs analysis, the design of indicator-based social tolerance assessment instruments, the development of observation sheet prototypes, and limited pilot testing. The findings indicate that the developed instrument, in the form of a social attitude observation sheet grounded in the Affective Taxonomy and implemented through a role-playing activity entitled “Buying and Selling at the Arabic School Cafeteria,” meets the criteria of content validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The pilot test involving six tenth-grade students produced an average achievement percentage of 84.02%, categorized as “Good,” demonstrating the instrument’s capacity to distinguish variations in students’ social tolerance attitudes. In conclusion, the instrument is proven to be effective for objectively and systematically assessing social tolerance attitudes within the context of Arabic language learning. The study recommends integrating the instrument into social attitude assessment systems at Islamic schools and providing teacher training to support the implementation of measurable character education in Islamic education settings.

Abstract

This study investigates the discourse of hisab and rukyat within masāʾil fiqhiyyah education by comparatively examining the perspectives of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah figures in East Java regarding the determination of the beginning of the Qamariyah month, particularly Shawwal. The research aims to analyze the ontological foundations, interpretative paradigms, and practical implications of both approaches in responding to contemporary developments in astronomy. This study employs a descriptive-comparative method with an astronomical-fiqh–fiqh approach. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with NU and Muhammadiyah scholars in East Java. In contrast, secondary data were collected from organizational decrees, classical and contemporary fiqh texts, astronomical calculations, and relevant literature. The research was conducted in several regions of East Java. Data were collected through interviews, documentation, and literature review, and analyzed using qualitative comparative analysis supported by astronomical interpretation. The findings reveal that NU scholars predominantly prioritize ru’yah al-hilal supported by hisab. In contrast, Muhammadiyah scholars determine the Qamariyah month based on hisab with the wujud al-hilal criterion. The differences arise mainly from divergent interpretations of syar’i texts and outdated visibility criteria that are no longer consistent with modern astronomical science. Despite these differences, the study identifies the potential for reconciliation through the harmonization of criteria rather than the dichotomy of methods. The study concludes that integrating astronomical accuracy with fiqh interpretation is essential to resolving recurring polemics and strengthening rational Islamic legal discourse.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of incentives and health insurance on teacher performance at Annurilah Islamic Elementary School located in Pantai Labu District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. The research was motivated by teacher dissatisfaction with the current profit-sharing incentive system and unequal health insurance coverage. The study's purpose is to analyze how these factors influence teacher motivation and performance, identify the problems with the school's current systems, and provide recommendations for improvement. Using a quantitative approach with an associative-causal research design, the study collected primary data from all 33 teachers at the school via questionnaires. A simple linear regression analysis was used to test the hypothesis. The findings indicate that both incentives and health insurance have a significant and positive influence on teacher performance. However, the study also found that the school's ineffective and unfair system, which includes a non-transparent profit-sharing model for incentives and unequal health insurance coverage, can lead to dissatisfaction and negatively affect performance. The research suggests that while these factors can improve performance, their current implementation at the school hinders their effectiveness.

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) describe the principles of Islamic educational communication in Surah Luqman verses 12–19; (2) reveal the form of its implementation in the learning process at MAN Bontang; (3) analyze the challenges faced by teachers and schools in integrating Qur'anic communication principles; and (4) assess the impact of the application of these principles on the formation of students' religious character. The research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Primary data sources include madrasah heads, teachers, and students, while secondary data comes from school documents and archives. The research instrument is the researcher, supported by interview guides, observations, and documentation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation studies, then analyzed using the Miles & Huberman model (data reduction, data presentation, conclusions/verification) and validated through triangulation. The results of the study show that the principle of communication of Islamic education in Surah Luqman verses 12–19 forms the religious character of students through the strengthening of monotheism, gratitude, respect for parents, amar ma'ruf nahi munkar, patience, and social ethics. Its application is carried out integratively through the communication pattern of qaulan (sadidan, balighan, layyinan, ma'rufan, kariman) by teachers as a moral example. The main challenges stem from internal factors of students and the influence of popular culture. As a result, students show spiritual awareness, moral discipline, social politeness, and responsible communication skills. This research confirms that Qur'anic education is able to form kamil people holistically in the modern era.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of integrating the 5E learning model with the Mentimeter application in enhancing students’ critical and creative thinking skills in Islamic Religious Education courses at three universities in Semarang. Using a quantitative pre-experimental design with a multi-group pretest–posttest structure, the study involved 133 first-semester students from three universities selected through purposive sampling with a minimum attendance criterion of 80%. The data were drawn from pretest and posttest scores obtained through essay-type test instruments, with data collection carried out at the beginning and the end of the semester. Data were analyzed using paired statistical tests (Paired Sample t-Test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test), N-Gain calculations, and the Kruskal–Wallis test to examine the consistency of improvement across institutions. The findings indicate significant increases in critical thinking skills (N-Gain = 0.48) and creative thinking skills (N-Gain = 0.40) with a high level of significance (p < 0.01). These improvements were consistent across universities with different institutional characteristics (p > 0.05), indicating that the 5E syntax based on Mentimeter is robust and adaptive to various learning contexts. The results suggest that technology-based contextual learning can bridge the gap between traditional religious instruction and the cognitive demands of the Society 5.0 era. This study offers a new pedagogical framework for religious education by combining structured inquiry stages with interactive digital technology, and recommends further research employing longitudinal or experimental designs that consider variables such as digital literacy, learning styles, and socio-economic background.

