Abstract

This article discusses the form and function of Dol music in Bengkulu city society. This study uses qualitative methods, data collection is done by observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that Dol music is an important element integrated in the Tabot ritual procession in the city of Bengkulu. 3 Dol music reporters in carrying out Tabot rituals, namely tamatam, swena, and sweri. The role of Dol music in the procession is to express the musical spirit of ritua tabot namely struggle, war and sadness. The existence of Dol music performance both in the context of Tabot rituals, as well as its development outside the Tabot event contest, has important values and functions for the community namely; 1) Functioning as entertainment for the community, 2) The function of emotional disclosure, seen from the emotional overflow of players in the “beruji Dol” 3) functions as a ratification of social institutions, in this case Dol music is an important requirement in the Tabot ceremony, 4) symbolic function, as a symbol manifested through musical aspects expressing sadness or the spirit of warfare, 5) the function of community integration, uniting the community in togetherness and being involved in the wisdom of the Tabot ceremony, and 6) the function of cultural continuity; the existence of Dol music as a form of effort to preserve and strengthen the cultural identity of the people of Bengkulu city.

Abstract

Any change can occur when the rapid development of technology and information, which makes everything, including culture, must be able to co-exist with technology. Seeing the decline in Mesatua culture in Bali, the Mesatua tradition in Balinese society seems almost extinct. This can make a possibility for the loss of traditional culture which has cultural values that are very important for children. However, with the efforts to preserve culture through the use of digital media technology. Mesatua Bali, which was originally known as oral culture, is now becoming known as an image culture that is poured into digital media with interesting picture stories for children. To meet the data requirements used as research material, a descriptive qualitative research method is used to describe the phenomenon of change that occurs based on data collection through observation, documentation and literature study. The Mesatua Balinese culture in its preservation experiences a phenomenon of change in 3 periods, namely; oral period, writing period, and drawing period. In the phenomenon of change, each period has an impact or aspect of phenomena that causes new phenomena, changing phenomena, permanent phenomena, and even a phenomenon that is missing in the development of efforts to preserve Mesatua Bali culture.

Abstract

This work is titled ‘Human Face Expressions in Responding to Life as an Idea on the Creation of Graphic Art Work’. Facial expressions that arise from a person, originated from the interaction of what he sees and what is stored in his mind. In the work that is made, the visual expression of the human face drawn is more focused on Ninik Mamak. Ninik Mamak or better known as the headman is the adat leader (functional adat) in Minangkabau. Ninik Mamak's position is as a holder of sako datuk (datuak) for generations according to maternal lineage in the matrilineal system. The creator chose ninik mamak as an object on the theme raised. The work created is the result of borrowing figures from a number of ninik mamak faces in Minangkabau. Ninik mamak or better known by the name of the ruler is the traditional leader in Minangkabau. Mamin ninik's position as holder of sako datuk (datuak) is hereditary according to maternal lineage in the matrilineal system. Facial expressions born from mamak ninik will later create a response when facing a social conflict that occurs in life. Where culture and customs in Minangkabau began to erode by the development of modern times. This is aimed at introspection and awareness to the public of negative social behavior through mamak ninik's facial expressions and figures in Minangkabau. Cultivation of graphic art created using hardboard cut, hand coloring, and mixed media techniques.

