Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to know whether there are significant effects of Contextual Teaching and Learning Method and vocabulary mastery towards students’ speaking skill, both individually as well as simultaneously. The research was conducted at STKIP Kusuma Negara Jakarta Timur with the total sample 60 students that randomly taken. The method used in the research was a survey. Data vocabulary and speaking were acquired from the tests. The data was analyzed using Anova two ways. The result of the research concluded that there is no significant interaction contextual teaching and learning method and vocabulary mastery to student’s speaking skill. This is proven by the acquisition F0 = 0,161 and Sig = 0,689 > 0,05. Key words: Contextual Teaching and Learning Method, vocabulary mastery, speaking skill   ABSTRAK Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode pembelajaran kontekstual dan penguasaan kosakata terhadap keterampilan berbicara siswa, baik secara individu maupun sebagai secara kelompok. Penelitian ini dilakukan di STKIP Kusuma Negara Jakarta Timur dengan total sampel 60 siswa yang diambil secara acak. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah survei. Data untuk penguasaan kosakata dan keterampilan berbicara diperoleh dari tes. Data di analisis menggunakan Anova Dua Arah. Abstract

Percampuran-Kode dan Alih-Kode terjadi dalam proses komunikasi, khususnya di Indonesia. Bahasa Inggris telah menjadi bahasa yang paling penting dari komunikasi yang lebih luas. Masyarakat penutur bahasa Inggris dan Indonesia terdiri dari orang-orang dwibahasa yang menggunakan bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa kedua. Kompetensi bilingual pembicara membantu pembicara pertama untuk percampuran kode atau beralih ke bahasa lain dengan sangat mudah. Penelitian ini merupakan upaya untuk memahami percampuran-kode dan alih kode dalam novel The Devil Wears Prada oleh Lauren Weisberger. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan jenis percampuran kode dan alih-kode dalam The Devil Wears Prada Novel dengan menggunakan studi sosiolinguistik. Pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif untuk pengumpulan data dan analisis dalam penelitian ini. Data yang diambil dari novel The Devil Wears Prada oleh Lauren Weisberger. Novel ini dibaca secara menyeluruh untuk mendapatkan pemahaman isi secara keseluruhan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis isi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Percampuran-Kode yang terjadi dalam novel ini diklasifikasikan menjadi dua jenis, Inner dan Outer. Sedangkan, Alih-Kode dalam kumpulan data dibagi menjadi tiga kategori atau jenis, yang didefinisikan oleh Poplack (1978/1981): Tag-switch, intersentential-switch, dan intrasentential-switch. Kata kunci: Jenis Percampuran-Kode, Jenis Alih-Kode, Studi Sosiolinguistik

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research is aimed at finding the procedures and method of three bilingual storybooks. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with content analysis. Based on the theory of Newmark about translation method and procedures, it is found that the frequently used procedures are literal, modulation, shift, addition and reduction. The translation on the first book indicated that the translator uses shift modulation, couplet, cultural equivalent, addition. In the second book, the procedures used are literal, addition, modulation, reduction, transference, expansion and couplet. Whilst, in the third book, there couplet, literal, addition, reduction, modulation, cultural equivalent, shift, synonymy, expansion procedures are found. On the other hand, the most dominant procedure used is literal and the translation method used is semantic translation.  The method shows the translation orientation of the translators.Keywords: Translation procedures, translation method, Newmark, bilingual storybooks

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the adjectives in headline news online; to answer questions such as: How many adjectives that can be found in headline news online? What kind of adjectives that are widely used in headline news online? The data in this study were collected from headline news online. Literature review and relevant research has been observed to obtain a description of the data, in this case headline news online. The results showed that the author of the article using different types of adjectives, the adjectives most often used is a descriptive adjective. The main reason of the research on the analysis of adjectives in headline news online is to provide information on headline news online that can be read on the internet, and provide benefits in the study of language. Key words: adjective, headline news online, reading habit

