Abstract

Vocabulary is one of an important thing in English learning that cannot be delivered by people. For get a good ability in listening, speaking, reading and writing, people should be mastering a vocabulary. That is the reason why vocabulary is crucial in language learning and when the researcher establish that vocabulary mastery of Junior High School are less. Then, teaching vocabulary using flashcard chosen as the theme of this classroom action research. The sample of this research was seven grade of junior high school in Katapang. The researcher presented the result and the analysis of data collected that consist of cycle 1 and cycle 2. Each cycle of the research consist of planning, acting, observing and reflecting activities. In the research, there are some steps before cycle 1 and cycle 2, there are observation and pre-test. The last steps after cycle 1 and cycle 2 are post-test. In the pre-test the researcher used the convensional method. Most of students not active and enthusiasm in the lesson in cycle 1.But, when the researcher used flashcard, the student more active and interest. It could be seen in mean score of the post-test in cycle 1, that is 79.50. After that, in th cycle 2, the mean score was 87.50. It was higher that pre-test. Finally, from the researcher explanation concluded based on the qualitative data that consist of pre-test until post-test, that flashcard could advance the students vocabulary.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how inquiry chart facilitates students in learning critical reading and to describe benefits and challenges found by students during teaching and learning process. Qualitative research data were collected through classroom observation, written test and depth interview. The results revealed that I-Chart learning strategy facilitated students to learn critical reading abilities. Deep interview confirmed that students responded positively toward the I-Chart learning strategies. They were motivated to learn and read more texts. They admitted that the learning strategies might have been the tool for them to enhance deep knowledge of a topic. However, the study found that students remained inactive in delivering arguments in the classroom. Students’ background knowledge had been one of the teaching obstacles found in this study. Time constraints and unavailability of internet access might be the serious problem to encounter in the process of teaching and learning in the classroom. Abstract

Nowadays, the education field has gigantic issues and a problem related to the situation and condition of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Teachers and students have a new challenge to face and should find out a new solution to prevent the learning loss cases. A lot of policies and ideas come up in order to solve the problem to support the educational activities through research and innovating technologies. Teachers and students must survive in this situation to make teaching and learning activity still happen and work well. A lot of innovative digital media and technology is used to face this situation, there are some famous digital applications and Social Networking Sites (SNSs) such as YouTube, Edmodo, Facebook, WhatsApp, Google Classroom, Zoom Cloud Meeting, Google Meet and another application or Social Networking Sites (SNSs). This study uses literature review study method in order to collect the data. All of the data in this study used secondary data and researcher collected from some articles, books and journals. From all of the data there are some digital platform and SNSs that commonly use in Millennial’s environment there are YouTube; Edmodo; Zoom Cloud Meeting; Google Services (Google Meet, Google Classroom, and Google Form); WhatsApp and Instagram. Keywords:  Multi Digital, Millennial Students, Education

Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the essentials needs for language learning. Likewise, in learning English lack of vocabulary is a problem still faced in learning the English language. The purpose of this research is to describe the use of anagram technique in learning vocabulary. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research methods. The subject of this research consisting of first grade students of Vocational High School at SMK Pusdikhub, consisted of thirty-one male students and two female students during the second semester of the academic year 2019/2020. The researcher collected the data from observation and questionnaire. The implementation of this technique follows the main steps of anagram technique there were (1) Finding the spesific material (2) Getting a words that can be formed to produce new word (3) Using the new words for learning vocabulary. Based on the observation and the questionnaire, the researcher found a positive effect in learning vocabulary using the anagram technique. The students became more enthusiastic and enjoyable in learning vocabulary and increase of students’ participation in the class. Additionally, the anagram technique can help to motivate the students to enrich vobabulary. Keywords:  Anagram, Vocabulary

Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore pre-service English teachers’ experience in facing challenges and their coping strategies in managing synchronous virtual classrooms during practicum. This study employed narrative inquiry as its research design with thematic analysis for analyzing the data collected through semi-structured interviews with three pre-service English teachers. The study found that the pre-service English teachers encountered several problems in managing synchronous virtual classrooms, such as 1) students’ negative attitude; 2) insufficient instruction time; 3) lack of relationship or connection between teacher and students; 4) lack of proper feedback from mentor teacher and supervisor. Despite of several challenges mentioned above, the pre-service teachers had some strategies to deal with them, as follows 1) seeking emotional support from peers; 2) actively communicating with expert teachers; 3) solving problems through networking; 4) improving their strategies and skill. In summary, even though the pre-service English teachers faced several challenges, they could manage to overcome such challenges by identifying their needs and available access to improve their classroom situation. Keywords:  Challenges, Coping Strategies, Teaching Practicum, Virtual Classroom Management

Abstract

The aims of this research are : (1) to know the ability of students’ speaking skill in daily learning activity and (2) to increase students’ speaking ability at SMK Kharisma Nusantara through Two Stay Two Stray Technique. The researcher used Classroom Action Research as the method. This research was conducted on the first grade of Kharisma Nusantara Senior High School in the academic year of 2018/2019. This research divided into two cycles and seven meetings. The researcher took three meetings for test and four meetings for treatment. Each cycle covered the step of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Every meeting consisted greeting, main activity, and closing. In the first meeting of cycle 1, the researcher gave the pre-test to all students as the population. Through this pre-test, the researcher knew the students ability. The treatments of first cycle were in second meeting and was done in third meeting. And the last meeting of cycle 1, the students were given the post-test by the researcher. While, the researcher continued the research on cycle 2, which consist three meetings. Two metings for giving the treatment, and the last meting for the post-test. The result shows that learning English speaking can increase with Two Stay Two Stray Technique. Abstract

This research is aimed to find out and analyze the theories used to translate an English novel ‘They Do It with Mirrors’ into Indonesian. The method used here is descriptive qualitative. The procedure of the research were reading both versions of the novel (English and Indonesian), marking the problems, collecting the problems, and analyzing the data focusing on Chesterman’s translation strategies with other supportive theories. This research shows that the most commonly used strategies are cohesion change, unit shift, and transposition. Cohesion change and unit shift can occur from phrase to words or vice versa, but transposition only occurs from word to word. Keywords:  Translation Strategy, Unit Shift, Cohesion Change, Transposition

Abstract

Speaking has important role in real life situation because related with oral communication activity, based on that situation teacher should give the best treatment and set the appropriate condition where the students have a big opportunity to learn what students need which is speaking ability. The Research activity was conducted at Kabupaten Bandung in one of the senior high schools, with 27 students of tenth grade as a subject of the research. This article shows the implementation of animation video in speaking class with the aim to know the student's responses after receiving the treatment. The research employed descriptive qualitative research as a way to show the result of the research. The result also shows the responses of students after receiving the animation video as media of learning activity, through observation sheet result, the table of students’ responses toward animation video and the description from interview activity. Keywords:  Animation Video, Speaking

Abstract

Language is not merely a system of communication. It represents culture and transmits culture from one generation to the next. This study aims to determine  the language pattern as well as the students’ attitude to the shift of Sundanese language to Indonesia language. The methodology  was qualitative. The results of analysis showed that students usually use Sundanese language to communicate with their parents, family, closest friend, and the older people. However, they prefers to use Indonesia language while doing a conversation in education field, especially with the lecture. Regarding attitude, most of the students had positive attitude in maintaining Sundanese language. Regrettably, as most of them do interaction in urban area, they thought that speaking Sundanese seemed out of date. Keywords:  Sundanese Language, Language Shift, Language Maintenance

Abstract

The aim of the research was to improve students' ability in reading text by using metacognitive strategy. The subjects of the study was the first semester of the students of STIE ALWASHLIYAH SIBOLGA 2020.They were 30 students. The researcher provided a textual reading media with metacognitive strategy learning methods to help students know about the reading text so that students more active and understood and then the teaching and learning activities efficiently help the students and also more fun. This type of research is experimental research. The research design used is to use statistical groups. With the value of Ttest 124,103 while Ttable 2.0106, from these values we can conclude 1) Method of Metacognitive Strategy and media in reading text can improve students' ability in reading skills 2) Method of Metacognitive Strategy and media in reading text have an important role in improving the students’ abilityin reading skill. Keywords:        Reading, Metacognitive Strategy,Text
