Abstract

Organizational culture plays a strategic role in shaping teachers' work behavior, especially in the context of Islamic educational institutions that prioritize religious values as the foundation for managing education. The challenge of teacher collaboration, which still tends to be individualistic, highlights the importance of strengthening an organizational culture based on Islamic values as the foundation for collective work behavior. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of an organizational culture based on Islamic values in shaping collaborative work behavior among teachers in Islamic educational institutions. The research employs a qualitative approach through a literature study by analyzing relevant scientific literature from 2020–2025 regarding organizational culture, Islamic education management, and teacher collaboration. The study's findings show that Islamic values such as trustworthiness (amanah), brotherhood (ukhuwah), deliberation (musyawarah), and justice serve as the foundation of organizational culture, promoting the creation of a conducive work environment, strengthening interpersonal trust, and fostering teachers' pedagogical and professional collaboration. This study contributes to strengthening the perspective of Islamic education management by emphasizing that an Islamic organizational culture functions not only as a normative guideline but also as an operational framework in developing sustainable collaborative work behavior among teachers.

Abstract

This study examines how the management of new students functions as a preventive system in mitigating bullying behavior in Islamic boarding schools. Until now, research on bullying in pesantren has mostly focused on case handling and counseling approaches, while the role of student management during the initial admission and adaptation phase as a structural prevention instrument is still relatively limited. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at Pondok Pesantren Tanwirul Ulum Umbulsari Semboro Jember through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, with validation through triangulation and member checking. The research results show that bullying mitigation is implemented through three integrated stages of new student management, namely: (1) acceptance and orientation that combines administrative, adaptive, and cultural mechanisms; (2) adaptation guidance and ongoing character development; and (3) internal supervision and regulation through restorative justice-based counseling, involvement of students' guardians, and formal behavior agreements. These three stages form a preventive system that not only addresses cases of bullying but also suppresses its structural and cultural roots. This study contributes to the development of Islamic education management by positioning new student management as a preventive governance framework in bullying mitigation in pesantren.

Abstract

Islamic higher education institutions (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam, PTKI) in Indonesia face mounting pressure to digitalize academic governance in response to Industry 4.0 and the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy, yet studies of the organizational change dimension of this process at regionally based institutions remain scarce. This study analyzes the strategies and organizational change models underlying digital transformation at Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Al Falah Cicalengka, Bandung Regency. A qualitative case study design was used, drawing on direct observation, an in-depth interview with the institution's information technology (IT) team, and institutional and policy documents, analyzed through content analysis combined with the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. Findings show that STAI Al Falah Cicalengka has implemented an integrated academic information system (SIAKAD) since 2019 and formed a dedicated IT team in 2023, reaching approximately 70% lecturer digital readiness; however, infrastructure constraints, uneven digital competence among senior faculty, and incomplete cross-unit system integration persist. Read through the Lewin, Kotter, and ADKAR frameworks, the institution has progressed through the unfreezing and changing stages and is moving toward refreezing, with strong awareness and desire for change but comparatively weaker ability and reinforcement. Islamic values integration remains largely an administrative add-on rather than a maqāṣid al-sharīʿah-based governance principle. The study contributes a values-integrated reading of established change-management models for regionally based Islamic higher education and offers practical recommendations a long-term digitalization roadmap, expanded server and hardware capacity, and structured digital-literacy training for strengthening sustainable organizational transformation.