Abstract

This research is aimed at knowing the effect of reading habit on students’ recount writing skill. This research employs a survey method with samples consisting of 42 students randomly drawn from four different classes XI of SMKN in kota Serang. The data are collected by distributing questionnaires and writing tests, are analyzed applying regression and correlation analyses. The research result shows there is a significant effect of reading habit on students’ recount writing skill, as shown by the value of sig 0.017 < 0.05 and tO 2.483. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that reading habit has an effect on student’s recount skill.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to analyze grammatical error made by  the third semester students of unindra PGRI University in their writing. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative method in order to investigate errors in writing made by the three learners.  The researcher used the descriptive analysis technique with the percentage of the data. The researcher limited the research of grammatical errors only for three categories namely omission, misinformation, and addition. The result shows that the total grammatical errors made by the three learners are 39 errors. The highest number of learner error was done in tenses, which is 19 errors or  48,7%, preposition errors 12 errors or 30,8%, and singular/plural noun 8 errors or 20,5%.  The most categories of errors made by the three learners were in omission 14 errors or 35,9% and misinformation categories 14 errors or 35,9%, meanwhile for the rest category, addition category 11 errors or 28,2%. None participant made grammatical error on singular/plural noun of misinformation category. This research is very important because the teachers/lecturers could find out the appropriate strategy to teach and finally, it can improve the learners’ skill of writing.Key words: Error Analysis, Gramatical, Students’ writing.  ABSTRAK Tujuan peneletian ini untuk menganalisa kesalahan tatabahasa  yang dibuat oleh mahasiswa semester tiga universitas Indraprasta PGRI dalam penulisan karangan mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif guna menginvestigasi kesalahan dalam menulis yang dibuat oleh tiga mahasiswa/i. Menyajikan data dalam bentuk presentase. Peneliti membatasi penelitian kesalahan tatabahasa ini hanya tiga kategori, yaitu penghilangan, kesalahan informasi, dan penambahan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa jumlah kesalahan tatabahasa yang dibuat oleh ketiga mahasiswa/i tersebut adalah 39 kesalahan. Kesalahan terbanyak adalah kesalahan dalam tensis, yaitu 19 kesalahan atau 48,7%, kata depan 12 kesalahan atau 30,8%, dan kata benda tunggal/jamak 8 kesalahan atau 20,5%. Sementara itu kesalahan terbanyak dalam hal kategoti ialah penghilangan 14 kesalahan atau 35,9%, kesalahan informasi yaitu 14 kesalahan atau 35,9%, sementara itu kesalahan kategori dalam hal penambahan sebanyak 11 kesalahan atau 28,2%. Tak satupun dari mahasiswa/i membuat kesalahan tatabahasa  kata benda tunggal/jamak untuk kategori kesalahan informasi. Penelitian ini sangat berfaedah karena para guru/dosen dapat menemukan strategi mengajar yang tepat. Pada akhirnya, dapat menambah  keahlian mahasiswa/i dalam penulisan mereka.Key Words: Analisis kesalahan, Tata bahasa, Penulisan mahasiswa/i.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to get empirical data concerning the effects of vocabulary and grammar mastery towards student’s reading comprehension. This research is done by Kolgomorov-Smirnov method, ANOVA Table, Proportional Correct for testing the item difficulties, Biserial Coefficient and Kuder Richarson testing. Samples are taken of the achievable population were 60 students from grade eleven of social and science in section 3 and 4 at SMA Negeri 14 Jakarta. Data collection is conducted by giving test for reading comprehesion, test for vocabulary mastery, and test for grammar. The results show that there are significant effects of vocabulary mastery and grammar mastery altogether towards student’s reading comprehension of X1 grade at state Senior High Schools in West Jakarta. It is proven by the score of Fo = 4,160 dan Sig. = 0,021 < 0, 05. There is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery towards student’s reading comprehension as it is proved by the score of to = 2,662 dan Sig. = 0,001 < 0,05. There is a significant effect of grammar mastery towards student’s reading comprehension as it is proved by the score of to =-0,222 dan Sig. = 0,082 > 0,05 Key words: vocabulary mastery, grammar mastery, reading comprehension

Abstract

Students who study in bilingual class are expected to have the ability of speaking English as well as Indonesian. This study looks at the learning steps in teaching speaking English in bilingual class that claimed their students are able to speak fluently in English within one year. The research data was taken from two bilingual classes at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) Ciputat, South Tangerang City, Banten. The sample of this study were 20 bilingual class students from class 6. The instruments of the research are questionnaire and class observation. Questionnaire is given to the teachers related to their methods in teaching speaking, class observation is done to see the ability of students in speaking. This research is limited only to the teaching steps of English speaking in the bilingual class. The results of this study indicates that by practicing the cluster method carried out by the teacher, the students' speaking skills improved significantly in a short time  Key Words: Bilingual, monoligual, literacy instruction,  RINGKASAN Siswa yang belajar dikelas bilingual ddiharapkan mempunyai kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris sebaik bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini mencari tahu langkah-langkah pembelajaran yang terkait dengan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris di kelas bilingual yang mengklaim siswanya dapat lancer berbicara bahasa Inggris dalam waktu satu tahun. Data-data penelitian  diambil dari dua kelas bilingual di Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) Ciputat Kota Tangerang Selatan Banten. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 20 siswa kelas bilingual yang berasal dari kelas 6. Instrument dari penelitian ini adalah angket dan observasi kelas. Angket diberikan kepada guru untuk melihat metode mengajar yang terkait dengan kemampuan berbicara, observasi kelas dilakukan untuk melihat sejauh mana kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa. Penelitian ini dibatasi hanya pada langkah-langkah pengajaran berbicarabahasa Inggris dikelas bilingual. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa dengan mempraktekan metode kluster yang dilakukan oleh guru, kemampuan berbicara siswa dapat meningkat secara signifikan dalam waktu yang relatif singkat    Kata Kunci: Dwi bahasa, bahasa tunggal, instruksi lisan

Abstract

 In the process of speaking or writing, in fact we do mental activity that will be reflected on the language we perform, known as ‘Language Acquisition’. Most people do not realize that practicing language is a kind of extra-ordinary complicated skill. Using language seems natural for as a baby without being taught by anyone, he will grow along with his own language. From the age of one year until one and a half, the baby can produce the language that is identified as a word. Then the word-utterance becomes two words and so on, until they will finally enlarge as a complex sentence when he is four or five years old. After we have grown up, we speak as if we do not think, by the time we would like to say something, at the same time we produce sounds called language.Key words: mental activity, language acquisition, words

Abstract

The research was designed to investigate the result of a study comparing two English writing classes of  Indraprasta PGRI University student in  the sixth semester of 2015/2016. There were thirty students for each class chosen randomly. The research was conducted from March to July 2016. One class was taught in a traditional way and the other using the flipped method. A test is given at the end of the treatment to detect the level of student understanding. Results of post test are  compared using t-test to gauge whether the method of "Flipped Classroom" has effect on student understanding. This research is a field research with posttest-only control group design method. The theoryused to determine the ability of the students is a statistical theory  by Sudjana, cohesion were analyzed using the theory of Cohesion in English by Halliday and Hassan. Factors affect the ability to write theory by Harmer. The study resulted tcount 2,256 and ttable 1.67 at ? = 0.05 level. So tcount> ttable, so that Ho refused mean significant. It can be concluded also that there is a positive and significant influence.