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) identify the financing and governance policies of Islamic Higher Education, 2) identify key factors that influence the harmonization of financing and governance policies, and 3) formulate a comprehensive harmonization model for Islamic higher education. This study was conducted at the Islamic University of Bandung (UNISBA) using a qualitative approach with a grounded theory method through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies. Primary data were obtained from Foundation managers, university leaders, and related units, while secondary data came from institutional documents, financial reports, internal policies, statistical data, and academic literature. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman technique and assisted by Atlas. ti. The results of the study indicate that: 1) UNISBA's financing governance is built through the division of autonomy between the Foundation as an asset manager and the university as an academic manager, with a centralized budgeting mechanism that ensures accountability. 2) There are six key factors that shape harmonization, namely diversification of funding sources, Islamic governance values, government support, a culture of philanthropy through BMU, entrepreneurial innovation and industrial partnerships, and institutional leadership and coordination. 3) A financing harmonization model that integrates institutional autonomy, proportion of fund allocation, optimization of various funding sources, and the principles of Good University Governance as a basis for sustainable and adaptive financing management.

Abstract

This study investigates the collaborative synergy models between Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers and School Counselors (BK), designed to strengthen religious character and responsibility among students in Magelang City, Indonesia. Addressing the critical limitations of siloed character education amidst rising urban moral challenges, such as juvenile delinquency, this research argues that isolated interventions fail to address the holistic needs of students. Employing a Qualitative Case Study design, the research was conducted across five public junior high schools (SMP Negeri 1, 2, 3, 5, and 13) in Magelang City. Data were rigorously gathered using three fundamental techniques: (1) in-depth semi-structured interviews with 15 key informants to explore collaborative experiences and role divisions; (2) participant observation of daily religious habituations and counseling sessions; and (3) documentation analysis of guidance programs and student records to triangulate the findings. The findings reveal a comprehensive collaborative framework categorized into five operational models: (1) Preventive, utilizing habituation routines like GLISUCI (Scripture Literacy) and 5S; (2) Curative, applying psycho-theological counseling for behavioral restoration; (3) Thematic-Integrative, involving curriculum infusion; (4) Extracurricular, fostering experiential learning in Scouts and ROHIS (Islamic Spirituality); and (5) Consultative-Collaborative, focusing on parental engagement. The study demonstrates that this synergy effectively integrates theological norms (Aqidah) with psychological guidance, transforming student behavior from mere compliance into intrinsic responsibility. Despite identifying structural rigidities and epistemological gaps between the professions as persistent barriers, the study concludes that formalizing this collaboration through explicit institutional policy is critical. Such institutionalization is necessary to establish a unified, holistic character-building ecosystem capable of navigating the complexities of modern urban educational environments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of these three variables, both partially and simultaneously, on the performance of teachers at State Islamic Elementary Schools (MIN) in Metro City. The research employed a quantitative approach using multiple regression analysis through SPSS 22.0. The study population consisted of 106 MIN teachers in Metro City, and based on the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error, 51 samples were selected using the Proportional Random Sampling technique. The instrument used was a Likert-scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability using the Product-Moment correlation and Cronbach's Alpha, and all variables were found to be valid and reliable. The research sample involved all MIN teachers in Metro City as respondents. The results showed that the principal's leadership has a positive but not dominant influence, organizational culture significantly affects teachers' motivation and work ethic, while pedagogical competence is the strongest factor determining teacher performance, with the highest regression coefficient (0.609). Simultaneously, the three variables contribute significantly to teacher performance (sig. 0.000; F-value 348.204). The findings emphasize that teacher performance improves optimally when leadership is effective, the organizational culture is religious and collaborative, and teachers' pedagogical competence is professionally developed.