Abstract

This Parameswara monument is a sculpture artwork created to welcome PON 2004 ago. Analysis of this work will use the aesthetic approach, in addition to its monumental form of this work is also closely related to the history of Palembang as the center of the greatest kingdom civilization in the archipelago of the archipelago of Sriwijaya. As one of the great kingdom of Sriwijaya kingdom has a strong influence on the earth archipelago. This is evident until now from the traces he left behind. Likewise with the work of sculpture Parameswara is a work of sculpture symbolic abstraction created by Rita Widagdo. Rita Widagdo is one of the artists living in modren age, this is certainly very influential in the creation of this sculpture artwork. The presence of sculpture art works also provide an interpretation of the development of the times. Parameswara sculpture is not just a beautiful natural manifestation of natural simplification by simply capturing the essence of an object in the amatinya, the object is a creative stimulus so that the resulting work is an abstraction of reality. In the manifestation Rita Widagdo tends to use a concave and convex lines firmly to give the impression of a courage and strength that is the result of interpretation of Parameswara figures. Parameswara statue is a symbol of unifying Malay clumps in the archipelago. The reason, almost all Malays in the archipelago, especially in Malaysia, Singapore, southern Thailand, and Brunei originated from Palembang. They are all descendants of Parameswara and his followers, a commander of Palembang After the fall of Sriwijaya, Iskandar Shah or Parameswara fled north to find a new settlement.

Abstract

This research was conducted to reveal the existence of Gong Buleuh Music in Sungai Penuh City Community, Jambi Province, this type of research is a qualitative research method of interpreting phenomena based on art issues in the Sungai Penuh community. The object of this research is the existence of Gong Buleuh music in the Sungai Penuh community of Jambi Province. Data collected through literature study, observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out based on ethnographic techniques. The findings of this study indicate that the existence of this Gong Buleuh music in the community plays an important role in the Kenduhai Sko ceremony. The uniqueness of an instrumental made of reeds in accordance with the ecological conditions of the Sungai Penuh city. Thus the existence of this Gong Buleuh music does not decline for the younger generation, of course, to explore its existence so that it is preserved by culture, especially Sungai Penuh City. Gong Buleuh music as a traditional art gives meaning to the life of the Kerinci community and its appearance has certain rules that must not be violated. If it is violated, there will be sanctions so that Gong Buleuh's music is a ritual in the Kenduri Sko ceremony. The Kenduri Sko ceremony, which is held once every ten years as a cleanser for heirlooms, is also a gathering place between layers of society. In this event without performing Gong Buleuh music, the ceremony is considered meaningless for the people of Sungai Penuh City. With the music of Gong Buleuh in the Kenduri Sko ceremony, the community can communicate with traditional and community leaders to officiate the opening of the Kenduri Sko.

Abstract

Poster is a general term for a letter attached / placard. Posters are placards that are placed in public places, in the form of announcements or advertisements (Big Indonesian Dictionary, 1986: 679). Posters can be interpreted as a form of visual communication work for a wide audience in the format of writing and images, which are generally in the form of stickers on the wall with a communication range for the masses. This study analyzes the works of Naufan Noordiyanto's posters which include studies of the form of the work, design elements, messages and values contained in his poster works with an art criticism approach. Naufan Noordiyanto's poster works mostly on social and political themes, regarding identity, tolerance, equality, philosophy and things that are contemporary in nature. These works were created as a reflection of his experiences, thoughts, and current conflicts. Artist Naufan Noordiyanto has created many forms with changing forms. Many of the body parts that were deformed from the human figures he created appeared to be abnormal human forms. Of course, there is a message that designer Naufan Noordiyanto wants to convey through his works. As in his work, Marlina, which presents Naufan's self-disclosure of the consequences of a lack of equality for a person, and being isolated is sometimes preferable to being recognized through a set of norms in a system that can injure and negate. In this research, the writer uses mimesis theory, expressive theory, and objective / pragmatic theory.

Abstract

Laker is a typical Palembang handicraft in the form of all products or household utensils made of wood, rattan, bamboo or whatever is painted with black ink and then coated with varnish as an ingredient to beautify it as well as preservative. In this modern era the use of Crafts Laker in palembang is increasingly fading and it's not longer a culture in the City of palembang, especially the younger generation. The lack of promotion carried out on Laker handicrafts has made many of today's young generations not too familiar with Laker crafts, not even a few of them don’t know at all what laker craft is. Moreover, in the current development era, there is a fear of changing cultural heritage forms as a result of the impact of the development and progress of modern technology and other cultural elements that come from outside. To avoid this, visual promotion efforts are needed to the people of Palembang. This promotion was carried out to be able to invite the people of Palembang to cultivate laker crafts in daily life,especially the younger generation. Therefore the Visual Communication Design, Promotion of Laker Crafts is a form of persuasive effort to the people of Palembang, especially to get to know the Laker Crafts so that they can instill a sense of love and pride in Palembang Laker crafts that are known to the Palembang youth, and can invite Palembang people, especially the younger generation cultivate Laker crafts in daily life along with the trends of the times.

