Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve reading comprehension skills with the Connecting Organizing Reflecting Extending (CORE) learning model. This type of research was classroom action research. This research carried out for two-cycle with each cycle consisting of four activities that are planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The techniques used to collect data in this study include observation, interviews, tests, and documentation. The data validity techniques used were instrument content validity, source triangulation, and technique triangulation. Data analysis in this study uses comparative descriptive analysis techniques and interactive data analysis. The results of research that have been carried out at the pre-action stage, the class average is 45.69 with classical completeness is 14.29%. The class average increased in the cycle I with an average grade is 68.25 and classical completeness 57.14%, then increased again in cycle II with an average class 79.30 and classical completeness 85.71%. Based on the research results, it can be seen that the application of the Connecting Organizing Reflecting Extending (CORE) learning model can improve reading comprehension skills on the fourth-grade students of the elementary school of Banyurip academic year 2018/2019.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is knowing the differences between (1) Mind Mapping learning model and Think Pair Share learning model toward student creative thinking skill, (2) reading interest effect of high and low groups towards students creative thinking skills, and (3) interaction effect of learning models and reading interest towards student creative thinking skill. The population was fourth grade’s students at elementary school in Puncu Region. The samples had chosen through Cluster Random Sampling and there are two schools that researcher had chosen, they are SD N Gadungan 2 and SD N Gadungan 5. This research used experimental method and the data were analyzed with Two Way Anova Test using SPSS 16.0 programme. The data were taken from the result of creative thinking skill esay tests and student’s reading interest questionnaire. The result showed that, first there was differences between Mind Mapping and Think Pair Share learning model towards students creative thinking skill (Sig. = 0,00 < α = 0,05). Second, there was differences between high reading interest and low reading interest towards students creative thinking skill (Sig. = 0,00 < α = 0,05). Third, there was no interaction between learning model and reading interest towards students creative thinking skill (Sig. = 0,935 > α = 0,05).

Abstract

This study aims to determine (1) whether there is a relationship between vocabulary mastery and narrative writing skills; 2) the relationship of learning motivation with the ability to write narration; (3) the relationship between vocabulary and learning motivational with the ability to write narration. The method used is the correlational method. The sample is 3 elementary schools, totaling 79 students. Data collection using tests and questionnaires. The ability to write variable narratives is used in the form of a composing test instrument, an instrument of learning motivation variable used in the form of a questionnaire, mastering the vocabulary of data variables obtained with choice test. Data were analyzed using inferential analysis of the F test and t test. The results showed that (1) there was a significant relationship between vocabulary mastery with the ability to write narrative tcount (317.66)> rtable (3.97), the correlation coefficient tested by t test, the results of tcount (17.33)> ttable (1.66); (2) there is significant the relationship between learning motivation and narrative writing ability price r count (37.43)> r table (3.97), the correlation coefficient is tested by t test, the tcount (7.40)> Table (1.66); (3) there is a significant correlation between vocabulary words and motivation to learn together with the ability to write narration. ry (1,2) equal to 0.94, the coefficient of significance with the F test obtained F count = 302.01, the real level á = 0, 05, with df 76 obtained Ftable = 3.12 then Fcount> Ftable. Thus, it can be concluded that mastery of vocabulary and learning motivation has significant relationship with students' ability to write narration.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is improving the skills to use practical tools in science learning by using the PBL model. This research is Classroom Action Research with three cycles. The subjects of the study were 34 students and grade 5 students at SD Negeri Pajang 4 in the 2019/2020 academic year. The technique in collecting data is observation and interviewand documentation with data analysis of content validity. The analysis of the data used is the interactive analysis. The initial conditions prior to action are the percentage of students on skills using tools according to the procedure of 3.03% and there are no students who are very skilled at the skills of arranging tools according to the series drawings. The first cycle resulting in a percentage of very skilled students using tools according to procedures 9.09% and arranging tools according to series drawings 24.24%. The second cycle resulting in a percentage of very skilled students using tools according to procedures 38.71% and arranging tools according to series drawings of 51.61%. The third cycle resulting in a percentage of very skilled students using the tools according to the procedure is the same as assembling the tools according to the series drawings that is 87.10%. Based on the result of the research, it can be conclude that the PBL learning model can improve the practice of using practical tools in natural science learning in grade V students of SD Negeri Pajang 4 in the 2019/2020 school year. Teachers can use the PBL model to improve their skills in using practical tools.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the skills of High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) which is the goal of the 2013 curriculum. But, 102 Totosari State Elementary School students still have a low critical thinking level. This research aimed to improve student’s critical thinking by implementing RME (Realistic Mathematics Education) learning model for 5th Grade 102 Totosari Elementary School Students Surakarta Academic Year 2019/2020. This research used Classroom Action Research as the method and it formed of two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four steps: planning, implementing, observing, and conducting reflection. The participant of the research is 24 students of 5th-grade 102 Totosari State Elementary School Surakarta Academic Year 2019/2020. The teacher, critical thinking data score, and other documents became the data source. Source and technique triangulation used to check data validity. Data analysis used the interactive analysis model consisted of three components including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. This result showed that the critical thinking level of 5th-grade students increased through the implementation of the RME learning model. The improvement evidenced from the students’ actions until the second meeting of second cycles. The result showed an 83% improvement of 8% pre-action. This research can be used as a source in other studies in improving critical thinking skill.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the skills of writing descriptive text using the Example Nonexample model. The subjects of this study were 21 fifth grade students of Bumi I Elementary School in 2019/2020. This study uses data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, documentation and writing skills tests that are tested with content validity, triangulation of data sources and triangulation techniques. The results obtained will be processed by data analysis techniques from Miles and Huberman. From the results before applying the Example Nonexample model, classical completeness was only 5 students (23.8%), then after applying the Example Nonexample model the results of writing description text skills increased by 12 students (57.2%) in the first cycle and 18 students (85.7%) in the second cycle. So, the Example Nonexample model can improve description writing skills in fifth grade students of Bumi I Elementary School in 2019/2020 school year. The teacher can use the Example Nonexample model in learning to write description texts especially in the fifth grade of Bumi I Elementary School.

Abstract

The aim of this research is improving reading comprehension skill through PQ4R method. The type of this research is Classroom Action Research which held in 3 cycles. The first and second cycles held in two meetings while the third cycle only one meeting. This study takes research subjects from teacher and 3th students in one of elementary in Surakarta. This study uses interview, observations, tests, and documentation as techniques in collecting data. Data was validated using triangulation techniques and triangulation sources. Data was analyzed using Miles and Huberman models. The results of the first cycle of action obtained by 53% classical completeness, increased in second cyecle with 81% classical completeness and third cycle with 90%. The study was stopped in third cycle because the research performance indicators had been reached. Based on these result, it can be concluded that there is an increase in reading comprehension skill in 3th grade students after applying the method of Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review (PQ4R) in learning process.
