Abstract

This study aims to explore the different perspectives on the conception of happiness of Indonesians, Indians, and Americans. This study employs an exploratory qualitative approach using thematic data analysis with NVivo 12. Using purposive sampling, individual interviews were conducted with 7 participants aged between 25 to 50 years old. This study discerns divergent themes in happiness among three cultures, with notable similarities between Indonesians and Indians. Both cultures exhibit a pronounced emphasis on social ties and personal development and achievement. Additionally, religious and spiritual practices, positive outlook, and self-expression consistently emerge as significant factors shaping happiness in these cultures. Despite these similarities, each culture showed different contexts. In contrast, Americans showcase distinctive themes, prioritizing nature-connectedness, exploration, and autonomy which includes self-reliance. These findings underscore the pivotal role of cultural context in shaping perspectives on happiness, emphasizing the necessity for culturally tailored interventions to enhance happiness across diverse populations.

Abstract

Concentration difficulties among students pose a significant barrier to effective learning. Observational findings suggest that some students struggle to maintain focus, as evidenced by drowsiness and disengagement during lectures. This study aimed to investigate the impact of listening to Al-Quran murottal on college students' concentration levels. Employing a one-group pretest-posttest design, data was collected using digit span tasks and interviews from three randomly selected participants. Results revealed a notable increase in average concentration scores from 6.3 to 9 post-intervention. Furthermore, interview data indicated that two-thirds of the participants perceived an improvement in their concentration abilities. Based on both quantitative and qualitative findings, this study concludes that listening to Al-Quran murottal can positively influence students' concentration. Further research with a larger sample size and a more complex design is needed to generalize these findings.

Abstract

Long-distance relationships (LDRs) are often viewed as challenging in maintaining the quality of romantic relationships, especially among early adult women who are in the phase of seeking emotional stability and long-term commitment. This study aims to explore relationship satisfaction among early adult women engaged in long-distance relationships. The study employed a qualitative phenomenological approach with purposive sampling, involving four women aged 25–30 years who had been in LDRs for more than one year. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and nonverbal observations, then analyzed using data reduction and thematic coding techniques. The results show that although participants faced limited face-to-face interaction and risks of miscommunication, relationship satisfaction was maintained through effective communication, trust, and commitment. Supporting factors included problem-solving ability, partner attentiveness, and emotional understanding. Communication technology played an important role in maintaining emotional closeness. Participants viewed LDRs as a stage toward more serious, marriage-oriented relationships.

Abstract

Prayer (salat) is a mandatory act of worship for Muslims and plays a key role in shaping daily behavior. This exploratory study aims to examine the relationship between the quality of obligatory prayer, measured through discipline and devotion, and college student behavior. A quantitative survey was conducted with 159 respondents (mean age = 19.7 years), selected using accidental sampling. Data were collected via printed questionnaires. The KMO value for the prayer quality scale was 0.505 (sig. 0.00), with component matrix values ranging from 0.573 to 0.809, and reliability α = 0.665. Results showed significant correlations ( = 0.001–0.018) between the quality of obligatory prayer and various behavioral aspects: self-attitude, relationships with parents, academic behavior, self-control, and social behavior. Parental reminders remain crucial, while higher education level of parents and reduced supervision tend to lower prayer quality. These findings highlight that the quality of obligatory prayer can strengthen self-management and adaptive behavior in college students.

Abstract

This research aims to qualitatively explore the dynamics of marital resilience from psychological and theological perspectives through an in-depth literature review, highlighting couple therapy as a conceptual lens to understand and strengthen the relationship between husband and wife. Through an in-depth literature review analyzed using thematic analysis, this study found that Islamic values such as patience (ṣabr), reliance on God (tawakkul), good communication, and collective responsibility significantly contribute to marital resilience. Couple therapy, especially the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) approaches integrated with Islamic principles, have been shown to be effective in increasing relationship resilience by strengthening emotional and spiritual bonds. These findings confirm that marital resilience does not only depend on individual and relational factors, but also on the integration of deep religious values. Therefore, Islamic-based couple therapy can be a contextual and relevant therapeutic solution.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the subjective experiences of Indonesian students in developing resilience following the Sudan conflict. A qualitative phenomenological design was applied involving three male Indonesian students (aged 24) who were evacuated from Sudan and continued their studies in Indonesia. Data were collected through in depth interviews (face to face and online) and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Findings indicate that resilience emerged through three major processes: acceptance, positive meaning-making, and social support. External support from parents, peers, and the Muhammadiyah organization were essential, while internal factors such as optimism, mental endurance, and spirituality reinforced recovery and adaptation. The study demonstrates that resilience functions as a key psychological mechanism that enables students to rebuild educational aspirations and emotional well-being after traumatic conflict experiences.

Abstract

Academic resilience refers to a student's capacity to endure and adapt effectively to academic stressors. Religiosity is known to enhance academic resilience, although its effects may vary depending on other personal factors such as Personal Growth Initiative (PGI)—the conscious and active effort to develop oneself psychologically. This study aimed to examine whether PGI moderates the relationship between religiosity and academic resilience among university students in Malang City. A quantitative approach was employed using moderation analysis through Hayes’ Process Macro version 5.0. Data were collected from 384 students selected via accidental sampling, using the ARS-30, the Muslim Subject Religiosity Scale, and the PGIS-II instruments. The results indicated that PGI significantly and positively moderated the relationship between religiosity and academic resilience (β = 0.067; p = 0.000). These findings suggest that fostering students’ personal growth initiatives can strengthen the positive influence of religiosity on academic resilience, highlighting the importance of psychological self-development programs in educational settings.
