Abstract

Cavities are the most common dental and oral health problems people experience. There are four main factors that interact with each other in caries formation, namely host, substrate/diet, bacteria/microorganisms, saliva, and time. Indirectly, saliva influences the process of caries because saliva always wets the teeth, thus affecting the environment in the oral cavity.

Abstract

Green Grass Jelly Leaf (Cyclea barbata Miers), commonly known in Indonesia as "Daun Daluman" or green cincau, is widely distributed throughout various regions in Indonesia, ranging from traditional markets to modern shopping centers. This plant is recognized for its medicinal potential, particularly in the treatment of gastritis. Its therapeutic effects are attributed to the presence of several bioactive compounds, including alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and flavonoids. Gastritis is a common condition characterized by inflammation of the gastric mucosal lining. It may result from various etiological factors such as Helicobacter pylori infection, prolonged use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), psychological stress, and unhealthy dietary habits. The aim of this study was to evaluate the analgesic activity of green grass jelly leaf extract (Cyclea barbata Miers) in mice induced with acetic acid and to assess the protective effects of the extract on the gastric mucosa. This research employed an experimental laboratory method using an in vivo approach with mice as test animals. The results of the analgesic test indicated that the group treated with the green grass jelly leaf infusion showed a significantly different mean number of writhing responses compared to the negative control group. Specifically, the negative control group exhibited an average of 84 writhes, whereas the positive control group showed 19.6 writhes. These findings suggest that the infusion of Cyclea barbata leaves possesses notable analgesic activity. The number of writhes observed in mice serves as an indicator of pain intensity in response to acetic acid-induced nociception. A lower number of writhes implies reduced pain perception, thereby reflecting a stronger analgesic effect.

Abstract

Active ROM foot exercises aim to improve blood circulation of the lower limbs, ankles, soles of the feet and fingers. Giving active ROM therapy can improve blood circulation in the feet and toes so that there is no tingling and numbness that causes diabetic foot ulcers. The purpose of this study was to prove the effect of active ROM of the foot on the risk of diabetic foot ulcers. This type of research uses quantitative research methods. With pretest-posttest control group design. The population was 117 people. The purposive sampling technique consists of 36 respondents and is divided into 2 groups, namely 18 control groups and 18 treatment groups, which have met the inclusion criteria.  The results of the study in the treatment group showed that there was an effect before and after being given active ROM of the feet.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infectious disease caused by the dengue virus which is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Symptoms of DHF include high fever, headache, bone and muscle pain, and signs of bleeding in the skin or other organs. ). Based on data in 2023, there were 177 cases of DHF and 29 cases occurred in the North Siantar District. This disease can affect anyone, but is more common in children and adolescents. DHF is one of the serious health problems in Indonesia because cases continue to increase every year. The high morbidity and mortality rates due to DHF indicate that handling this disease is important and needs to be done seriously. From the DHF problem

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the major health problems among the elderly, which poses a high risk of cardiovascular complications. Non-pharmacological interventions such as the consumption of butterfly pea tea ( Clitoria ternatea ) are considered to have potential in lowering blood pressure. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of butterfly pea tea in reducing blood pressure among elderly patients with hypertension at the Posyandu Lansia in Mabar. This research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 30 elderly respondents with hypertension participated in the study and were given 200 ml of butterfly pea tea daily for seven consecutive days. Blood pressure measurements were taken before and after the intervention and analyzed using the paired t-test . The results revealed a significant decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The average systolic pressure decreased by 13.0 mmHg, from 152.3 mmHg to 139.3 mmHg, while the diastolic pressure decreased by 8.03 mmHg, from 93.3 mmHg to 85.27 mmHg. Statistical analysis showed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that butterfly pea tea is effective in reducing blood pressure among elderly patients with hypertension.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is a chronic, infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which can cause respiratory problems. Therefore, to prevent the risk of developing TB, regular medication intake is essential for tuberculosis patients. Non-adherence to treatment in pulmonary TB patients is influenced by several factors, one of which is nurses. Community nurses emphasize health promotion and prevention activities as crucial. The environment is one contributing factor to the disease, in this case. Wetlands are considered a source of disease, such as mosquito breeding grounds, leading to the spread of many diseases, such as malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, and other wetland-related diseases. This literature review aims to examine the role of community nurses in improving adherence to anti-tuberculosis medication in patients with tuberculosis in wetlands. Articles were searched using databases including PubMed and Google Scholar, with the following inclusion criteria: full-text articles, published between 2014 and 2025, and with a DOI. The literature search revealed that community nurses play a crucial role in improving adherence to anti-tuberculosis medication management in TB patients. Furthermore, the effectiveness of OAT drug management in TB patients is also supported by nurses as healthcare workers and families as the smallest community unit involved in TB patient care.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life has been proven to significantly reduce infant morbidity and mortality while contributing to the improvement of human resource quality. However, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia, including Medan City, remains below the national target. This study aimed to identify barriers to exclusive breastfeeding among breastfeeding mothers at Darusallam Public Health Center, Medan. A quantitative descriptive survey design was applied, involving 140 mothers with infants aged 0–6 months. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis included univariate, bivariate (chi-square test), and multivariate (multiple logistic regression). The results showed that only 39.29% of respondents practiced exclusive breastfeeding, while 60.71% did not. The main barriers identified were lack of maternal knowledge (35.0%), employment factors (32.1%), and low family support (18.6%). Bivariate analysis revealed significant associations between maternal education, employment status, family support, and knowledge with exclusive breastfeeding practice (p<0.05). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that maternal knowledge was the most dominant factor with OR=8.17 (p=0.001), followed by family support (OR=5.93), education (OR=3.38), while maternal employment was found to be a barrier (OR=0.23). It can be concluded that maternal knowledge is the most dominant barrier to exclusive breastfeeding practice, along with family support and employment. Therefore, public health interventions should focus on improving maternal knowledge through education and lactation counseling, strengthening family support, and implementing mother-friendly workplace policies that provide adequate lactation facilities.