Abstract

Artistic arrangement is important in theater performances, as is Dul Muluk theater. "Decoration (scenery) is a background scene (background) where to play the play". Dul Muluk Theater is inseparable from the elements that support the show. The elements are divided into two parts, namely the main elements and supporting elements of the show. The main elements consist of: director, script, performer (actor / actress) and audience, while supporting elements of the show include: dress, property set, musical system, and stage decoration / decoration set. But in discussing this research journal, the writer discusses the supporting elements of his performance. The object of study in the research journal was the traditional arts group Dul Muluk Tunas Harapan, Pemulutan District, which was staged in Palembang. The theory used in this research journal is through Dramaturgi Harymawan's approach as grand theory. This type of research used in this research journal uses descriptive qualitative analysis. Data collection techniques carried out by observation, literature study, interviews, and documentation. The results of the research include; 1) Clothing that is useful to reinforce the character in accordance with the needs of the play, 2) Property as supporting elements of equipment in a theater performance, 3) Music Arrangement; apart from being a accompanist, illustrations, both as opening all the plays, opening scenes, giving effect to the play, and as a closing act also to give color and impression to the scene depicted on stage, 4) Tata Performances; the atmosphere of a place where the human soul can fly freely. A place where art is given breath.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the transformation of the Ronggeng Pasaman performance of the Ganto Saroha group in Duo Koto District, Pasaman Regency. Ronggeng Pasaman is a performance art consisting of pantun, joget, and music, especially in Simpang Tonang, Pasaman, West Sumatra. The form of the Ronggeng Pasaman show is combining bouncing skills while dancing to the accompaniment of violin and drum music. The show starts at night, and ends until early morning. Currently Ronggeng Pasaman has undergone a transformation, people, especially young people, are less interested and begin to leave their regional arts, so the Ronggeng Pasaman show is rarely displayed. There was anxiety from the artists themselves, then initiatives emerged to attract the attention of the people. So it formed the Ronggeng Pasaman Ganto Saroha group, with the addition of keyboard music instruments in the show. Unlike the Pasaman Ronggeng Performance in general, the Ganto Saroha group does not show male singers with female appearance, but rather singers are real women or men. This study uses qualitative methods, is analytic description, observant participants. The results showed that the transformation carried out by the artists, made the Ronggeng Pasaman performance of the Ganto Saroha group well received and in great demand by all people in Pasaman, and was fully supported by the local government.

Abstract

This research is focused on aspects of the Process and Identification of Lkauer Crafts in Palembang, with the objectives being, 1) to support efforts to preserve the art of laker crafts in Palembang, 2) to find out the development of the design of the laker craft, 3) to find out the local cultural values contained in Palembang laker crafts, 4) to add insight and teaching materials to art and design lectures, especially DKV. The method used is descriptive qualitative method, with the method of collecting field observation data, which is to see firsthand the laker handicraft products in the craft center, and at the Bala Putra Dewa Museum in Palembang, the data collection method is also carried out by interviewing techniques and documenting the object research. The results of the data processing are the authors' analysis through the identification of problems encountered in the field. From these results the conclusions drawn by the author are summarized in the form of a draft strategy for the preservation of the laker craft. In addition to preservation efforts, the laker craft can also provide business opportunities and employment opportunities for the people of Palembang city, of course it cannot be separated from the assistance of the Regional Government in the form of training, workshops, capital assistance as well as providing a place for marketing.
