Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a very important and serious public health problem worldwide and is a disease that causes a global emergency. TB is the 13th leading cause of death globally and the leading cause of death from infectious diseases after the Covid-19 virus, even higher than HIV/AIDS. The WHO found that the number of TB patients worldwide reached 10.6 million in 2022. Indonesia is the second-largest contributor of TB cases (10%) after India (27%). The estimated TB incidence in Indonesia in 2021 was 969,000 or 354 per 100,000 population. Deaths due to TB are estimated at 144,000 or 52 per 100,000 population. The Tapanuli Tengah District Health Office recorded 750 TB cases in 2022. For the Pandan Community Health Center, the number of TB cases in 2022 was 38 with 2 deaths. The occurrence of TB is strongly influenced by host and environmental factors. This study aims to identify the risk factors for TB occurrence in the Working Area of Pandan Community Health Center, Central Tapanuli Regency. The outcomes of this study include publications in nationally accredited journals and learning modules. The results of the study indicate that the risk factors for TB occurrence in the Working Area of Pandan Community Health Center, Central Tapanuli Regency, are gender (p value = 0.438, OR = 1.714), knowledge (p value = 0.034, OR = 3.755), and residential density (p value = 0.747, OR = 1.522), ventilation area (p value= 0.045, OR= 6.000), and type of floor (p value= 1.000, OR= 1.144). Meanwhile, factors that are not considered risk factors for TB occurrence in the Pandan Community Health Center Work Area, Central Tapanuli Regency are age (p value= 0.182, OR= 0.306), nutritional status (p value= 0.144, OR= 0.345), and smoking status (p value= 0.211, OR= 0.412). It is expected that future researchers will examine in more depth the variables that are not associated with TB occurrence in this study. Keywords: tuberculosis, risk factors.

Abstract

Improving the nutritional quality of schoolchildren is a key government priority, and the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) has been implemented in District X to support this effort. Ensuring proper food hygiene and sanitation is essential to safeguard food safety and program sustainability. This descriptive observational study examined the implementation of hygiene and sanitation practices in the MBG Program, including raw material selection, food processing, packaging, distribution, and cleanliness. The study also assessed the knowledge and attitudes of food handlers responsible for preparing 3,300 daily portions for kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and senior high school students. Data were collected through surveys, observations, and interviews with 14 representatives of the MBG kitchen team in District X. Most food handlers demonstrated good knowledge (78.6%) and supportive attitudes (92.9%) toward hygiene and sanitation. However, handwashing practices and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) were inconsistently applied, and the use of closed footwear was low (35.7%). Key challenges included inadequate food storage practices, serving times exceeding standards, high workloads, and limited facilities. Although the MBG Program is functioning relatively well, continuous training, additional staffing, improved facilities, and better scheduling systems are required to strengthen food safety and enhance program quality..

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic health problem that often goes undetected and can lead to serious complications such as stroke, heart failure, and kidney disorders. This study aims to analyze the relationship between educational level, physical activity, and smoking habits with the incidence of hypertension in the working area of Rasau Jaya Public Health Center. A quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach was used, involving 252 respondents who were all included as the study sample. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the majority of respondents were female (82.1%), adults, and had a low educational level (93.7%). A total of 59.5% of respondents had uncontrolled hypertension. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between educational level and hypertension control status (p = 0.034), with respondents who had lower education being more likely to experience uncontrolled hypertension. In contrast, no significant relationship was found between physical activity and hypertension (p = 0.294), nor between smoking habits and hypertension (p = 1.000). In conclusion, educational level influences the ability of individuals to manage their hypertension, while physical activity and smoking habits do not show significant associations in this study population.

Abstract

Type II Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder caused by the body's inability to effectively regulate blood sugar levels due to insulin, which increases blood sugar concentrations (hyperglycemia). Classical music therapy provides a relaxing effect that can lower blood sugar levels. The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of classical music therapy on reducing blood sugar levels in patients with type II diabetic foot ulcers at the Asri Wound Care Center in Medan. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The study was conducted at the Asri Wound Care Center in Medan. A sample of 40 respondents was recruited using a purposive sampling technique. The measuring instrument used was an Easy Touch Glucose, Cholesterol, and Uric Acid (GCU) glucometer The results of the independent t-test showed a p-value of 0.000. Because the p-value was less than 0.05, it can be concluded that classical music therapy has a significant effect on reducing blood sugar levels. This can be proven by the pretest and posttest results, which showed significant improvements. This research is expected to provide useful information for improving the quality of education