Abstract

This study explores the modernization of educational management in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) as a strategic approach to sustainable quality improvement. Pesantren, as Indonesia's oldest Islamic educational institutions, face the challenge of integrating deeply rooted traditional values with the demands of contemporary educational management. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected from three purposively selected pesantren in Central and East Java through in-depth interviews with twelve key informants including kyai/heads, daily administrators, ustadz/ustadzah, and senior santri complemented by participatory observation over a three-month period at each site and systematic documentation review. The findings reveal that modernization of pesantren educational management encompasses four strategic dimensions: (1) leadership transformation from charismatic-personal toward spiritual-professional-managerial models; (2) integrative curriculum development that proportionately balances religious knowledge (ilmu naqli) with general knowledge (ilmu aqli); (3) upgrading of facilities and infrastructure to support controlled digital learning; and (4) systematic implementation of data-driven management functions planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling grounded in accountability. The study concludes that successful modernization requires balancing tradition preservation with adaptive innovation, fostering broad stakeholder participation, and investing in continuous human resource development. Theoretically, this research contributes a Tradition, Modernity, CQI Synthesis Model grounded in Kotter's change management theory, transformational leadership theory, and the continuous quality improvement (CQI) framework, demonstrating that pesantren modernization is not the replacement of tradition with secular managerial logic, but rather the strengthening of Islamic authenticity through adaptive institutional innovation.

Abstract

Parental interest in enrolling children in public primary schools represents a critical indicator of institutional attractiveness and reflects community confidence in educational quality. Despite being located in a densely populated urban area of Banda Aceh, SD Negeri 9 has experienced fluctuating and consistently below-capacity enrollment numbers from 2022 to 2025, raising questions about the factors shaping this trend. This study aims to identify and analyze the internal and external supporting and inhibiting factors that influence new student enrollment interest at SD Negeri 9 Banda Aceh. A descriptive qualitative research design was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. Participants were selected using purposive sampling and comprised the school principal, the vice-principal for student affairs, and parents of prospective students. Data were analyzed using SWOT analysis to systematically identify internal strengths and weaknesses alongside external opportunities and threats. The findings reveal that supporting factors include adequate teacher quantity and competency, a conducive physical school environment, progressive adoption of learning technology, and effective information dissemination via social media platforms and parental communication networks. Inhibiting factors include infrastructure deficiencies, the absence of flagship academic programs, limited promotional funding, and intense competition from schools with superior facilities and established reputations. This study contributes empirically grounded insights for school management and education policymakers seeking to strengthen enrollment strategies in public primary schools facing declining applicant trends.

Abstract

Character education in Indonesian Islamic primary schools (madrasah) remains predominantly textual and normative, limiting its effectiveness in cultivating deep moral habituation and critical reflection. This study constructs an empirically grounded character education model integrating three sequential yet cyclical stages internalization, habituation, and reflection of Islamic values, using Nusantara local traditions as the central pedagogical medium. A qualitative multiple case study design was employed across two purposively selected madrasah ibtidaiyah in Central Java and East Java, Indonesia. Data were generated through in-depth semi-structured interviews with principals, Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers, and parents; participant observation of classroom and extra-curricular activities; and curriculum document analysis. Thematic analysis following the Miles Huberman interactive model was applied. Findings reveal three interlocking mechanisms: (1) internalization through cultural contextualization, whereby Islamic values such as taʿawun (mutual cooperation), shuʺra (consultation), and adab (Islamic etiquette) are taught via corresponding local practices of gotong royong, musyawarah, and Javanese tata krama; (2) habituation through structured engagement in barzanji recitation, kenduri communal feasts, and daily greeting rituals aligned with Islamic law; and (3) reflection through guided journaling and Socratic dialogue that transforms routine practice into permanent moral consciousness. The resulting IHR (Internalization Habituation Reflection) model is cyclical, locally grounded, and critically oriented, offering a theoretically coherent and practically replicable alternative to prevailing textual-normative character education approaches in Indonesian madrasah and comparable Islamic educational contexts globally.

Abstract

Youth unemployment remains a structural challenge worldwide, and in Indonesia it is compounded by a persistent mismatch between graduate competencies and industry requirements. Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), as trusted community based educational institutions, are increasingly repositioned as incubators of entrepreneurial competence, yet the managerial dimension of their entrepreneurship curricula planning, implementation, and evaluation remains underexplored. This study examines how entrepreneurship curriculum management is enacted at Pesantren Wirausaha Kalasuba Indonesia (Pusaka Indonesia) to build santri (students') entrepreneurial competence. A qualitative case study design was employed, drawing on semi-structured interviews with the Education Department manager, educators, and santri, supplemented by observation and documentary analysis, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model with source and method triangulation. Findings show that curriculum management is anchored in a 3H philosophy (Heart, Head, Hands) that balances character formation, critical reasoning, and practical skill. Planning is driven by need assessment; implementation combines differentiated, interest-based instruction with project based learning; and evaluation operates through a tiered Key Performance Indicator (KPI) system reinforced by reflective and deliberative practices. Limited professional human resources and uneven student readiness were the principal constraints, addressed through strategic partnerships and the optimization of internal human capital. The study contributes a values-integrated model of entrepreneurship curriculum management that extends conventional planning implementation evaluation frameworks by foregrounding spiritual formation as a core curricular dimension, offering a transferable reference for faith-based institutions designing entrepreneurship programs

Abstract

Higher education curriculum development requires a clear, systematic formulation of graduate profiles and Graduate Learning Outcomes (Capaian Pembelajaran Lulusan/CPL) that responds to societal and labor-market needs. Existing formulations, however, tend to present the stages of developing graduate profiles and CPL as a linear, fragmented sequence, a practice that contributes to persistent misalignment between graduate profiles, learning outcomes, and curriculum structure. This study reconstructs the five-stage formulation process commonly found in the literature into an integrated cyclical framework, termed the Graduate Profile Learning Outcomes Cyclical Integration Model (MIS-PC). Using a qualitative library research design, data were drawn from 24 academic sources comprising peer-reviewed journal articles, scholarly books, and higher-education policy documents on curriculum development and Outcome-Based Education (OBE) selected from an initial pool of 68 sources identified through Google Scholar, Scopus, and Sinta. Data were analyzed descriptively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the conventional linear representation obscures feedback relationships that, in practice, link stakeholder-needs analysis, graduate-profile formulation, CPL development, alignment with higher-education standards, and curriculum integration. Treating these five stages as a closed feedback cycle, mediated by a single integrated mapping instrument, offers a more efficient and accurate pathway for curriculum teams to reach coherent outcomes. The MIS-PC model is proposed as a practical alternative that reduces redundant documentation while strengthening alignment between graduate profiles, CPL, and curriculum structure; as a conceptual, library-based contribution, however, the model has not yet been empirically tested and should be treated as a proposition for further validation rather than a proven intervention

Abstract

Writing instruction in Indonesian elementary education is directed at developing students' language competence, one component of which is descriptive-text writing. Preliminary observation at SD Negeri 6 Muara Dua, North Aceh Regency, indicated that fourth-grade students' descriptive writing achievement remained below the school's Learning Achievement Criteria (Kriteria Ketercapaian Tujuan Pembelajaran/KKTP), with the class mean score at 68.4 and only 37.0% of the 27 students reaching the minimum score of 74. This condition was attributable to limited use of engaging instructional media and predominantly teacher-centred practices. This study aimed to improve the learning outcomes and learning activity of fourth-grade students in descriptive-text writing through interactive Canva-based media. Using a two-cycle Classroom Action Research (CAR) design following the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral model (planning, action, observation, reflection), data were collected through writing tests, structured activity-observation sheets, and documentation, and were analysed using quantitative descriptive statistics (mean scores and mastery-learning percentages) complemented by qualitative analysis (data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing). The findings show that the class mean score increased from 68.4 (pre-action) to 76.8 (Cycle I) and 85.6 (Cycle II), while the percentage of students achieving the KKTP rose from 37.0% to 70.4% and 88.9%, exceeding the pre-set 75% success indicator. Student learning activity likewise increased across the two cycles, as reflected in observation scores for attention, participation, and confidence in presenting written work. These findings indicate that interactive Canva-based media constitutes an effective pedagogical strategy for strengthening both the process and the product of descriptive writing in elementary classrooms.
